Yes you might be right, but then it would be a stall turn towards the camera (public?).

I think he's running 30% Cool Power

Actually, I have seen a full-scale Robby act. The show I saw he did several stall turns and other such maneuvers. But no loops or rolls, sorry.

Looping full size

Hi

I know a few turbine heli's do loop easily but the only piston engine heli I saw effectively loop was a Hughes 300 with Dennis Kenyon flying it, I believe he is the current full size heli aerobatic champ, he has a real understand of the energy in the aircraft and so can get the best out of it.
His loop was started at about 20 feet and ended at about the same height almost over my head!!!
What he actually does is screw the loop slightly so it is really a tight wing over, looks good anyway!

Best regards

Yes it's full size and no, it's not a loop. There is a demonstration team in the US that flys two R22's and one R44 in semi acrobatic flight. They do pedal turns, backward flight and lots of formation stuff! All the helos have smoke systems on them...when they do a thing where the Raven goes between the two R22's... the rotors do amazing stuff to the smoke! If I can find the web site I'll post it later.

I've seen films of the Lynx and the Super Cobra do real axial rolls and personally witnessed an old D model Hughs 500 loop at the Air Races in Tempe AZ. BTW, if you've never seen a closed course Helicopter Race you missed a real specticale! There was one fellow who kept jumping the ( hovering ) start...after the forth time Race control told him to shut off his radio until the race was under way and go when he saw everyone else go...it was funny as He*l! He won BTW' flying a D model 500 that was all black except for the words "Bad Attitude" on each side. He beat several other -500's and a few 206's and even a 600 Notar. REAL COOL! Chris

I remember seeing a photo of an Hughes500 or if it was an MD something that performed a loop.

The coolest manoeuver (is it spelled that way?) seen IRL is some almost negative stall turn with swedish armys hkp9 (anti tank heli) BO105 in northern Sweden (Boden) when being in the military for 9month almost 10years ago.

I was at the Abbotsford Airshow in 1986 and saw a Hughes 500E do a loop right in front of me. Pretty cool it was, I was just a runny nosed kid at the time.

I know a guy personally that has looped an Apache, he said it's addicting, and very dangerous, he also flew in Desert Storm !!

and my next door neighbor was a heli radio commander in Vietnam (in 70 to 71),,, he said their was this new Vietnamese heli pilot, and his family came to see him graduate from flying school, so he told his Father & Mother he was going to go up and do a loop for them, well, some blades broke and the heli fell out of the sky and the guy died right there in front of his Father & Mother and whole family,,, the heli was a H500..

You have to have a fixed rotor system to do a loop, only a few copters physically capable.....R22 not one of them

The particular heli in that photo is registered in Japan where their tail numbers begin with "JA", whereas in the US, they begin with "N".

I watched a US stunt team, Showcopters, perform their aerobatic routine with 3 Robinsons at the 2000 Vertical Challenge in San Carlos CA. Truly amazing to see these guys perform many of the same routines seen in FAI contests, with exception to the rolls and loops. I got a brief chance to talk with the 3 pilots, and they were still very pumped up from the routine. Unfortunately, Showcopters lost one of their pilots less than a month later in a discovery flight with a new student. However, they continued their routines, and may still do so around the country. If you get a chance to see them, be sure to take a video camera. Neat stuff.

To my surprise this triggered an interesting discussion So now I know in which heli I should take my real-size lessons

Heli_gal not so pessimistic:

> Nothing worse than dying in front
> of family for things not worth
> dying for..

There are much worse things to die for. This guy was doing what he loved and he knew the risks. His family was around him, admiring him! I think many gladly would have been in his place while dying !

Watched this B0105 video. Unbelievable, but what is the name of this maneauver? Looks like a half forward flip followed by inverted pirouette and it's not clear whether and/or how he is coming out.
I assume that he's coming down like a brick all the time, or is he hovering during the inverted pirouette?
