My Posts This: Topic Forum | The side effect from all of the spectrum sales that makes me content to wait until Futaba releases their 2.4 products is that most of my friends have already made the switch, so the chance I'll experience a channel conflict continues to drop.
Based on what I'm hearing/reading about the soon to be released Spektrum products, along with the future add-ons (telemetry), I'm guessing that I'm going to eventually purchase the Spektrum module for my 9C, or get the DX9, providing they include the timer-to-throttle functionality along with other mixing features I routinely use. The timer-to-throttle feature is important to me because I fly many other types of aircraft, including sail planes. A timer that starts and run continuously is absolutely useless in that scenario. I can easily fly for an hour and only run the motor two to three minutes.
The timer-to-throttle feature is just as useful on a 3D heli. On the 9C, you set the throttle position where the timer starts and stops. I've set mine where the stick is barely moved to where the motor starts in normal flight mode. During a 5 minute heavy 3D flight, no heli pilot is going to be stopping the timer much more than 5 seconds of the total flight time. I frequently hear fellow pilots cuss at themselves for not remembering to start their timer.
Eventually, with telemetry, the timer feature won't really be needed. At a glance, you'll be able to tell how much juice you've drained from the battery and know when it's time to land. I think it'd be cool if they could have a "voice" feature where the press of a button would have the TX/telemetry "announce" values so that you wouldn't have to take your eyes off of your aircraft! |
