Well we all know how fast this Spektrum ball is rolling, I say we all voice our opinions on what we would like to see. Not saying all or any would be incorporated into the next models to come but why not give it a shot?

For 300 dollars I am not sure I would add it to my 9303.

The next radio I buy would be a 9303 on 2.4, but I can't see the rush to change right now....Maybe I am just stupid?

yes you are if you do buy the module only,

i can see everyones point here,i am not in a hurry to convert my 12Z after all,i think ill wait till they release at least a 9 channel complete system, but i have to say guys the DX7 is already a great system,i have played with one and it rocks, theres really no need for so much functionality and or all the extra channels, all you really need is 6 to 7 channels for a heli and that is if you use all your required equipment i.e. five servos, gyro, governnor and in some cases a inflight mixture contlor servo

the spread spektrum has been proven to be a bullet proof system,i just cant give up my 12Z just yet,but you never know,i just might

The 12Z offer a little more than just a few more channels

like Hootowl said, the 12Z offers more than just more channels Bud,but im not saying you dont need so many channels,im saying that if youre using only the required channels then you dont really need so many channels, but it is always good to have more than you need,

because you never know when you ganna need them, like me for exaple,i've never used more than 6 channels but since im thinking about geting into AP im going to be using more than 6 channels 9 channels to be exact, but the 12Z is nice to have simply because i like the functions, need i say more? grass hopper

So does my 9303 and most other radios. The 7202 is pretty low on the hi-tech radio list.

So does this mean that I can use my 2.4ghz 9303 for surface stuff too? Boats and cars?

After reading through the Horizon responses about the 12Z/14Z only having 8 channels... and the dodging around when confronted about 12Z/14Z possibly being able to output more than 8 ppm channels, I get the feeling Horizon purposely is keeping Futaba beneath JR.

I'm sure the DX9 will be a JR based radio and JR probably be using a Spektrum based system when they go 2.4ghz. This is probably all they can come up with for the Futaba line, which is better than nothing.

Paul,

could you state the maximum EIRP and spectral power density of the Spektrum Transmitters? There is a lot of talk whether the system is legal in Europe or not. All I heard is it transmits more than 10mW which is not legal without FHSS (apart from some countries which have less restrictive rules).

The Futaba system is limited to 8 channels, the module only works with 8 channels. We understand that the Futaba MZ systems are currently capable of operating with more channels in PPM than they were previously. We continually develop new products so stay tuned for any updates.

Sounds good. I'm saying tuned while my wallet is staying put.

I find it SO funny that people get up in arms over Futaba vs JR

I mean we should both be happy we don't have Airtronics garbage

I don't need a 9303 for 9 channels, but I LOVE the programing on the 9303 just like I am sure some poor misguided guy likes the 14z.

I actually had one of the first JR radios years ago...Hated it and was still a Futaba guy. Untill I started flying helis. I REALLY liked the programing on the 9303. As a beginner to heli flight, I needed to have a radio that was easy to understand.

Back to topic:

I doubt I will convert my 9303. I have 4 Helis on the 9303 and am not going to spend 600+ dollars converting them to 2.4 just so I can use my 9303.

The side effect from all of the spectrum sales that makes me content to wait until Futaba releases their 2.4 products is that most of my friends have already made the switch, so the chance I'll experience a channel conflict continues to drop.

Based on what I'm hearing/reading about the soon to be released Spektrum products, along with the future add-ons (telemetry), I'm guessing that I'm going to eventually purchase the Spektrum module for my 9C, or get the DX9, providing they include the timer-to-throttle functionality along with other mixing features I routinely use. The timer-to-throttle feature is important to me because I fly many other types of aircraft, including sail planes. A timer that starts and run continuously is absolutely useless in that scenario. I can easily fly for an hour and only run the motor two to three minutes.

The timer-to-throttle feature is just as useful on a 3D heli. On the 9C, you set the throttle position where the timer starts and stops. I've set mine where the stick is barely moved to where the motor starts in normal flight mode. During a 5 minute heavy 3D flight, no heli pilot is going to be stopping the timer much more than 5 seconds of the total flight time. I frequently hear fellow pilots cuss at themselves for not remembering to start their timer.

Eventually, with telemetry, the timer feature won't really be needed. At a glance, you'll be able to tell how much juice you've drained from the battery and know when it's time to land. I think it'd be cool if they could have a "voice" feature where the press of a button would have the TX/telemetry "announce" values so that you wouldn't have to take your eyes off of your aircraft!

Na.. That is just the tip of the iceberg. Paul is working on a system that announces "Ground Collision Unavoidable!" and jettisons the gyro and receiver prior to the crash. The system then assess the damage and places the repair order at Rick's for the parts. If it's a total loss it prints a ticket for a free drink, dispenses a Vicodin and calls the psychiatrist and makes your appointment.

Oh yea.. It logs onto RR and uploads the "Crash Post" with pics from the on board camera. The last one is always of you standing over the wreckage looking down at it like your pet has just been run over.

Can't wait.
