2000 or 3000 is the capacity of the battery expressed in milliamp-hours. In round terms, a 2000 will run an Eco 8 for about 8 minutes, the 3000 will give you about 12 minutes. (This is for gentle forward flight, 3D flying will give considerably less).

9.6V is the "nominal" voltage of the battery, sort of an average number somewhere between fully charged and empty. Like I said, straight off the charger your battery is going to be somewhere in the 11V to 12V region. Depending on your charger it may actually get a bit higher than that during the charge.

H8 versus newer H8 motor?

can anyone tell me what the advantages are between the original red H8 motor and the newer H8 design?

H 8

I have one of the red H8 motors and it is ok for hovering. It will bareley fly in my Eco 3S 4000 lipo. Some of the guys were talking about this when I researched it but I had to find out for myself. I put the Jeti 30-3 back in and put a 4S lipo on it, big difference. I hear the best motor for 3-D power is the Century 550. I am going to try one soon.
It looks like they just detuned a H-16 motor to make the new H-8.

Red H8

are you able to elborate? did you have the correct gearing to suit whatever revs per volt the red H8 is?

Gearing

I tried a few gear ratios to try to make it better. I have all the pinions from 15 to 24. I sped up the head with a 24 and it was ok until you put a load on it, then it lost headspeed fast. In a full throttle flair it would go from a happy 1900 rpm to 1300 (estimated) and was nearly uncontrollable. I tried a 17 tooth pinion to increase the power of the motor, This was great for FFF but didn't attain foreward speeds I wanted it to. The last pinion I tried was 19 tooth. I got about 1750 rpm (no load) and it flew a little better, but in an emergency there was no reserve power. This caused more than one crash.
They said not to use a 4 cell lipo with the red H-8 so I never tried it. I was just so angry at the heli that I put the Jeti 30-3 back in with a 4 cell lipo 19 tooth pinion, 1950 headspeed(no load).
This setup has power to spare and does great climbouts inverted.
I had about 20 flights on my H-8 and I bought it new. Now it is a door-stop or I might put it in a plane.

BeltFedBrowining,

Why not try the H-8 back in the Eco using your 4S lipo pack. I run mine with a 22T pinion. I get a constant 2000 rpm headspeed with a Kontronic ESC in governor mode. When I land the motor is stone cold and my flightpower 3700 4S packs are bearly warm. Don't know who said not to use a 4S pack on this motor, it loves it. Some have even used 5S packs.

H-8

Are you using the old red H-8? It seems like a really smooth motor. If it will stand 4s then I might try it. Mine just didn't have any grunt with 3s. It made for very relaxing flights when it wouldn't climb or go fast FF. I wondered if there was something wrong with it, it was that gutless. Like you said it never got hot and sounded smooth. ----Thanks for the tip, I have nothing to loose by putting a 4s on it.---

Does anyone know what KV or "revs per volt" the old red H8 is rated at as compared to the newer AXI style one? this info seems hard to find.........

Guys, I think 1500 kV for the Red H-8 motor is a bit high. From memory it was/is closer to 1420 kV.

Red H-8

Judging by the performance I got from mine I would agree with the red H-8 being less than 1500 rpv.

KV

Beltfedbrowning I'm not understanding why yours did not go well......even on heavy 12V older style NiCd/NiMh packs, (with higher internal resistance genrally) James Wang did have the Eco going pretty good at one stage some time back - even had our old timer Eco inverted, can't remember but I don't think this was even on a Brushless motor.
I gather you do understand the KV (revs per volt) does not necessarily mean it is less powerful if its given KV is less than 1500? just means adjusting pinion size as you have already done to get the best out of it.........I am convinced that I will invest in 4 cell LiPos so far, just don't want to fork out for a different motor if the Red H8 will do - particularly in light of not requiring 3D out it............

H-8

I will also put a 4cell lipo on my H-8 before I pass final judgement on it. Sorry for the bad attitude but I messed with it for a long time. I love my Eco. With the aluminum head I get -9,+9 with no binding. Its size is perfect to toss in the car and take to the field. Flies great in windy conditions. It is predictable inverted. Thanks for the input, I wish I had asked you guys earlier when it was still mounted.

Hey I wonder if the copper worms got in my motor? I hear they can trash a motor if they eat through enough wiring.

I used the sport motor that came with my first eco with a 4 cell lipo. It had crazy crazy power. I don't know how long it would have lasted but it didn't seem to get that hot.
