you just dont get it do you!!!!!!!

when you try and make out it is "the kids fault" what would have happened if you had a lockout at the public field and it ploughed into someone?? what would have happened if a whole bunch of runners came onto the field or some kids jumped out of the bush...move on bro dont accept their money and put it down to experience....YOU KNOW HOW DANGEROUS IT IS, THE PUBLIC DOESN'T, GO FLY AT A PROPER FEILD .also how may ice cream trucks do you see flying by remote control through the air at height or even on a field???? lol none so that argument doesn't wash

I guess you are right you would never see kids rushing to a ice cream truck at the park especially on a bike.

kids are taught that its safe to play in the park and its not safe to run across the road

The point is there are dangers everywhere so kids have to be watched by parents. Most people who have kids know what I am talking about.

I fly at a park once in a while, I killed my 90 there the other day(first crash of the year, and its first ever). However I never fly when there are people there. Its a nice park but is mostly used for soccer and softball so its always open during the day. I see no harm in it as long as you are aware of whats going on. I learned to fly there so its special to me now.

I have had the police watch a few times and they always stop and talk. I have also flown with the grounds keepers, they watched and asked teh usual dumb questions"how high?..."

Just be safe.

Jeff

Sad about yer loss. People cannot be trusted anywhere but fellow pilot's that understand the dangers & even some of them are none the smarter.
I have left a field when I saw potiential hazards in the area! People!
I only fly a Trex 450 & use Common Sense cause:
It can Badly hurt Anyone @ Anytime!!

and one more thing "DON'T BE AFRAID!"

I have flown at fields only to find people in the way.
One specifically, I had a family of 5 running through the heli pad area as I was in mid flight. There were barriers and all of the proper "suggested" AMA field safties. Yet these people were dumb enough to just run through there.

I have also flown at the park. I have had a dig chase my heli and a kid in the past. Yet.... There was sooo much room that I could see them enter my peripheral vison and still be over 80 yards away..
Each time I was able to shut down and get to the bird before them.

I do not fly around others at the park and when they do show up I pack up. I usually fly at the field and to make a point...
I have had more close calls there than at the park.
But then again, at the field the Heli pads are treated like red headed step children.

just like in full size aviation we can not call people dumb for walking across flight lines/paths members of the public are not aware of the dangers no matter how obviouse they may seem to us. i work in the aviation industry and we come across all sorts of situatuions , from children running ahead of there parents to board an aircraft to adult who stray from the aircraft when getting off all unaware that other aircraft could be taxing around them but its down to use professionals who know the dangers too keep an eye the dangers. it may be peacefull and not many peps around when you start your flight but to any one seeing a heli fly is intresting and soon can draw a crowd quickly

Reminds me from watching a hockey match! 9 yimes out of ten a boxing match will erupt!
Heli's are the same way! you can be in a completely empty field devoid of anyone, but once you start flying....they come out of the woodwork!! and then demand you leave for their soccer game even though you have exclusive permission to fly there and they don't have any permission for their games...
i usually fly during school hrs. but sometimes the school will show up with a busload, dang it!!

Smile! people will wonder what you're up to!!

i personally would not fly in a park, for the simple reason one is asking for trouble,

The chances are the park is near a housing estate, being that close to property would inevitably open you to a glitch, or if someone was flying one these hummingbirds in their homes on the same frequency then adios,
( i appreciate the chances are 1 in a 100 of that happening)
the other thing is, can it be classed as flying with due care and attention in a park that is open to Jo public and pets ?
the chances if you hit someone you would not be coverd on the BMFA insurance. (uk apply here)

I would want to fly where i know only people who understand Rc or have some kind kind of minimal reagrd for their safety.

But it doesnt help when you get these idiots post on the forum doing inverted h hovering in their front garden or in the street.( i mean by this living in a busy street not on a farm!!)

that is my mind is just stupid and is asking for trouble.

For those interested, google "attractive nuisance doctrine".

ATTRACTIVE NUISANCE - A potentially harmful object so inviting or interesting to a child that it would lure the child onto the property to investigate.

Sure seems like an R/C heli being flown in a park would fall under this definition.

The thing with flying at parks etc is you can NOT predict who or what will walk into your line of flight! I had an experience a while ago where I was flying in a farmers field (with full permission) and near the end of my flight an unrestrained dog and its 10yo owner came into the field unnoticed by me until the dog ran past me going nuts and strait for the heli, which at the time was almost out of fuel, I asked the lad to call the dog away and give him his due he did try, but there was no way it was leaving my machine alone even in a high hover so in the end I had to auto into another field when the fuel ran out. cost to the dog owner £0 and got to see an expensive machine crash in the long grass. cost to me £280 for the parts to fix the vibe. had that have happened in a park i might not have had a safe area to dump it. If people Insist in flying in parks and public places we are going to see more injuries every year and eventually loose the right to own and fly models

I fly at my local park because there are no clubs near by. I think it should be a first come first serve basis. If I'm there first other people should walk around, not in front of me. I am a member of the BMFA and I also take great care with the heli's mechanical condition and my flying.

If someone else is there (dog or kids) I will wait up to 20 minutes.

Personally I think dog owners who let there dogs do what they want should be shot multiple times in the head. Specially the ones that let them chase what they want and just laugh about it.

I had a dog come up from behind and grab my canopy and take it to the other side of the field, this was at 6 in the morning, just changing my lipo for a few seconds... It wouldn't let go, owner done nothing. Finally let it go, my first custom painted canopy now had some holes in it, great... Owner said sorry eventually, nothing else.

IMO a dog is a lot more dangerous than a heli, they have some sharp teeth and if they're not controlled they can cause major damage, yet no one seems to think of them like this.

I have no problem with dogs themselves, it's the owners that cause all the problems. I love pets.

Kids I don't really have a problem with, it's understandable some will love to watch them fly and want to see them, if they're really interested I will let them have a look (lipo disconnected) etc. Just got to watch out for the troublesome ones who like to throw stones... Luckily I haven't seen them again.

As for someone damaging my helis or anything, I would hold them fully responsible. You don't catch me going around damaging peoples cars etc... Now getting money off them would be almost impossible though.

So how come your not holding the dog owner responsible for the damage to your canopy?

You ever try explaining to someone how much something costs when you know they don't believe you at all?

Your post makes no sense. So if your not willing to hold the dog owner responsible because its to hard to explain to them the cost how are you gonna hold anyone else responsible if the damage your heli? that is what I am trying to figure out. How do you plan to hold anyone responsible for any kind of damages?

Well, I'm saying I would hold them responsible. If it was anything more than the canopy I would start thinking about something more further down the line. I made it clear to this lady that I wasn't happy and it took lots of time to paint.

I don't really know what to do, I would just ask them on the spot and if they started getting nasty I would most likely phone up the police (non emergency).

Only if it was enough damage to justify it.

At the end of the day I would just like to have a few lipo packs burnt down the field, that's my hobby and it would be lovely if I could do that without any hassle, it's mostly good but sometimes bad.

Difference between Americans and Britts right there..
most Americans would have demanded payment or flat out called a cop and filed leash law and damage to personal property over 100 dollars charges.
And then dragged the SOB into small claims court for the 100 bucks of damaged property had he not paid up.

I know if a dog grabbed my T600N custom canopy that cost over 100 bucks I'd sure as hell make a stink about it.

Britts are so much more polite lol..

Flying in public parks here is illegal though even with an AMA. Houston and surrounding counties have RC flight fields set aside and expect people to use them.
