I'm new to the electric side of r/c helis.

I just built a new E620SE but no one can really tell me for certain what the best performing set up would be. I find it amazing that a product could get all the way to the consumer and at the same time the dealer not able to tell me how to outfit the machine. Was this product tested?

The electric interest in this hobby has been popular for quite some time now. Have we not learned certain things by now? Isn't there some type of formula we could use to figure out exactly what motor, battery, pinion combo would be required for a machine using x blade length and weighing x?

I don't know...just doesn't seem like it has to be that difficult.

There's plenty of comments under the R50 conversion thread, maybe you should look there? Obviously a converted R50 is going to weigh the same or heavier than the new production model, any combo that works in it will be better than in the conversion. The motor of choice at the moment seems to be the Neu motor or the Z50A from TPPacks.com (you can also get ESCs and batts from there too). I use a Hacker A50-12S that works well too on 10S or 11S. There a alot of choices here(from 6S to 12S) you need to decide how much battery, what kind of battery, and type of battery(Emoli, A123, Sacks) you wish to run before we can narrow motors and ESCs down. The amount of power will vary with each setup generally getting better as you go higher in voltage. My setup has close to the power of an OS50 Hyper(11S-CC85HV-Hacker A50-12S w/9.5 gears).
