I have a carbon rudder servo mount that goes onto the boom and was wondering if that would be a better choice to go with instead of the stock metal mount that bolts onto the rear frame assembly? If you line them both up, the boom servo mount is about 3-4mm higher. What do you guys think? One thing I can think of is the chances of the assembly moving on the boom, but if tightened enough should not pose a problem. As well, if there is a crash, there is the risk of the servo getting damaged because of being on the boom, but it's butted up to the boom insertion point on the frame, so it doesn't seem that would be a problem either. The servo output rod will be shorter and perhaps a bit stiffer, but since this is my first ccpm chopper, I would like your guys' advice.
Thanks again!

I really don't think one is better than the other, but the stock mount may "may" protect the servo a bit better, but then again it just may not too,, I don't use ether, I use one that mount's to the back of the frame,,, all and all it's what you like and why you like it, it's your heli,,

if your worried that your's will twist on the boom, take some black electrical tape and rap it around the boom where the mounting straps go, then mount the mounting straps over the tape, then take a hobby knife and cut off the excess tape so all you have is what's under the straps, that should hold the mount/straps from twisting on the boom..

Actually, I found that when mounting the servo on the boom, the servo response seems faster. Adding on the carbon rod also makes for a more "positive" response to the tail.

I, however, have switched the servo back inside the canopy. As Jim mentioned, it would give added protection for the servo in the event of a crash. A plus would also be keeping the servo clean, especially from the residual oil and fuel.

My opinion is either one will work fine with little difference. However, I prefer to mount mine in the front with a rod thru a bellcrank like this which protects the servo even more, works great, and helps the ballance.

I have mine up front with a bellcrank, something like Steve's.
Only difference is my set up uses the stock servo location.

Just remember -- if the world didn't suck, we would fall off.

Wow! Thanks for the input! I'm going to use the stock location for now, but sure like the idea of putting the servo up front. For $100 plus for a servo, I sure want to keep it as protected as possible!
Thanks again guys!
