Synergy R/C Synergy N9 > HELP - Brand new Synergy tail wags in hover. Cannot figure out...

My good friend's brand new Synergy is driving him nuts. When the brings it up to hover, there is a constant tail wag/hunting. Moves back and forth about 8-10 inches kind of quickly.

We've checked everything and cannot figure it out. All equipment on it is brand new:

OS 91 SZ-H motor
GY611 gyro
9451 servos all around
Vblade mains, tails, and paddles
Futaba 14MZ tx/rx

No governor enabled yet. Motor sounds consistent. He's tried lowering gain on gyro; no effect. He's even replaced the gyro with another one. Moved the tail link closer on the horn; no effect. Switched regulators; no effect.

Any assistance/ideas would greatly be appreciated.

thanks,
bob

Check to make sure the ball link on the tail grip is leading in tail rotation. In the trail position, the tail will have a wag.

...and if all else fails replace the gyro with another 611 or 601. I had a similar problem with another heli - all brand new equipment in a brand new airframe including the 611.

Chased the problem for weeks, changing t/r and drivetrain components until the heli bit by bit had a complete new tail. Eventually replaced the gyro with an 601 we had lying around 'cause there was nothing left to change and the problem went away! The heli flew perfectly the next flight and has ever since.

Of the dozen or so 6*1 series gyros I used over the last little while this has been the first one that's been DOA, so I guess it can happen.

Hope you find your problem soon.

ive spent 6 weeks with this issue
this is what resolved my problem

reamout the tail grip with a 10mm drill bit
take a small amount off the outerside edge of the thrust washer with the smaller diamitter I took off 0.03mm

(just make sure its the thrust washer that goes nearest the tail blades

The problem has been fixed. My friend had to remove some material off of the tail thrust bearings and that cured the wagging. Thanks to Todd for quick response and helpful tips over the phone to my friend.

Ok I had this same exact problem... first take out thrust bearings in tail and messure them with some dial calipers... the outer diameters should be different on the 2 bearing covers (dont know what there called)... on mine they were the same... in this case you need to replace them with the right thrust bearings... TRUST ME TRY THIS BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING... i faught with it forever then just called krause and he knew what it was right away...
