cells and chargers

Not everyone is capable or is willing to tear down a dewalt 36V pack and then be able to assemble the pack properly.

I am now carrying the A123 cells in several sizes and configurations, plus any configuration can be done.

The power is enough to do good hard 3D. I had far more power with my logo 10, 10s A123s and neu 1910 1y than with the raptors 50 os hyper that i tested. however this setup is a bit on the heavy side and the flight times were not good. I had 2300+ rpm on the head.

So what are the flight times with these set-ups? The video itself was less than 2 minutes, was that battery flown to its full capacity?

sorry 2s-6s

BalancePro HD 6s 10A LiPo Charger
Part Number: LIPOCH6S10

FMA’s BalancePro HD 6s Charger is part of a revolutionary new LiPo battery and charge system for R/C aircraft. With a variable charge rate of 500 milliamps to 10 amps, the charger brings BalancePro HD 2s to 6s packs to 90% of capacity in as little as 20 minutes. FMA’s Safe Charge Connector is a key part of the system. It enables the charger to monitor individual cells and independently charge each cell to its optimum level. Charge protection dramatically improves pack performance, pack life and charging safety. All BalancePro HD packs from FMA come standard with the Safe Charge Connector. The BalancePro HD 6s charger may be used to charge any brand 2s to 6s LiPo packs in capacities ranging from 600 mAh to 9600 mAh using either the adapters or pigtails.

The BalancePro HD 6s charger can now charge any Cellpro brand battery pack with the addition of the BalancePro HD-to-Cellpro Adapter

An advanced feature of the BalancePro HD 6s charger is that it can be connected to a Windows based P.C. Using the BalancePro HD 6s Viewer Software, it is possible to see all parameters of charging, including individual cell voltages, charge current, capacity put back into the pack during the charge process, etc. To obtain a free copy of the Viewer Software, click here. Prior to installing the Viewer software, you will be required to first install the Microsoft Dot.net Framework on your computer if it is not already installed. The following is a link to the Dot.Net framework Update on the Microsoft website. Dot.Net must be installed prior to installing the Viewer Software. Click here to install Dot.Net from Microsoft. Also, in order to interconnect the BalancePro HD 6s charger to your P.C. serial port, you will require the FSIM1 P.C. Serial Interface Module or FUIM1 P.C. U.S.B. Interface Module

Hi guys,
I cannot express how excited I am after reading these posts. Ive wanted a 50 size electric for some time now but the cost and long charge times of 6s lipo's turned me away.

So what would you all say is the best a123 setup for the trex 600 with stock align 600xl and align esc? Thanks so much guys I will also need some guidence when I start building these cells. I will order my trex next week sometime.

Don't buy the trex with electrics if you plan on using A123 cells, you need a new power system all together.

5-6 min flight time, 26 minute charge time only limited by my chargers

Trex 600 CF Converted
Rotorworkz HFE frames
CC85 HV
NEU 1912 / 1Y
Hercules BEC

I am running 14S right now at about 2200 RPM coming in at 7.8 lbs and my 600 has loads of power

I will be putting in my new Actro 24-3 when I get the chance but want to get some FDR data first over a period of 10 flights with he NEU.

Thats as heavy as my 50 size nitro but im sure the power to weight is insaine?
If I have to use a a Neu or actro motor that starts cancelling out the pluses of the cheaper A123 cells. Once I change out to the power system to run the A123 cells I could have bought a good 8s lipo not to mention thats withpout the cost of the A123 themselves. Whats the advantages besides charge time?

well it still works out cheaper becasue of the overall cost of the packs.

4xEVO25 5000 6S packs = $1200

NEU $207
or
Actro $289

HFE Frame set
G-10 $89

CC 85 HV
$155

Actro
$289 + $89 + $155 = $533

NEU
$207 + $155 + $89 = $451

5 Dewalt Packs = $500 + or - depending on bids
this is 3 10S1P packs and + 4 5S1P packs which equates to 3 15Spacks for the 600, with 1 5S1P left over

So, $533 + $500 = $1033 or $451 + $500 = $951. You save about $200-$250, you can now fly all day with very limited to no down time, you get 1000+ cycles from these cells, you have a massivley robust electrical system if you would ever want to change in the future, not to mention on of the most powerfull setups avaialble.

If you pick one of these up HY5020E by Mastech you can charge your A123 10S packs in 5 minutes, then you essentially only need 3 dewalt packs to make 2 15S batteries becasue you can charge faster than you drain the batteries flying!

I'm using a 10S A123 setup in my Logo 10 with a Neu 1910/1Y and Schulze 32.55k. No complaints here!

> Whats the advantages besides charge time?

Safety. You can abuse the heck out of the A123 cells while charging and discharging as well as physically and they will not puff, explode, or burn. And, they will allow you to do this for a lot more cycles than a LiPo.

Cost. I'll be putting an e-Vibe in the air with an 18S A123 setup with serious 3D power for $180 per pack. And my flight time should be about the same as I got on my e-Avant with $650+ LiPo packs that I was constantly concerned about harming.

Hard 3D capable A123 setups have been and will continue to be identified. Definitely a viable cell for such use. It would be nice if they would come out with a higher capacity version since weight increase should be less than compared to doubling up cells.

It would also be nice if they would start selling the cells at a reasonable cost. I think the prices from A123 Racing are absolutely ridiculous compared to buying the DeWalt packs. No one has been able to identify any benefit of buying cells from A123 Racing. Unfortunately, the price of the DeWalt packs is slowly creeping up on eBay.

So, A123 pluses: Increased safety, reduced cost, reduced charge time, increased robustness (charge, discharge, and physically). Minus: Weight.

A123 racing and horizon are now teamed up to distribute batteries, also there is news about a 30% more effecient/dense cell from A123 in a smaller size can, coming very soon from what I understand.

I think they are around 3000 mah.

That would be a dream come true!
(I hit the wall with A123 on .90 sized ships, 3000mah cells would be PERFECT!)

Interesting since Horizon is a major distributor for Thunder Power.

Ouch, you're right. Geesh, twice the price as from DeWalt pack. Something is just not right about that.

A123 racing is associated direct with A123 Systems but it looks like A123Racing is trying to match price with Lipos to make more money.

Only thing that comes to mind with Dewalt packs being cheaper is probably a bulk buy rate for massive volume.
