Hi Naomi, I just selected the nighttime airport. Some aircraft seem to work better than others for the lightrope. The Yak plank with the streamers looked awesome. The Aurora didn't look too good, but those were the only two aircraft I tried. I didn't have a lot of time to play with it.

Okay, after playing with it a bit before work this morning.... There does seem to be a difference in the physics, more than I had first thought last night. Heli's seem to hover more accurately than the previous version. The reaction speed seems to have been increased without the sim speed being increased. So far, I really like what I am seeing here.
My only complaint is on the night scenery, there is an orange line all the way around the monitor which seems to flicker according to rotor speed. I'll try new (actually older, since I am running latest) drivers tonight and see if it makes a difference.

Walk on water long enough, eventually you will get your feet wet.

It is under select airport. They are both in the tab marked G3.5. There are two that I have found and they are Grass Flatlands night and Carnival.

When you have one of these two airports selected, go to select model. Also in the tab marked G3.5, you can click on differnt models and see what they look like at night.

ANother pretty neat thing is that is some planes that night fly as well. I picked out an electric one and added wingtip streamers to it and the streamers are flouresant. Pretty cool. Chuck

You can make any 3D airport a night flying airport in two ways. You temporarily change the sun inclination with the keyboard, or to do it permanently you can make a copy of the airport and change the sun position in the airport editor.

If you want to tinker with moving the sun around, use Shift+PGUP to move the sun up, Shift+PGDN to move it down, and Shift+HOME or Shift+END to move it around.

So the aircraft with the glow rope will work in any field with a low or no light level. I thought the aircraft with the glow rope were specific to the new night fields. This is great news. This means you can do night flying in your favorite field then as long as you edit it to a night field. Sweet!

Yes. If the aircraft has glow rope or lights, thos will automatically come on when the sun goes down. If there are no glow rope or lights, the aircraft will just be hard to see.

Well 15 minutes of playing with it so far and I like it!

Couple things I really like....

The physics are just plain awesome on the helicopters now. Good job Travis!

The streamers on the YAK are way too much fun.

The night flying is just plain cool. Haven't tried the sun angle changes yet and I guess I don't have any fields with the "moving" objects (I only have G3 with updates 1 and 2).
DOH! nevermind I found the Carnival field.

Don't like....

The SKYSHIP phyisics are all messed up now in my opinion.
It turns too fast and too quick for a "large" airship.
Even for a small one it seems to turn too fast on the rudder.

Another great job from the guys/gals at Knifedge.

My views after some flying (only heli's , I dont fly planes so I dont have anything to compare to there..)

Heli physics is ALOT better, I mean it, this is much better then before.
Only heli worth flying is the Dominion 3D 90 though.

Custom heli's dont fly good, some dont fly at all (that worked in G3), changes in physics need updated models.
EDIT: According to their forum, even add-ons maybe need tweaking.

- Hovering is much, much, much more like real life then before.
One small issue, heli dont start to move quite as fast as real life after small inputs, however, overall its still very good.

- Gravity is really good, not much to comment (just make sure you have Heli Physics set to Highest)

- Autos are much better, realistic except for two things, hang time (tweakable?), and tipping over, heli glides rather then tip over in grass if you come down sideways.

- General flying, Really nice, Tic Tocs behave as when I fly my logo 14, sloppy and all over the place

A very nice upgrade indeed.

With dialup (56k) = around 18,8-26 hours depending how much it is to download (some say 280, I had to download 320mb, it states that up to 380mb, I guess it depends on what version you are running..)

Just Dl'd it. I liked the avant in ex2 in g3. Now......It needs some work. Real twitchy on center and kind of dead at full rate.

Need to play some more.

I am starting to get used to it. If you guys recall, when .488 came out we were all like "what the hell?". Now we all loved it and got used to it. With a little minor tweaking, we will all be right back on par.

I am really enjoying the night flying for sure!! This may be the straw that puts me over thedge to put together a night rig.

I'm loving the changes in G3.5. They tail physics feel better, and will hold (and blow out) very believably. The carnival night scene is great fun...someone put a lot of effort into that scene for sure, a lot if nice details. Looks great!
