Waitakere Fireworks display this Saturday

Jason/Jonny - I just got a flier in my letterbox about a Guy Fawkes event at the Trust Stadium this weekend.
Are either of you putting on the "RC Helicopter Display" this Sat?

Cheers,

Steve.

Man I have been out of the loop for a bit, just about forgotten all about RR. The weather has been getting better, been doing a bit more flying latley so all good. Got some flying demos to do in Cambridge this weekend if anyone wants so come and have a play they want some scale planes and helis on display and someone to hover around, no 3D just regular scale flying.

Life is like a bath, the longer you stay in it the more wrinkled you get.

Jason,

Somebody is advertised in the blurb as doing the demo and its not you, Jonny or me. Also there is a plank demo as well. Wonder who?

This weekend is Tokoroa jets - I'm off there on Friday with 40 litres of JetA1 to play with. A couple of the jet guys are heading up on Sat with some models to Cambridge for a show and tell.

Hey Steve

Yeah thats me and Adam (ex Airsale) doing the demos. I forgot all about it till the organiser rang me up on tuesday I didn't really know much about the event just got a phone call from Adam a couple months ago asking if I wanted to do a demo flight with him at a fireworks display.

I told the organiser on tuesday that I also have a night setup and he said he may get me to do a nightfly demo aswell, but I think its a bit late in the planning stage for that to happen, the schedule seems pretty well packed

Jason I asked Tom (event organiser) today about having a second heli flying, he didn't sound too keen and after hearing where I'm flying it doesn't sound very practical either. When I talked to him today he said I'd be flying over the RNZAF Helicopter along with the pyrotechnic setup and about a dozen crew
Obviously I told him that that won't be happening as flying over people just isn't safe. He's now changed it so they will all get outta the way behind me during the flight then run back to their positions. Sounds like theres gunna be a fair few obstacles and I will have to fly reasonable high up. I don't envy Adam having to take off and land his big plane, at least I can go straight up

The laser light crew arn't too keen to go straight after the chinese lion dance (around 9pm) in case its not dark enough so sounds like I'll be doing a night fly intermission around 9:10.

Heli Demo didn't happen, on trying to start the engine for a practice flight I hear a metallic noise and the engine stops turning over

On inspection I find that the rear bearings are shattered, A couple of balls had broken up outta the races and found their way to the top of the piston..

On the bright side it happened whilst trying to start and not in the air

Bugger!

The rest of the show was pretty good though. Adam put on a decent display - albeit almost in orbit! Given the conditions and amount of "stuff" strewn all over the stadium it was completely understandable.

Sorry to hear it Jonny. Those bearings aren't that old???? What happened? Anyway, sounds like it was perhaps safer NOT to have a flying set of knives in that stadium!!

On a side note, Nickelback was absolutely AWESOME. Incredible live show - and I have been to a ton of concerts in my life. This would rank in the top 3 easily. Massive Piro show on stage and Chad Kroeger can really sing. Man does he have a loud voice. If you ever get the chance again, go see them!

Hi,
Read about the fire on Whakatane. Glad it wasn't where Johnny were

BTW, I'm helping a mate assembling his 700 and running into afew problem. Intend to set it on a DX7 I found that I run out of channel.
ch1. thro ---- throttle
ch2. aile ---- aile
ch3. elev ---- elev
ch4. rudd ---- rudd
ch5. gear ---- gyro gain
ch6. aux1 ---- ptich
ch7. aux2 ---- ???? governor and gain wire
ch xxx. ---- align 2 in 1
It come with the align rce 6600 governor and it has a gain wire, where do I plug it or do I need a 9ch transmiter? I've managed to set Aerospire governor just a few weeks ago for another mate and I can't recall how I did it, quite possibly/maybe the throttle servo connect straight to the governor.

Next question is, which is a better gyro, Align GP 750 with DS 650 or the JR G770 3D with DS8900G?

Thank you in advance .

haha, found the governor problem, lol, silly me, the throttle servos wire to the governor unit itself.
I'd the align gyro on but will change the JR over if it does make a difference.

Yeah the bearings wern't old at all, either I did a crap job of putting them in properly (likely) or the motor ingested something in the last crash. Ima make a bearing tool this time round and be more carefull.

Siang I would stick with the GP750. Its a great gyro and I would rate it over the 7703D. As far as the tail servo goes I have not used the DS650 before but have read good things about it. I use the DS8900G and love it.
