I agree with you mostly, but when I play the odds I always weigh the stakes. The lost of my eye sight out weighs the odds in all cases.

If it's sunny I have the safety sunglasses on. If it's cloudy I have the yellow tinte glasses on. I use both for work and actually feel naked without them.

I wear maui jims polycarbonate sun glasses. Polycarbonate is the same stuff in safety glasses. So a good set of sun glasses get you style, sun protection and safety all in one.

Model Glasses

Our Model Glasses are not designed ot protect you from injury. If you can't fly well enough to not hit yourself in the face, I'm not sure you should be flying at all!

Our glasses are designed to make it easier to see your aircraft, whilst protecting you from the harmful efects of the sun. They perform both tasks superbly.

Now this must be one of the dumbest response I have ever read. The blades on these helis are moving at over 300 Mph, a mechanical failure or a crash can cause parts to fly very long distances at very high speeds.

You will not see me wearing your Model Glasses if there not Safety Rated.

Rick, I don't know what happens in the USA but I can tell you that most pilots in the Uk don't wear any glasses at all and certainly not safety glasses.

Bearing that in mind, how can this be a dumb response?

Perhaps you think people like Alan Szabo and Curtis Youngblood are dumb for wearing our glasses when they go flying too?

i wear sunglasses but only to keep my eyes from watering and stop the glear of the sun, i wear them not thinking there to save my eyes if something hits me, i know there not going to stop much and even if my heli smashed in to the ground in front of me, i will be on the floor crying so my eyes will be safe any way

I never wear glasses when flying, not even sunglasses asi find most sunglasses just to dark.

I may have to try some of the glasses from model glasses (discount available anyone?)

BUT as a rule i never hover at eye level and never directly tail in.

This is the statement that I was saying is the Dumb Response. It shows a total lack of respect for the pilots who believe in protecting there eye sight.

If people want to risk their eye sight that's fine, I know someone who is loosing his eye sight and another person who is bind in one eye and I don't wish it on anyone. I like this hobby and having quit the hobby due injury that could have easily been prevented with a little common sense is not acceptable to me.

Like I have posted before I do wear eye protection to keep the glare out of my eyes has well as any foreign objects. This is just my personal choice and I don't chastise anyone for not wearing eye-pro. Just curious anyone here NOT wear eye pro when they use a dremel tool?

Hi All,

For those of you who do wear or want to start wearing eye protection:

I found this site with a massive selection -

http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/

My girlfriend is an opthamologist and deals with unfortunate people EVERY SINGLE DAY that could have PREVENTED a lot of pain, discomfort and sometimes even complete loss of sight just by making around a $4.00 investment in some good looking glasses and then actually wearing them.

I say "why not?"...an ounce of prevention is worth...well you know the rest.

When in doubt...auto out

Safety glasses

I should point out that our polycarbonate glasses are in fact safety rated.

I got so carried away answering Rick's criticisms that I forgot to mention it!

Everything you can do to increase the safty of yourself and others can only be considered as being good.
You can fly from a bunker and be even safer...but I don't think it would be as fun.

Safty measured with common sense is very good...so are glasses

.

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.... Dennis

I'm not preaching to anyone, but I agree with 500Driver. An ounce of prevention...

I always wear glasses when I fly, refuel or start my helis. Darker lens when it's sunny and yellow tint when it's cloudy. I put them on when I open up my transmitter case and take out my radio.

I've had two eye operations and was legally blind for a year while my one good eye at the time healed. My eyesight is not something I want to lose or damage more because of piece of flying debris, let alone the discomfort of a nitro splash to the eye.

Like I say, it's an individual choice but your eyesight is something that can easily be damaged or lost.

LOL...even my dogs wear glasses just look in my gallery.

Cheers, Shayne

SAFETY GLASSES?? YOU BET
Have you ever started to spool up on a pavement runway?? I have. Think there arent small pebbles and gravel that can travel at great distance? there are. All I can say is THANK YOU OAKLEY.
Not too mention, Have you ever closed the lid on thin CA and not wiped it off?? I DID ONCE. It splattered in my eye. Enough to send me to the emergency room. Will I be wearing them from now on when either working or flying? ALWAYS!!
Oh, and while I was at the emergency room with tha CA thing my blood pressure went through the roof. They thought I was having a stroke and kept me for 24hrs. All that could have been prevented had I been wearin my glasses.

Just my opinion and 2cents

Glasses would only help if debree like pebbles or small rocks!
In the case of that poor guy with stiches, would be just as effective as Tito Ortiz wearing saftey glasses before fighting Chuck Ladell!

and one more thing "DON'T BE AFRAID!"

My guess would be that good safety glasses would save your eye from a thrown tail blade or paddle. It would probably also reduce the damage done from a thrown main blade. In any case, it's better than nothing at all. Given the HUGE consequences of loosing an eye, and the need for sunglasses while flying anyway, it's a no brainer IMO.
