IMHO, there isn't anything wrong with the way the blade holders are done now. I did a new head and all I did was to polish the bearing ID's, froze the bearings and used a drill press to install them with the appropriate mandrels, aka, old mainshafts.

I just wanted stress that Johan is really commited to taking care of anyone that's having issues with the tight grips. He's very customer oriented and takes customer service very seriously. If I can help anyone with getting the head setup so that you can get the most out of it, please feel free to email, pm or call me. My email address is ciphermonk@gmail.com. Phone number is on my website...

Ok I checked the one grip again, this time using a telescoping gauge and this what I got.

Outer bearing bore-13.00mm
Inner bearing bore-13.01mm

I checked each bore at different positions and my measurements only varied by .01mm. I did notice that the bores, especially the inner bore was not very smooth and had tool chatter which would explain why when some people polished the bores they fit better.

when i measured mine with telescoping gauge it was .003 interference
when i polished it everything was OK, and then even better when I tached it up the first time.

I checked all four grips now using the telescoping gauge.

Grip#1: Outer 13.00 / Inner 13.01
Grip#2: Outer 12.99 / Inner 12.99
Grip#3: Outer 12.98 / Inner 12.97
Grip#4: Outer 12.98 / Inner 12.97

The surface finish on all the inner bores showed tooling marks from the tip of the boring bar cutter (I am assuming that't the tool they used) but some of the smaller bores showed chatter marks which would explain size difference(a chattering tool doesn't cut accurately). I could feel the rough finish when removing the telescoping gauge.

IMHO I think it is more of a surface finish issue, possibly caused by a dull cutter or not enough coolant getting into that area during machining. If they start reaming these bores like Johan mentioned in his email all should be fine. They should be using Go-NoGo gauges to check these bores, if they don't already do so, as part of their QC.

They really are a fantastic piece of engineering in any respect.

My understanding is they are going to QC the grips now more thoroughly. I know what you mean about tool chatter. I don`t know when he is to have his next meeting with Kasama, but you can leave feedback for him here....Thanks for the input ...... www.kaizen.com/forum

If I ordered one now, when should I expect to get it and would it be properly sized for the grip bearings?

Alvin, I assume that any grips that ship, as of now, will be of proper fit. Johan's not letting any more ill fitting grips leave the shop. I received this e-mail, from him today:

I saw the grips today. I did not like what I saw and will personally see that the grips are done properly this weekend. I will have them ready to ship middle of next week. Sorry for the delay but will not accept another imperfect batch.
