I really like the checks, how do you do them?

Tape...lots of it. I was originally going to wait to have my mother-in-law do them on her cutter, but she has been having issues with it and I got tired of looking at the canopy in an incomplete state. So I just started taping - I used 1-inch wide tape- and laid them out, shot some black paint, pulled the tape and retaped the opposite squares, shot some more paint.

Not the easiest way, but it did work. There are some edges where the paint creeped under the tape. Next time its either vinyl or the 3m 471 tape.

This is where the HOK paint really shined. I would spray, wait 5 minutes, then tape. When I was using the auto-air, I wouldn't dare do that. I've had more than one paint job peel with that stuff. However I do love their Sparklescent Electric Green color - does anyone know of a HOK equivalent?

Thanks

KeeWay,

Looks really good! What did you use to do the pinstripe around the windshield? Did you use a striping paint?

HP-CS has an additional addjustment if I am not mistaken, I used one at a trade show, It was good because you could limit the trigger movement. If you have good trigger skills already, its not nessasary, if your getting started, the trigger stop on the HP-CS is good, but could all so become a cruch. Either one would be a fine addition to your work bench

For your regular basecoat colors do you use a Sata minijet also? If so what tip?

(this is going to be fun)

I have been advised by a fellow canopy painter the Kustom CS has the adjustable trigger stop and is not availabe yet. Call Coast Airbrush in Ca, ask what the diff is between HP-c and HP-CS. Not sure.

Sorry for the bad data.

I apologize if I'm hijacking this thread, but one more question (for now) Suggestions on books or dvd's on some of the custom effects? I picked up the House of Kolor catalogue.. The beetle with wings on the back has some different effects.. Marbelizing, Crystalizing ect, but I couldn't find anything on what types of paints or how to's.

BTW.. Great article in the new RC Heli magazine Dave! Look forward to the next one.

Glad you liked it.

Do a google search for Craig Fraser. The book your looking for is called "Cheap Tricks & special F/X" by Craig Fraser. It will get you pointed the right direction.

cheers Dave

Well, here is the final result:

And the best part about this was I was able to find a buyer for it! It was definitely fun, learned a lot along the way and look forward to doing some more of them. I'm already working on one for an EVO 50.
