Hi All,

I am joining the Eolo family and buying a new spirit Pro from RcMarket this morning. The price is the best i've seen from any company and can't wait till the helicopter arrives...I also have a logo 10, but I want the eolo spirit pro as a winter project so I've got something to build when I can't go outside due to the cold, and to help me from getting cabin fever..Can't wait then next summer I will be moving to Knoxville, Tennessee (retirement), and have more flying time and less winter...Again Hi and I am sure I will be needing help during the build. If you could send any necessary upgrade ideas before I build I would like to have this helicopter ready to go and not have to upgrade later.

Thanks and live to fly and fly to live...

The Spirit Pro needs the 3rd bearing upgrade, you may also want to get the tail belt drive upgrade, the 3rd bearing prevents the main gear from being destroyed due to twisting of the main rotor shaft support during anything but mild flying. The stock landing gear struts also suffer from being weak, if you could get the upgraded landing gear supports that would be a plus as well. I have the Spirit Pro with full metal bling upgrades, head, swash, 3rd bearing, and it flies like it's on rails. The plastic head is ok as well as the blade grips but some say they aren't up to hard 3D. I do not fly 3D but I wanted a durable helicopter that would hold up to standard flying. At first I had severe glitching which turned out to be the CC-45 amp ESC, I switched to a Kontronics Jazz and have had virtually zero problems since. I'd suggest getting some good servos for the swash, the tail really needs a digital servo and the GY-401 gyro. I invested heavily in my Spirit Pro but it's been a pure joy to fly now that there are no longer any glitches. I live in Nashville, TN, you will like Knoxville, a nice town, growing very fast! A word of caution, the ball links are very easily damaged so stock up on those and the plastic balls on the swash can be easily broken off if you apply too much force when installing the ball links, if your budget can afford it I'd get the aluminum swash offered by several shops, it's worth the upgrade!

Thanks Gary

I am not a 3D flyer only sport. I am happy to get through the day of flying without. I am talking about my logo 10... I will check into the upgrades you noted, and I am going to use a gy 240 gyro. I am not going to buy the servos, motor, or controller till I have completed the build. I am really looking forward to moving to Knoxville TN and start my retirement. I should be able to get some real good stick time in...can't wait.. Thanks Gary for the information....

I have not flown my Spirit Pro for over a year now and need some parts to get it back in the air. I noticed that my favorite store no longer has parts. Are there and good e-stores in the US that stock parts and upgrades?

I've added photos of the building of the Spirit so you all can see were I am at if you are interested. So far no problems and the build is going perfect. Ben-T-Spindle sorry but I've not need parts yet so I would be no help...

Eolo Build

Wow it looks pretty sparse sitting there on the table. There's not really much to and Eolo as far as parts but they sure do fly well once build and trimmed. I have been flying mine most every Saturday morning at a local school yard. I picked up another 3S 4200 pack and now I can fly two flights with about 10-12 minutes each. I have been wanting to mount a small camera under it and do some aerial photography. I have some ideas about building a mount and I have the camera and even a downlink but just haven't gotten motivated enough to do it. I generally use my Slow Stick for aerial photography since it's so stable and can carry a ton of weight. I look forward to hearing about your first flight, I hope it's a big success!

Hi Heliduce (Gary,)

Are you able to see my Slow Stick next to the logo 10. This was my first airplane about 5 years ago and I like the slow stick so much I decided to build another one. I also have a J Cub by world models that I have not built yet. I am going to start the build when I get to Knoxville..I am building the eolo pro to fly in my cellar during the winter. The helicopter does not have may parts but to make it fly perfect the build must be precise. I've had to repeat some steps to get the part(s) exact, so parts moved freely and no binding...So far so good.. I am very impressed with the eolo, and can't wait to get this helicopter off the ground,. Both of my helicopters are from Germany and very different in size and build. Bottom line you really can't beat their workmanship. I've had about 8 different helicopters over the past 4 years and it looks like the logo and eolo are going to be my last for a long time. My logo flys so great i've not had a crash in the past 8 months and from the build of the eolo I don't see any problems keeping this helicoper for a long time...I will keep you updated as the build goes on...

I also got the liquid paint mask and started the body on my spirit. I am now ready to use masking tape then paint it. The color will be yellow I want the helicopter to match my J cub. Thanks for your help on the painting process. Karl

Canopy Color

I did a lot of research on what color shows up best and found that yellow is probably the best unless you like the neon colors, which I don't like. I hope you went with the 3rd bearing on your Eolo since it will save the main gear from getting stripped. I know you aren't interested in 3D flying but from all I've read the main shaft is so long on top that it can cause the support to flex at the bottom causing the main gear to be stripped. You don't have to buy the expensive 3rd bearing upgrade you can just slightly enlarge the hole in the bottom and install a bearing and it will work just as good.

Go with the bearing upgrade as designed by Robbe, I had the heliup upgrade but it shortens the shaft and changes the swash driver with a unit that changes the phase angle (can be mixed out, tricky).

If anyone wants a heliup 3rd bearing setup PM me as I have two that I have changed to the Robbe setup. You also have to cut down the links, and I have those on them all set up. The robbe setup uses a special sleeve which essentially lengthens the shaft. There are two Robbe setups, I use the one that is in the SE kit. I have not seen how the other setup works out.

I have 3 flying eolos, and spares to last for a long time. I have the sport eolo which I am using Hacker 8L(3S) motor, Hacker 9L(4S) scale one I am building with the Robbe ecureuil fuse kit (really nice), and a lehner motor (3S) that is on my eolo camera ship. My recommendation is the 8L for mild flying, or the 9L for more zip. Whatever you do, don't get the Kontronic twist motor, it burns out very quickly. Whatever you do, definately get the kontronic Jazz controller either the 40-6-18 or for heavier duty the 55-6-18.

Unfortunately the "super struts" are not available any more and are sold out. Jeremy at RCHover had them. Unless between us we can come up with an order for 50 of them, they will not fire up the mold. I would take 3 sets without question. The stock units are fine as long as they don't get whacked.

3Rd Bearing

As Stet has posted there are basically two different 3rd bearing mods. I am using the heliup 3rd bearing that came with the anodized anti-rotation arm. There is also just a bearing, washer and screw, very simple to do, I'll have to get the bearing part number for you on that one. Then there's the Robbe bearing mod which Stet must have, you can probably contact Robbe and get the parts from them.

If you go with heliup setup, I will give it to you with the specially cut down and complete links for the price of shipping.

I will post the SE Robbe P/N's later, if you choose to order them. They are simple parts, a flanged bearing, sleeve and countersunk bolt.

HeliDuce, are you tweaking your phase timing with the heliup setup?

Yes I had to tweak it and it was a pain to get the pitch correct so if there is a better way to do it I'm all for it. I've not had any problems with the 3rd bearing other than the pitch issues that you discussed.

when I set mine up, I just had to shorten the links (had to grind down the rods)

as far as the phase mix, at the time I was using a 9Z which allows you to dial in phase corrections so that was easy

now I fly on 9C and decided that I prefer the standard setup

I flew the heliup setup for a long time with no problems
