For mild to intermediate 3D use? Nothing extreme or hard core yet.

Which exhaust is better suited for the YS91? SB18FH?

Thanks in advance.

SB16FH

I am going to use a SB 16FH with my ST4. I can not give any performance reports as this will be my first 90 size.

Have not used the 9252 but I heard the will work fine for the CCPM servos for 3D. I am running the DS8311 for the CCPM servos, 9252 are a little lower on torque but faster on transit than the 8311. I think they would work good.

Hope this helps take it easy.

I am concerned about the plastic gears in the 9252 being up to the task.

IS Pilot,

See my post under 'synergy n9 main gear ratio'.

I have years of flight time with the MP2 and from the power point of view the 8.27 ratio of the Synergy is not a problem. I don't have any flight time on the SB16 (correction from SB18) but I have seen Todd B's machine in action and it produces good power.

From what I've heard the MP2 produces more power but the SB16 lets the engine run smoother and gives it a wider power band.

The issue I have with the MP2 is the flooding I get when engine oil flows back from the MP2 into the engine when I'm done flying for the day and carry the model back home. If oil gets into the motor its hard to start and I have to pull the glow plug and blow out the oil. My solution for the oil problem is to pull the plug at the end of the day and blow out all the oil. I tilt the machine to get all the oil out of the MP2. Since I've been doing this I have not had to put the plug for excessive oil.

I'd like to hear from others that have used the SB16 on the YS as I'm considering trying the SB16 as well.

I would recommend higher torque servos than the 9252s. I'm going with the 9255's my self. Plastic gears might be an issue but the servo throws are short on the Synergy. Meaning you'll need more torque to have the precision in the control.

Plastic gears are the way to go. Metal gears wear out a lot faster and cause slop in the control system. I would not worry about the gears being plastic. Karbonite gears are the best so far, with something like 100,000 or 200,000 cycles without any wear to the gears. I would, however, worry about the fact that Futaba is supposedly discontinuing the 9252's and you may not be able to get parts for them in the future.

I use 9252s in my XeroG50 and they're great, but in a 90, I would get something a bit more torquey, 9255, 2123, 97458 etc. However I have heard a few top pilots using them in 90 eCCPM machines with great success. The 9252 is discontinued but I managed to find a source for new ones in the UK the other week

The metal gears in the newer servos like the 9255 are supposed to wear out much less than previous generation of metal gears. I have as set of 9255s from last year and have over 250 flights on them. With the power on the servo endplay is not that bad in my opinion. It’s about the same as my 9252s that have 100 flights on the servo gears.

Besides the advantage of using the 9255 is in the servo electronics. Talking with Wayne Mann he believes the servo update rate of the motor to feedback pot has been increased so the servo's ability to hold any position is improved. I would agree with this as I noticed an immediate improvement in tracking and control of the model in the air when switching from the 9252 to the 9255 servos in my Tempest.

I corrected my post about the model Hatori Todd uses. I meant SB16.

with three servo's sharing the load through ccpm the plastic gears should be fine. Thats all Jason was flying when he came to NZ. I use them in my x-spec freya on cyclic and never had any problems.

Spoke to Jason and Bob J at the Masters and they both agreed that the 9252's will be fine for the Synergy.
