Synergy R/C Synergy N9 > Synergy Engine Collets????

I just downloaded the Synergy manual and had a look. I can't believe it has engine collets. Does this thing have to be dial indicated and tapped on like the Fury system?? That's one reason I sold my Fury, just didn't care for the hassle of having to do this everytime the engine came out.

Thanks for the info.

I saw that too.

Seems kinda silly to perpetuate a design that is historically frustrating. However with proper machining tolerances, the collets should work as designed without any beating.

I've had a longstanding belief that tapping the fan true for the MA machines was totally unnecessary. ...in spite of every expert claiming that it was the only way.

While I don't like to see the collets, I think that the design decision will likely proove to be harmless.

Synergy Engine Collets????

Hi guys

I have only ever had Raptors so the engine collets were not an issue. if I just assemble the fan and collets without using a dial , will I get a vibration problem? Do I need to get a dial indicator?

cdrking,
No need to dial indicate the fan hub when installing on the crank shaft. The N9 was designed to be simple to build and maintain without the need for tools such as dial indicators.

I personally really like the collet idea. I've seen many threaded fans that you just can't get the run out dialed out of like you can with collects.

Dial indicating doesn't take THAT long anyway.

We will see how it works out. It would be interesting to see what the runout is from a few machines that are not dial indicated.

Is the fan on the Synergy plastic?

Jeff,
If you read the build from little rotors. He said that when he built up the fan section. There was next to no run out on the unit after built. With out having to tap or anything like that. This is what I can remember. Might look at the build up . www.littlerotors.com/articles/synergy-050706/index.asp

I got my synergy and first thing in the manual is to install the fan hub,and clutch system. The system is properly machined and it does not require beating to get it to dail in. Todd told me to clean the crank shaft, collets and hub with alcohol and it should be fine and it was. This machine was well thought out and went together very easy. I would say it took about 5 hours or so to build it. I will have pics soon.

Yes I did read that BUT that's one kit. Time will tell if the production kits maintain tolerances.

It looks like a great heli and low parts count. I can't for someone to let me fly their heli. Hint, hint Chris.

Ray,

I look forward to some more pics. BTW are you going to make it up to Seattle this year?

Thanks,

Jeff

If mine is one of the first one's to leave ricks. I will do my best to get it built in time for Snohmish. You can fly it all you want Jeff. I going to push Travis to have his built to, but I think he's waiting on other parts too. Batterys, motor, ect ect. i hope i get it in time. Eveny if its in the box. I'm going to bring it and work on it there. You can even help me Jeff. HEHEHEHE !

I am having mine shipped overnight express from Ricks. It will be at my house on Monday. So I see an all nighter in my future or two.

I have three other helis that are down right now. So many long nights before the fun fly.

also don't forget the lower colet is split to ensure proper grip to the crank, this also helps masses in the alignment and the asembely is good, I didn't dial mine in and the fuel is still inside the tank in the hover and no vibes!! just install and forget no messin!!

Hey guys,

When I was assembling my kits, both of them had next to zero runout. Even though this was the case for my kits, I would highly recommend at least checking the runout for piece of mind.

Thanks,

Matt
