hi guys, I'm looking to switch from Thunder Tiger 50 to Hirobo EVO 50. I'm tired of all the engineering flaws, slop on the head, and lack of stabilty. It's really keeping me from progressing. I'm looking for a ship that will aid my learning not hinder it.

Instead of asking all the questions that have already been asked.. thaught I might put a spin on it:

Things I want to avoid with this hirobo is:
#1. Getting extra metal parts and spending more $$ on them to just make the heli work and fly stable. I have spent a fortune on TDG metal head on my raptor and it's still a bit unstable.

#2. Spending lots and lots of time trying to work slop out of the mechanics and still getting "driftey" hovers and unstable flights even in no-wind days.

#3. Worrying about bad engineering flaws such as tail blades flying out, bad bearings.. or weak linkages.

Those are the three top things that prevent my skills from improving as a Thunder Tiger guy. I've been spending more time on the bench vs. learning to fly and progressing. I would like to know if Hirobo will be the ticket.

Upgrades.. I understand that the metal radius block and the stronger main gears are all I need.. thats a pretty strong statement...is this really all I need to progress to full out 3d? Or will I find myself investing in a full metal head again?

Lastly, I'm worried about parts availability. Who's the online store I should go with that has the best service and fastest delivery. MTA or Heliproz or...?

I'm at the point where, Im still not totally sold on hirobo but I know that Thunder Tiger makes cheap stuff and it shows. (not to mention, they are making absolutely no improvements with their new models)

Thanks!

hi

welcome to the switch club..

I made the switch from Raptor to Evo50 and I will NEVER go back.. U will see the quality and flying excellence and see why it is simply a better product.

The parts are easy to get through various online vendors within 2-3 business days...

Welcome to Hirobo!!

I had a TT 30, 50, 70, 90... Now I have none.

I currently have 2x EVO50's and a Freya EVO90, and then there's the Hirobo CH-46 Vertol tandem rotor

Oh yeah, almost forgot the Trex.....

Welcome to Hirobo

Glad you are interested in the Hirobo line. Your choice, the Evo 50, is a very good one. There is a full op kit available, that includes every single upgrade Hirobo makes for the model. However, it's a bit overkill. Things you should consider are the metal radius block as you mentioned, along with the good CNC gears. That's essentially it.

Another feature of Hirobo helis, at least in the states, is the asset in Jeff Green, the MRC product support manager for Hirobo. His service is second to none. Prompt and knowledgeable, he just has no match in the industry, especially Thunder Tiger.

Have fun!

Great choice!

I'm with DGshaffer on this one, I used to have a bunch of TT products, now I only have a few and I havent flown the R50's in over a year...I think they are on their way out soon, Now I have 3 EVO 50's a Xpec and a EVO 90. Hirobo is all I been flying now for quite awhile. as you stated you need to get the upgrade radius block, I would recommend the upgrade washout base as well, the delrin gears, while nice are a nessecity, they just lower the gear noise a tad, I've got one EVO 50 with the delrin and two with the normal black gears and the ones with the black gears do just as good as the delrin but the delrin is just a tad quieter. I would recommend staying with the black gears as they are much cheaper to crash and do the same job..

then as one of the other blokes have said, Jeff Green at MRC's customer service is second to none, Ace has got nothin on him!

Well I am right there with you. I just sold my R50 and R90 and bought an Evo 50. I have not had a chance to fly it yet but I can see the quality is much better. I started with a Tiger 50 and now looking at the Evo I can see that is a cheap nockoff of the Hirobo.

Some arguments are sound and nothing more

I have several EVOs and really like them. I had to Raptors in the early days and I'm glad they're gone.

I've been beating the heck out of my Evo 50, it's completely stock and I'm having a ball with it! So far nothing is showing any signs of wear (I've got 3 gals through it). The radius block has not been an issue and the black gears are as smooth as glass, just a little noisy. I'll be changing the dampers to harder ones when they need to be replaced. Other than that, I'm just burning fuel with a huge grin on my face. Can't go wrong with an Evo!!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you are not progressing, it is not the Raptor's fault. No, it is not in the same class as an Evo, but they do fly fine. No heli will fly hands off in any condition, my Evo is about as well set up as it can be, everything is dial indicated, it's trimmed perfectly, and it still needs to be flown at all times. Yeah, it'll sit in a hover on a calm day for 5-10 seconds before I need to catch it, but it will drift at all times. Seriously, the Raptor isn't holding you back, there are probably only a handful of people in this world who can outfly a Raptor, odds are, you are not one of them, I sure as hell am not.

That said, the Evo is a vastly superior machine. Set up as it comes out of the box, it has a very mellow hover, and if you pull the weights out of the paddles, it'll do any 3d move you want. It's a good idea to put stiffer dampers in if you are doing 3d, but even that is optional. It NEEDS nothing to do any trick you can ask of it. The metal radius block and washout are very nice and lend some security, the dampers are nice, but otehr than that, there's nothing that's really asking for improvement in the package. The gears work fine, they are just loud, I'd wait to upgrade them until they get loud, as they don't do it until they wear some.

Hello Guys, I dont want to beguin a flame war. I learn to fly with a Hirobo Shuttle long time ago and I have a GPH 50SE that I love. Hirobo quality in numero uno And Jeff support is the best!

I will say the EVO is superb heli But IMO Hirobo spare parts are more expensive.

The good thing about the Raptor is that you can find spare parts anywere and the price is better.

What you think?

Isaac

Here's the breakdown (From Rick's)

Raptor 50
Mainshaft - $8.09
Flybar (x2) - $8.99
Spindle - $5.84
Boom - $11.33
Frames - $26.29

Evo 50
MainShaft - $9.59
Flybar (x2) - $9.24
Spindle - $5.19
Boom - $10.13
Frames - $24.20

Straight off of Rick's. the Evo is not more expensive for parts, it's less. $60.54 for the Raptor, $58.35 for the Evo. I randomly picked a large item (the frames) just to show that it isn't just on the small stuff that the Evo is less expensive to own. Higher quality, less expensive, better flying, why in the hell do people buy Raptors!?!?!?

Damit Eurylykos -you stole my thunder. Well stated my friend - you should seriously consider the consulting business. I have 3 Raptors and 2 Evos. The Evo has more of a precision feel to it, but I still love to wring out the rappies. I have been working on my inverted work and will say this: stock heli, out of the box comparison the sceadu has a higher end look and feel to it. I also agree, the rappy isn't holding you back any more than any other heli. Don't give up on the raptor - keep it for a beater, but hone your skills on the sceadu. Either way, welcome to an incredibly fine brand of helicopter and even better customer service. Jeff Green absolutely rules!!!!

The best way to make a small fortune in RC Helis is to start out with a large one. Debt from above!

If I was buying new again, here's what I'd put on it initially:

Delrin main gear and pinnion gear (Neogl on eBay's good for these!)
CX or Infinivation Dampeners.
Metal Radius Block.

After a load of flights, you'll get some play in the head. I'd then get:

Metal Washout mixer and arms. (If not hirobo, then I recon the quickuk Freya ones may fit)
Metal Swashplate. (QuickUK)

I had practically zero slop after upgrading to these after a year of flying.

And if you're really picky:

Metal flybar carrier (Hirobo or QuickUK)
Freya tail hub and blade grips (Hirobo)

You don't really need anything else...
