Robert.
That's right the original Enforcer was sold as the Space Baron and the revised version, the Space Baron S, was call the Enforcer ZR here in North America.

There were major changes to the Baron that included a change in the transmission case and the main shaft.

The easiest way to dotermine if it is a S/ZR version is to look at the base of the mast under the swashplate.... there's a collar there. The ZR has metal balls on the swashplate and a white main gear.

Thanks Ken for the help with the determination. I know now that I do own 2 ZR's... Both have an black collar directly under the swashplate (with 4 hexnuts in it)and they both have an white main gear. Both do have metal balls on the swash, however on one the are metal/silver coloured and on one the are black.

Is it fair to say that if an Kalt Baron does not have the collar under the swashplate and if the maingear is not white (black???) that it's most likely an Enforcer/Space Baron?? (I may have the possibility to buy an extra complete Space Baron, but I wanna make sure that its an ZR!!)

As I understood you right you would not sell an ZR shaft, correct?

What is the difference between both shafts? The ZR shaft is 190 mm long, 10 mm wide with an hole through it from 5 mm. There are 3 "rings" cut in it to fix the hexnuts in the collars and in the top there is an cut (approx 20 mm deep) and 2 holes (3mm). Is there a big difference between both shafts or is it possible to make with some modifications an ZR shaft from an Enforcer shaft??

Thanks, Robert

Robert,

You have the facts right. Kalt made many changes to the Space Baron/Enforcer to address the durability problems and the safety of the heli. They stretched the boom so that longer blades can be used (530mm) to improve performance and to harness the power of the larger engines (e.g., OS 32SXH). I do use 550mm mains with great care as there is interference between the mains and the tail blades.
Very few parts from the Enforcer can be used on the ZR version. They did sell a conversion kit, but it was very expensive ($279 due to the many parts and a new manual). Interchangeable parts include the servo tray, main frames, landing gear, tail rotor, and parts of the head.

The most dangerous part of the Enforcer had to do with the two piece blade grips. The Enforcer would shed main blades. This happened to me 3 times, destroying the heli as a result. fortunately the helis were far away at the time.

The two main shafts are very different. It's not possible to interchange them, even if you attempt of modify them. I do not know of any other main shafts that can be used, although I haven't looked. There are some hollow main shaft made. Hirobo had one. Srry I can't supply you with any. They're scarce. The other possibiliy is to straighten bent ones, if you have the equipment or know a machinist. I straighten the spindles when bent.

Ken,

Thanks for all your info! It was really very helpful. No problem you wouldn't sell an ZR shaft, I can understand!

I still have 2 flyable ZR's and lots and lots of spare parts. I've decided to fly them as long as possible and when I'm not able to bui9ld it up once more, put an add on the forum to sell the rest of the spare parts and buy myself an new type of heli.

With a bit of luck I still can fly Kalt's for a few years

I think the problem parts are the main shaft, the main gear and the mixing levers.

Thanks again and sorry for my bad English, I'm Dutch you know

Hi, Robert,
The supply of parts is almost exhausted. I have attempted to pick up all remaining stock from some of the hobby shops in NA and in Asia. I haven't come across a new ZR kit in years.

I'll look again tonight, if I remember, to determine the number of shafts, gears, and mixing arms I have. I can supply you with a main gear and washout arms.

The demand for parts continues as owners sell their used Enforcers on eBay. Buyers think they get a good deal; however, there's no parts so they search and drive up the prices on used helis.

I'll fly Enforcer for a few more years as I have a major inventory of kits and spares. Unfortunately no one wants to buy everythng I have.

Happy flying,

Ken
