well having now gotten to the stage where i can fly my hummingbird v1-v3 combo pretty ok(tail in) with no panic in the small garden i thought i would get a bit of height...i got upto about 15-20 feet and she was hovering lovely..then it happened.

the mother of all spins, she came down like a spinning top, smashed both the v3 plastic skids, battery came out on landing, canopy off, rotor head popped off, rear boom guard broke too..the bit of wind i was so nicely hovering into sent her spinning sideways into the ground

the damn pinion had come off my new century tail motor, man that was only the 2nd pack thru it,anyone else had this happen?,im not a happy bunny.

now im grounded until i can buy new parts(the v3 skids were brand new 2 packs ago )

is there any other motors that will fit or where can i buy pinions?

im in the uk.

Hi Dave,

Sorry to hear of your trouble after progessing so nicely in your flying.

Depending on how new the motor is and if you still have a receipt, perhaps a call direct to CenturyUK (or your local model shop first where you brought the motor from) will have them pop a spare pinion or motor in the post for you.

To be honest I have only heard this happen a handful of times, I have flown my V3 an aweful lot now and never had this happen on mine. But the pinion only needed to be a bit loose on the motor shaft & it will pop off inflight.

With the skids I found a little trick which does soften them a little making them less brittle, after I broke a couple of sets easily. Basically out of the packet I pop them in a saucepan filled with plain tap water and boil then for 10+ minutes.
This is a common trick with moulded plastic as it relieves the moulding stresses and softens the plastic a little making them more resilient.

hi ian

yes i might try the boil method, something we used to do to brittle plastics on some rc buggies.

i bought the motor from a seller on ebay,it was a new century motor tho,i bought skids, gold label motor and tail motor at the same time, guess i will just have to suck it up to experiance,i will drop a blob of cyno on the end of the next one.

typical nice weather today and im grounded !!

no local shops sell parts so its all mail order

ive found some esky motors on the bay, only about £4 so might get a couple of those.

cheers
