I recently bought a Blade CP wondering if I should unload and get a night ranger with brushless setup?

THey talk 3d on a nightranger but in their videos everytime it flips over it doesn't hold they have to flip it back over, where as cp videos they always hold it upside down.

If your interested in that micro heli design and want 3d capability and reliability of parts and support...don't mess around with walkera type of quality (VNR3D).

Just go for the original design that was copied...

get a Hornet 3DX...

Or spend a bit more, get rid of the tail motor and use a real heading hold gyro on a heli like the E-Sky King. Only a little bigger than the BladeCP but tons more capable and looks pretty mean with a T-Rex canopy on it lol.

Kit with 4 servos, motor, and esc is only $130 and you can pick up one of the cheap Telebee heading lock gyros for around $60. Add in your favorite receiver and transmitter and you've got a heli for under $200. I'm upgrading it to the JGF 400DH outrunner now though.

Night Ranger is no good for serious 3-D stuff in its stock condition. If you are going to spend more - better to buy a T-Rex and be done with it in the beginning....

Hi Penguin, Mine is still waiting for his motor(this week) but from what I heard from other guys, very stable and agile even with some wind, compare the Cp/Cp2...

And no more cheap tail-motor...

Hey Martin,
Could not find a board on this site for the esky. Is it a new bird? I have learned a lot by crusing the different bird boards, like what to buy and what not to buy. I am surprised by the "out of the box" equip on the king, lots cheaper than modding up a CP to that level. I would think the belt driven tail would be nice, eliminate all the hassle of finding the perfect gyro gain/tail proportion ratio, I have tinkered with mine for weeks. It seems to be different with each different batt I run. Let us know how it works out for you.

When the King/Cool is upgraded to brushless they are fully 3d capable unlike the Blade. The king is just a bit larger than the BladeCP and handles wind a lot better with it's 16 ounce weight. The Cool is the size of the T-Rex. I know that the King is much more lively on the 400DH brushless setup than an MX-400. Once the CNC head and CF blades comes out from e-sky which should be in the next 4-6 weeks then things will get crazy as I bet most people will push the head speed above 3000 rpm and it will just be rediculous.

It's a great heli with a miniature raptor head on it. There were problems with tail vibes early on but E-Sky has fixed those and anyone who bought the king/cool can get the new tail system upgrade free of charge (good move by e-sky). Companies like Helidirect are already shipping the new tail system with new king purchases. Mine's the old style system and I've not had any problems with tail vibes though but that's no longer an issue.

Here's some links on the heli:

Here's a very early thread when you could buy it in kit form and build it yourself. It now only comes in ARF. Very good info in this thread though
E-Sky King Build/Review (rcgroups)

E-Sky King Owners Thread (rcgroups)

The King and Cool are not talked about much on runryder and I don't know why. For $110 helis they are the most amazing value out there right now. Some people will put them down because of the geared tail system but I've never stripped a tail gear on my heli and you'll be hard pressed to find someone who has.

One thing to note is it really needs the brushless upgrade to perform. It will fly on the stock power system but you won't be able to do much more than hover and some forward flight on it without heating things up to much. I've been flying mine now for about 2 weeks on the stock power system and it's a great way to get to know the heli but I've now got the Just Go Fly 400DH outrunner on an 8 tooth pinion and it's a different heli all together. Loops/flips/rolls/tic tocs/etc/etc are now well within grasp. Here's my early videos of when I was setting it up.

You could use the Blade tx and electronics, sell the airframe off and upgrade the tx/rx,servos, etc as funds become available.

I'll have to take a look at that, thanks I guess I was suggesting that since he already has a BCP he could use all the electronics from that in a new ARF kit (King or Cool or something), sell the BCP airframe only in the classifieds and then slowly upgade the electronic bits as funds become available until it's a hot 3D machine.

You really can't use the BladeCP electronics in the King. One person has done it but it required modifications to the servos themselves to get them reversed properly and forget about using the 4-in-1 all together. It's possible to use the TX but not without knowning which servos to manually reverse to get the swash moving right. The 4-in-1 can't be used so you will need a new reciever and speed controller. The servos will work but will need 1 more for the tail and you will still want to buy at least the telebee heading hold gyro. I would not go any cheaper than that.

Cool thanks for the response L0stS0ul, makes sense to me, it sounded like a good idea at the time

Your $200 option sounds pretty reasonable. Better heli for less than a Blade CP kit

You could probably find a GY240 in the classifieds with a little patience too.
