Hi all,

Im trying to get the rotor to stop jigglin during hover. But after balancing and tracking the thing still shakes like an old washingmachine, so I yanked out the axle to check for bends, and it was infact bent like a pretsil.

I got a free replacement, but this one also turned out warped like hell.

The manual said it was normal for it to be bent a little because its made from flexible metal, but when I rolled it around on a glass plate, the tip came off the glass almost a millimeter. This cant be right, can it?

Anyway, I feel like trying to make my own axle out of plain steel. Just cut it the same length and jab it a little with my dremel tool to get the notches in. Anyone knows where I can order a shaft the same thickness as a corona?

Ballistic Technology makes a 5mm and 7mm titanium shaft replacement. They're very pricey, but you'll never bend another shaft. Personally, I just ordered stock shafts from LMH site. I figure I'll go through a couple more before I spend $70 for a Titanium shaft upgrade. Probably penny smart and pound foolish....but I think I'll be able to stay in the air longer at this point so hopefully I won't bend another shaft for a while.

In a pinch you can go to the hardware store and pick up some piano wire and cut it up into 6-1/2-inch lengths. Pick the one or two cut pieces that are truest. I forget OD, but maybe 5/32 inch.

The BT 5mm shaft is definitely worth it. Even better to get 7mm for future upgrades and better performance. And you need an Aluminum rotor head for ultimate non-shakes.

Indeed, BT makes very nice parts, but the prices are eyewatering high.

Call me stupid, but I feel I shoulnd pay 40% of my corona chassis price for just a scrawny stick of metal.

Id much rather buy a cheap bar of hardened metal (dont know how you call it in english, but we call is "rust free steel"

, and simply keep replacing it when its bent.

I think ive upgraded enough on my corona already (Chopper-1 titanium tail with decron (plastic + fiberglass mixture) superstrength tail gearbox and boom mount, decron verticle tailfin, carbon horizontal tailfin, JR skids.) Ill just fly her like she is now, but with a different, non crooked shaft, and put the real blingbling money into a proper CP heli lateron.

Perhaps a nice logo 10 or a T-rex.

Computerbob: Piano wire? Isnt that stuff like, wirey?

Not sure what you mean with OD though. Also, im from the land of metric.

The outside diameter (O.D.) is about 3.97mm (5/32inch). I think it was called piano wire, even though it is more like a steel rod. It is regular steel like the stock shaft and come in a length of 91cm (36 inches) long, but you can cut up five pieces for a few Euros and its still cheaper than a mail order to LMH. I went through five or six of these shafts -- trying to straighten after a crash -- and two plastic rotor heads. After that, the purchase of a 5mm titanium shaft and Bret's aluminum head were my best upgrades. (And belt drives too!) I guess you can get a stainless steel shaft, but maybe harder to cut with ordinary hand tools.

I've slowly converted my Corona into a CP (a picture is in my gallery) with all the ballistic upgrades. I've never done RC before, so the crash, replace, and slow upgrade path over these past two years wasn't that expensive in the long run. And as most Corona people say: We get very attached to the heli. I have all the parts needed (except for a few boom mounts and bearing blocks) to built up another stock Corona. Maybe I'll start that project next week on my two-year anniversary of buying a Corona. Hmmm! Interesting thought. All I need do is pick up a Mega 16/15/3 motor and send an old CC-45 speed control back for repairs.

Thanks for the help, Ill go check out the piano wire stuff.

Ill never upgrade the corona as much as that though. For the same money theres tons of completely aluminum purpose made CP 3D helicopters.

You have to admit, BT is selling theire stuff with quite a high profit margin. No way an aluminum motormount costs 30 bucks. Its 3 bucks worth of aluminum, and if you make one by hand, it takes half an hour.

Honestly, I agree, the aluminum motor mounts and boom mounts appear way too expensive.

I was going to say the same thing in the previous post. I use to work with an automation/machine shop and they had tons of equipment that I would love to be able to use right now. I'm always looking for friends who have a CNC machine, or even a good drill press and band saw. ;-)

Ive got 2 CNC machines, but they cant cut deeper then about 2mm. (Theire actually engraving machines)
