You mean that there is some standard saying that 5x10x4 bearings should be rated at 400lbs? And who says the TT bearings just don't adhere to that standard?

Another reason to use a washer is that the bearings will dig into the nuts. The nut steel is just soft steel and the tiny contact points with the bearings make this problem worse.
I used tiny washers, in fact they are flattened lockwashers as I could not get small enough flat washers.

Same issue with the main shaft, there the lockring (instead of locknut) is even of alu.... Again washer needed as you say. I just sanded down the stock lockring so that its thickness including steel washer is the same as it was without washer.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		It's indeed infortunate that both 30V2 and 50V2 TT manuals are so wrong about the sizes of the tail rotor bearings.

The correct size is d5xD10xW4. Type number HMV1050. PV0200 is correct TT package for them.

On page 12 or so of the manual, HMV1050 is mentioned correctly but there the size 3x8x4 is mentioned, which is the size of the old raptor V1 bearings.
The parts list in the back incorrectly mentions 5x10x5 for the bearings in the PV0200 package.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I got a little time to swap some bit's over today to try and narrow down the problem with the modified tail setup

As soon as I changed back to the hub with the thrust brgs installed I had gyro problems again..I've just stripped it all down for a look to see whats happened and found that the races in the thrusts are already heavily pitted.

When this lot was assembled last week I used new brgs and even now I can feel little sign of a problem...they have only had 4-5 flights.. So either the brgs I got are from a dubious source or the loads we are subjecting them to far exceeds there capabilities.

I had the gyro problem from the first flight with this setup and presumed something else was amiss.

looks like it's back to radial brgs for me meantime

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Had my first experience of the exploding tail syndrome last Fri. My R50 was in a hover about 20' away and about 7' high. Heard a noise, saw a flick of something, that something hitting the left side of my face, dropped the collective and the rest is history. Actually the tail blade and grip hit squaring on my left eye. Fortunately the sun glasses I wear are safety rated.

The bearings did not fail, the long set screw in the tail rotor that hold the grips on failed. Maybe I overtightened them, but I don't think I did. Where it broke the metal had a very light grey look and very porous. I would have expected a very shiny, clean break if it had been over stressed.

Damage to the Raptor was pretty light. Kind of bummed about my sunglasses, but $80 vs. losing your sight is a bargain.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I normally don't hover with the tail directly at me either. A pack of kids had run into the field on four wheelers. I wanted to get the Raptor away from them and down. Pulled into a hover to see where they were and wasn't paying much attention to the orientation of the heli.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I feel the SUS tail hub from TT (PV0499 $5.99) solves the long set screw failing problem. But if you over torque that one I can see it as well leading to a failure.

One option is to flip the screw around and cut a slit in the other end and use a flat bladed screw driver to tighten that screw. The problem I see with the allen hole is that it takes away from the integrity of the set screw with the hole going in so deep for the allen socket.

News on the "grape vine" is that TT has already been working on a new set of tail grips with thrust bearings to solve this problem.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		One of my tail grip flew off the hub last weekend. It was on a less than 1 month old Titan using the new tail hub(PV0499) and a set of 95mm TT tail blades. Nothing but the inner races and nut was left on the tail hub.

I made a fuzzy pic to clear things out and I suggest you to use longer setsrews so that nut is tightened to solid part of srew.
3x20 or abit longer will fit in.
This bug conserns all raptors.
Is everyone using freja evo parts on tail ? I am working on it.

Just had a word with Budd at QuickUK, he's waiting for a delayed shipment of thrust bearings so I expect the new tail grips with thrust bearings as well as the thrust bearing upgrade kit should be available in the next couple of weeks.

I agree.

Just spoke to Quick UK and they confirmed that:

1. Lowering the headspeed to 1850 will have a positive effect on the reslilience of the bearings. Headspeeds over 2000 are considered "at risk".

2. They are working on a Thrust bearing upgrade as we speak and it will be available in about two weeks. It will be an upgrade to the current Quick UK tail rotor assembly.

3. The current Quick UK item is stronger than the TT item and will accept the upgraded bearing set when available.

4. Quick UK will do the new bearing set pre-fitted to the tail rotor assembly as well as a seperate bearing only upgrade for customers that already have the current Quick UK tail rotor assembly

5. The price of the new assembly will be about £10 over the current item complete. The price for the bearing upgrade will be the difference between the two assemblies.


I think I'll be placing an order asap and then getting the bearing upgrade for total peace of mind.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		951_Powerstroke..don't get over excited..the problem many of us have also had is the inner/outer tail grip brgs seperating causing the tail blade/grip assy to fly off.

The steel hub won't help in this situation as it is a bearing failure which leaves only the inner races of the brgs on the hub.

Hopefully there will be a solution shortly as mentioned above
