Lithium Ion Glow Driver

Has anybody used this lithium glow driver from RCATS products ?
Let me tell you this is the only way to go.
One charge for the entire flying season and it varies output to match glow plug condition.

Yep each weekend I see guys trying to start there helis and planes and they just sit there and try.
I hand them my RCATS lithium Ion smart glow driver and more times than not they are up and running.
It is amazing to me that when a guy spends thousands of dollars for his plane and heli stuff he lets a $20.00 nicad glow driver stop his fun.
The problem with the nicad driver is at best off a fresh charge he is getting maybe 1.4 volts and the voltage quickly drops to 1.2 volts or less.
Glow plugs are designed to be provided with 1.5 volts to light the glow plug properly for starting in most conditions.
Now anybody can see that 1.2 volts is not going to light anything but the driest of glow plugs. But rarely are our glow plugs dry and this is where the RCATS driver comes in handy as it varies the output current to match the plug condition to give consistent glow.
Also the RCATS driver has a soft start meaning the current to the glow plug is regulated when you first turn the driver on so you don't get a surge of power to the plug thus shortening its useful life.
Give this system a try and you will see what I am raving about.

Yup I played the weak, dead, or missing NiStarter game for more years than I want to remember. If you flood the engine you'll have a hard time starting it because they can't compensate. With the RCATS you can blow on the plug and see more LEDs illuminate as it increases the current to the plug to keep it hot.

I have mine velcroed on top of the battery plate on my Dynatron so I just drop the cord down to the jack to plug it on and crank it. So it doesn't even take up any more space or get misplaced.

You gotta love the power switch too. Its sealed inside the case so you just apply pressure to the case to depress the switch inside momentarily and that starts the on timer. It turns back off by itself.

I can't believe more people don't have these.

Post if you have one!

I've had mine for over a year now. It works well, but is a little pricey. I charged it today to kick-off the new flying season.

Does anyone else make a lithium powered driver? It seems to be like a radio south driver but with a lipo battery.

Yes Duralite has a nice system!

It has the glow driver and volt check all on 1 box!

It reminds me to check my onboard voltage before each flight!

I love mine !

RCATS

I have an RCATs and have been using it for over a year without charging it. So far, it works great.

Two comments on using it:

1) The lettering on it is not 100% glow fuel proof, so I put some plastic tape over it.

2) Don't forget to turn it on. Unlike a regular clip on driver, you have to press a button to start it.

The RCATS is fantastic. Had mine for over a year, and only charged twice.

Recommend the flexible sleeve, to help protect and seal the unit. Heaps of great colours to choose from.

I was really intrested in one of these but it was out of stock when I went to order it. I liked the idea of charging it only once a year. I bought a Radio South driver instead (the little yellow one). I have been flying for a month and a half now on the first charge and that is indeed good enough for me.

It also helped lick the starting difficulties I was having on the YS91s.

So don't pass on the Raido South unit just because it dosen't use LiPos. I think you would be pretty happy with that one and it's about $40 cheaper. Hey... but if you have the cash... Go for it.

My old radio south would last about a week between charging, but I do fly everyday.
But I love my RCATS as I only charge it once a season.

Quick question

From the pictures it looks like the glow conector is perminantly wired into the unit, am I correct ?

These things don't last forever and can you open it to replace the connector ?

I also do pylon racing with Nelson motors. The glow plug is larger and the normal conecter doesn't fit. Don't you guys think that two plugs at the top would be better. like on a power pannel ?

I like the wire coming out much better than I would two plugs on the top, but it would be very easy to splice on a different connector or even to open the case and solder a different one directly on. If I wanted to add a removable connector I would epoxy a Mini-Deans into the case. I hate those banana plugs. I bought another glow plug connector to do exactly that with but the one it includes has been working fine so I never bothered changing it.
