e-Quick Of Japan EP-8/10/16/18 > Question about payload lift of the QJ-8

hi All
I am thinking about getting a QJ-8 as a very small camera ship, do you guys think that it would be capable of lifting a 700 grams (25 Oz.) of extra payload?
And is it possible to use the 440 mm Eolo blades?
Also what motr/esc/batt would you suggest for this use?

Thanks
Lele

That is quite a load!
You might want to try the EP16/18 for better margins

I strapped my 8 to a little stool for range checking, it lifted the stool right up!
I think a bigger ship will give a smoother more steady view as well as handling more payload.

hi Mike

do you know the weight of the stool?
I am planning of lifting about 600 grams, that should be possible since I already lift 450 grams with the t-rex, but I would like to be sure before I buy it.
Thanks

Well I THOUGHT the stool was heavy enough to at least keep the thing from flying away when I added collective! LOL
I don't have the weight of the stool
The 10XL is pretty powerful. I would think you could run slightly longer blades and run them at MAX headspeed and you'd get more payload capacity, especially if all you're going to do is hover with a camera.

Mike

I have ordered the Qj-8, it's now on the way. I have ordered also the
Mega 16/25/4 I plan on using it with a 6s TP and a 10T pinion.
Reg is the Kontronik JAZZ 40-6-18.
Do you think this is a good power choice?

Hi lele, welcome to the Ep-8 club, Im building my new EP-8v2 into a camera ship also, perhaps we can swap notes. I think your motor should be ok but I have no experience with either your ESC or the Mega sorry.

Hi Pigs dont fly

I am happy to hear that I am not the only one having this crazy idea of the QJ camera ship. I will be more than happy to share ideas and comments.
I also have been looking at what others have done with the Eolo and it seems that we have made a good choice going for the QJ-8 since it has larger rotor and, more or less, same weight of the Eolo.
Will keep you posted..

What camera are you thinking of running lele? I have my heart set on a Panasonic mini DV Camcorder probably a GS200 or 400, and probably a Nikon P series for stills, just wish the camera market would stop bringing out new models for 5 mins, every time I decide on one something better comes out.

Lumix Lx1

that's the camera that was under my T-rex.
It' a light weight camera but gives very good quality results.
What is the max weight you are planning to lift with the QJ?
And also do you have any idea of the blades to use? I was thinking at the
Kyosho EP Concept blades, I have heard that they are semis and 405mm long
that should give some more lift than the stock 400mm.

Probably around 600-700g with the camcorder, I flew it properly (in its stock form (no mounts or anything yet)) just 8's and FFF today for the first time, Im really pleased with the performance, very powerful and amazing climbout, as soon as I can get shot of my glitches I'm going to load it up with 700g and see what it goes like.

Glitches....my Schulze's 835's glitch counter was flashing so I have some work to do yet.

You probably wont even notice the Lumix on there, my emoli packs are well over 200g heavier than lipos and it climbs like a thing on a spring.

thanks for the info on performance

Well the 220 grams of the Lumix will be added of about other 300/350 grams of the camera mount.
Congratulations for your first flights, I am happy to hear that it's a good machine!
But I have been reading of many people having glitches problems, I wonder if this is a problem related to the aluminium frames? are you running a PCM receiver?
And do you have any idea if a R149DP receiver would fit between the frames? Sorry, last question, I never found any info about the length of the QJ-8, could you tell me, more or less, how long it is, without canopy and with folded blades?
thanks
Lele

Hi lele

I think the glitching problems are mainly comming from peoples UBEC's and aerial placement/type.

I will run the tape measure over my EP-8 tonight when I get home from work and post later.
