When do i stop tinkering and rebuilding from crashes... and when do i just sell the whole heap on ebay and get a new ARF X3D so i can fly?

Today after endless hours of tinkering with my H2 Tail i had a flying session with almost no wag anymore. it was flying really sweet actually for 5 minutes... during the 3rd quarter of a backwards loop the tail gave up and she went in yet again from about 15ft up.

another 30€ down the drain for 5 minutes of flying (not counting the blades which i already have a spare set).

Honestly if i wouldn`t have such a big stock of spares i would have already sold it.. but i guess i wont make enough to come out of it without a big loss.. and i still like the looks of that darn H2 damn it.

maybe i'll try and land a cheap deal on a new Hornet 2 and just write this one of as bad experience and start from a clean sheet with a completely new kit.

maybe i'll get a Maxir instead.

UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

If you can pick a kit up for $109 then it looks an attractive option.
The X3D can still be frustrating, will fly fine stock once all the vibes where ironed out and fly's better with KoK blades.

Last crash was due to a weakened conical gear slipping on the tail drive shaft. Whilst inverted with full neg pitch, torque'd the tail round causing orientation loss.
Exiting very fast piro's too quickly seems to put too much stress on this component when the tail pitch can go to extremes.

Hornet X 3D Twister(Axi 2208/20, Tsunami) 27T/180T ~2900 rpm, MS-116 ESC, MS-044 gyro, HS-50 tail, 3x Futaba 3108s, KOK Extréme white blades, 3xTP1320 prolites ~15mins (cruising), AUW=375g. Futaba7C

What about these?
HM022A-026 (Metal cogs) $10 (or here)

They don't look like they use grub screws but not sure?

Sorry to drag off topic but what are the differences between a Walkera Dragonfly 22A, 22C and a H2?

Found some more cogs? D2219 Metal Gear Set $9.5

about 100$ i think

sorry i have only seen pics on the web of both of the walkera helis. and read storries about their bad quality... but never had one in hand myselfe.

I`ve read so many reports on how bad quality is of nearly every heli that i tend not to believe 100% of what i read tho.

I have to say that my X3D is a really great flyer at the moment and wish I could video some flying worth showing. It has taken a lot to setup spot on and the slightest mishap will be a headache for me (hey, that's micro's :rolleyes. Fly's smooth yet sharp, crisp and agile, with a greater potential than I have skills currently. Although I suspect that raw performance might be lacking for flyer's of extreme 3D at 370g AUW, which can be overcome by installing a higher performance motor and ESC combo. Some of the 400-800g ali heli's you see pulling hard 3D these days are amazing but require more Amps, larger cells and can fly for less time than the Hornet. Over a year of mild action flying before I had a single crash caused by any component failure (excluding bad servo's ), which was induced by myself previously stressing the tail drive with +/-30 degree pitch swings .

With clone kit parts made by $1 a day workers using cheaper plastics you expect some quality and tolerance issues, you have to be careful when operating them at high rpm.

I got some Venom NR3D parts(Walkera 22E-Z rebadge and cheaper) including an Ali head coming over by carrier pigeon soon...

I have a Duzi Hornet II and a Walkera 22a (walkera came first). Allot of the bad reviews on the 22a came from them advertising it as a trainer. We all know a hornet II setup is not for the unexperienced and the walkera 22a is no different. My Walkera 22a now has a stock hornet tail and MS hornet II bearings throughout. THe H2 and 22a parts are interchangable but the Walkera main gears, bearings, and flybar frame and cariers wear out much faster than MS units. (walkera plastic is not as good) but it will work and cost half as much as MS.

I got my Walkera back in the air after a 10month sit on a shelf while I bought the hornet II (and upgraded), Shogun V1 (and upgraded), Shogun V2 built and flown, Blade CP (Frankinblade). I then took the experience....got the VNR3D Bell hiller head...everything but the mainshaft (vnr3d has a motor driven tail). everything was tight and new and it flies better than ever and as smooth as my Hornet II before the Duzi head and Microheli tail. BTW-some of my new VNR3D head parts have a small 22 printed in them.

The bigest problem with Walkera is the electronics. You can't get them to smoothly control something as quick as a hornet design and so hard landings and such keep it out of adjustment/ballance and a bad experience is the result. The machine is not all that bad and with good electronics....produces hours of flying.

Thanks for your info.

I must have missed a meeting or somat because the VNR3D (Walkera 22E-Z) head set is slightly different, longer at the blade grip mount/threads. Either trim 3mm of ali off each side and extend/tap a new longer thread for 3 bearing HX3D style blade grips or use the Walkera 7x4 mm 2 bearing blade grips (~$7)... Otherwise all good.

I'm using the whole venom head including the grips.

Its just the head that I have used....it works and is cheaper than a hornet head plus MS230 (bell hiller upgrade). Like a third the cost...

I do not know how well the parts will wear....big past problem with this manufacturer (walkera). I've got about 20 flights on it so far and its still tight. I'll let everyone know if/when things start to go south.

well i rebuilt my H2 crash damage yesterday.. went to fly it today and it was sweet... hardly no wag, lots of performance smooth flying.

a whloe 5 minutes. then i got cocky and tried a piro-flipwhich went well for about 3/4 then i dumb thumbed her into the ground.

1ea Blade tailboom, tailshaft, mainshaft.

oh well... but at least this time i have more motivation to build it up again.

Ah man, I got less sympathy for you pulling that move, you crash demon!

Such a small setup change can turn nasty little vibes into a sweet near perfect running silky as a sewing machine like Hornet. Today I found that it only took a 1/2 turn of one beller hiller link to stop a small 2 mm tracking pitch difference that give the heli enough vibes to start a gyro induced tail wag and waste energy.
