My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I picked up one Saturday 09/15. I'm using three HS65HB's, GY401/S3107. I tried a HS50 on the tail, it was too short (didn't want to enlongate the hole). Also a PCM 138 Rx, TP1500, & CC25.

I'd hope to hover it today but I was unsuccessful. I had to fix the T/R pitch slider binding by enlarging the holes. Next there was gear mesh of the motor/tail gears. When I spun it up the first time it shook/screamed like crazy. I did the paper test, but the gear mesh was still too tight. The next spin up was a lot better. It was smooth when the blades set in. But just as it got light on the skids, the tail holding firm, and the adrenaline rush began, the esc kick out. Looks like the 300/34 is too much for the CC25.

So until I get another esc, I'll work on the fuse choosing a paint scheme.

Ok, while waiting for a 35a esc I installed an old Align 25a esc/ 3s 2100mAh and hovered today. Had to dial in neg expo on the 9c Tx and adjust the gear mesh. With winds 6+mph it was a chore keeping it stable, especially when I applied rudder input. When I did, it would drop 2-3 feet.

Set with a linear Pit Crv, and 0,60,75,75,85 Thr Crv, I had to drop the GY401 down to 45%. I'm using a Trex rod to push the tail control.

I'm not happy with the T/R control, so I'll install the HS50 and bump up the HS. I'll post a vid.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Hi all, I am thinking to get an A350 as an addition to my scale fleet. Before I dish out the $$$ for this project, I have a few questions in regards to the build and the flight characteristic for the design.
Is everyone having tail-boom-being-too-long problem? If yes, how much do I have to shorten for perfect fit?
Is there any upgrade you recommend to better its flight characteristic, eg metal tail pitch slider upgrade....?
Are you guys using a second gyro for the pitch axis?
Please also share pictures of your completed pride and joy.

That is one beautiful paint job on your A-Star! Did you do them yourself or had it done by someone else? I would like to get mine painted like that but my painting skill just sucks. Also, body is too fragile for a extensive paint job like yours... How did you do it?

I'm also in the process of looking for someone to apply a professional paint job on my 350 body. I'd very much appreciate some help.

p.s. Revgadget, I'm going to try a Futaba S3110 on the tail. It is a torque servo but it's rated at .10sec/60 degrees.

p.p.s. Where did you find a TP1500? On the website it jumps from TP1320 to TP2000.

p.p.p.s. Flight weight is rated at 400g. Do you know what your bird weighs?

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Thanks guys! I used automotive Dupli-Color paint & clear coat. I put the body together and painted it using masking tape. The letters are done with the Testors Kit (water-slide paper).

Sorry I said TP1500. Its really an Align 2100mAh.

Its worth mentioning to anyone interested. The Tail Boom is VERY thin. One should use caution when/where you test out the mechanics. It bends easy! And how do I know?

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		RevGadget, great job painting up the fuselage. I am in the early stages of putting my kit together and, although I am nowhere near flying it yet, I can definitely attest that this thing goes together like a jewel! Very enjoyable build so far.

Revgadget, can you tell me how you did your clearcoat? Please don't say that you used an HVLP gun or some high test auto paints - seems like everytime I see a nice clearcoat it's because someone used one of these methods. I've looked into them and they seem too labor-intensive for the average joe...

All rattle can. Model Master for the base colors and I used the Automotive Dupli Color Clear Coat ($5). If I had to do it over, I would recommend Krylon fusion for plastics. It has a high gloss finish when it dries.

Zod, you did a great job on the heli in your gallery. Its awesome!

I used Palmolive dish detergent and let it dry. After that, handle the fuse with rubber gloves. I tested the acryl in my airbrush and didn't like the results (same as your pic).

I then decided to use the Model Master Lacquer. They didn't have the clear coat in stock, so I used the Dupli Color. The Model Master clear coat can be layered for glass like shines. And one look at the price of the small bottles drove me to the rattle cans.

I recall doing a MD500 w/Shogun mech, that was made out of the same material. After the paint cured, the fuse became brittle. (I think it was an enamel, but I'm not sure.)

So be careful in the paint type selection. Thats why I recommend the Krylon.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I would like to point out that after cleaning, scuffing is not necessary if you use Krylon Fusion Paint. Nor did I use any on the fuse in the gallery using Model Master. Those pic's are of the second fuse. The first fuse I did was of the Swiss Heli scheme and I used a little scuffing with scotch brite. What I experienced was that the fuse is fragile . And care needs to be taken not to remove (by scuffing) or cover the details (rivets) with paint in the process.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Revgadget, thanks for the kind words regarding the 230 pics in my gallery - I used Tamiya paints thru an airbrush, then *lots* of Tamiya clear spray paint. Then lots and lots of sanding with progressively finer grit sandpaper, then extensive waxing. Like you point out, it is a huge hassle to avoid over-sanding the rivets and exposing the base coat beneath...

I am actually thinking of stiffening the AS350 fuselage, perhaps by layering some carbon fiber cloth "painted" in place with epoxy resin... or maybe just buying a second fuselage and "fusing" this inside my existing one with palsti-weld to create a two-layer shell. Seems like part of the problem investing the time in a nice paint job is that the fuselage in stock form is so easy to bend, crack, and warp. I dropped it from a height of less than one foot (off of a shelf on my workbench) and the nose was irreparably smashed in.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Got my A-star flying tonight. Revgadget is right, this thing is an absolute jewel! After some fiddling with the pitch/throttle curves, she lifted right off. I was very impressed with the 3-blade head- despite the low parts count, she flies very well and so far no unexpected tendencies. I had to work on the tail a bit - the ball bearings in the tail grips are a nice touch, but I kept breaking the 1.5mm bolts, so I went with the old stlye tail grips and the fused tailhub/tailshaft option. Once that was taken care of, she lifted right off into a stable hover. Pretty high headspeed - didn't tach it but it sounded like at least 2000-2100.

Will let y'all know how the fuselage builds up - I think MS is on to something with this 3-blade setup. Low parts count and similar stability/performance to a flybar rotor head...
