To enable parallel port interrupts in XP:

- go to control panel
- go to system
- go to hardware tab and start the device manager
- find and double-click the parallel port in "Ports"
- go to the port settings tab
- make sure "use any interrupt assigned to the port" is selected.

It should tell you to restart and it should work. However... I do believe Microsoft built in a "feature" called System Restore that likes to resist changes to system files. If you restart and the "use any interrupt assigned to the port" is no longer selected, it is probably because XP "helped" you restore your system. To disable system restore, go to the system control panel -> system restore tab.

Please refer to these for more detailed installation instructions:

Try to get PPJoy working before you rework your cable.

Hope this helps.

Hi

Could you clarify something for me? The thing that I need clarified is which pins on the back of the TX is the signal pin, and which one is the ground pin. On the picture below which numbers are the ground and the signal.

Use "Radio Control TX" instead.

Just tried this and got it working with FMS and my Twister CP TX. I used the 10K resistor though and that worked fine.

My old S-video cable also didn't have a shield (cheapo brand) so I bent one pin to touch the shield and used that as the ground. Will get a proper (and longer) shielded cable soon.

Great post and very detailed. Good stuff!

PS: Is there anyway to get this working via USB (possibly a parallel->USB adaptor if one exists? I'd like to use it on my laptop when I go on holidays

Hey great post, great alternative to online purchase.Question tho,
I have a lot of used pc boards where I work and they all have alot of surface mount transistors. Well, they all have 3 digit #s stamped on top (no 2222)Would you happen to know the comparable surface mount # ? And must the resistor strictly be 470 ohms?

Thanks and great work.

Just thought I'd point out that the first post says 4700 ohms but every where else (ie the schematic pic and parts list) say 470 ohms.

I made this mistake and tried the 10K resistor by chance. Luckily that worked

To be broadcasting or not to be broadcasting while on your sim? That is the question.

ktrout153,

Nice thread. Very useful info.

I'm trying to figure out how not to broadcast a radio signal from a Blade Tx while using the sim.

Right now, I'm using my Jr 8103 on a sim. With the JR Tx, when the sim cord is plugged into the back of the Tx, the Tx turns on and sends ppm signal down the cord, but does not transmit radio signals. Nice feature, as Tx (ppm signal) turning on and not broadcasting, would prevent radio interference. i.e. Perhaps a neighbor flying in the neighborhood on the same frequency... not likely, but...

I was wondering if anyone knew of any way to just send the ppm signal down the Tx cord without the transmitter actually sending out the radio signal?

The only way I can think of is to install a mono plug jack, like the one on the JR Transmitters. Wire it so when the jack is inserted, the ppm signal is sent down the jack and power supply to the transmitter part of the radio is cut off.

Does this sound feasible? Would the rewiring be too difficult?

Would it be worth the trouble? Humm...

Is built a sim cable for my E-Flite (E-Sky) transmitter for free using the "other" method, no soldering required. Works fine with FMS.

I have an extra E-Flite transmitter I use for FMS. I use it without the radio crystal so I'm not transmitting constantly.
