How does the rudder function work on the Hirobo Vertols or any other ones for that matter?

Interesting! Left rudder would mean right cyclic on the rear rotor, and left cyclic on the front rotor. and vice versa.

the radio does the mixing for you... so nose in would be the same except orientation would be slightly difficult from a distance, as there is no tail rotor and nose to contrast looks. That would suck if you had to do the mixing manually!

Actually I think it's all done mechanically. Gotta study a fellow pilot's some time to see how it works. Plus it has 2 gyros for elevator & rudder. Some even add a 3rd for aileron. They're very twitchy. Elevator would work by raising the swash on one end & lowering on the other & vice versa.

I dared him to 3D it. No luck.

If you think rudder on a Vertol is complicated, what about co-axial rotors? Like the Kamov KA-(12?) The top blades would increase pitch & vice versa for the lower to induce torque to turn the heli.

I don't own the Hirobo Vertol model (even though I will eventually) but I have the instruction manual for it and I flew the full size CH-46 in the Marine Corps.

The linkage between the heads is a mechanical one, even though you can y-cable two servos to avoid the long linkages.

For a left turn, the forward swashplate tilts left, and the rear swash tilts right. The tricky part is when in a turn, the rear head wants to 'pass' the front head because they are now creating thrust out of line with each other. That's why a gyro on the tail is a necessity with the vertol.

On the full size helo, there are two redundant stabilization computers keeping the rear rotor head behind the front one. Imagine how much fun it is when you lose (or switch off) those computers in a turn. (The answer: REAL fun! "Change your pants" fun!)

Where is the yaw axis on the vertol? Does it rotate around the front rotor or the middle of the heli?

ah mechanical linkage, i thought i heard someone talking of electronic mixing. sorry.

So i guess there would only be two controls for each rotor - collective and aileron? Because the fore/aft motion is shared between the rotors?

The Vertol has 5 mix in the heli itself
You must have one Gyro, and that is on the Elevator
You do not beed it on the tail! But if you are it helps
I have one (havent been in the air for 8 years)
I have hoover it plenty and flown it some times, but a friend of me
have flovn it rather hard and also did autorotation with it
Its one thing you must be aware of and that is that the blades must be very hard fastened becouse they can slam into the other blades if you dont ( I know becouse its happened)
The weight of the blade are appr 80 gr
And you have 2 sets of 3 blades
Left and right rotation
My plan for it is to buy some new blades from Hi-products
and make it ready for next year with a os 50 ( now os 32)
I have never painted the fuselage, but will also do that this winter
I will only fly it on calm days and hopefully never crach it

So each rotor has collective, throttle, elevator and aileron same as a normal pod and boom heli. So to move forward both swash's tilt forward and back both tilt back and right both tilt right and left both tilt left, but for rudder movement one tilts one way and the other tilts the other way...Correct?

So my next question would have to be is if this is true how is the mixing done for the rudder movement? Heli is set-up as standard would be for all movements using linkages or y-leads and rudder is a special mixing? If so how is this special mixing done?

Anyone got a copy of the Hirobo Vertol Manual online or a copy they can photocopy and post me? (Will pay for postage and whateva)

but hold on, you don't need elevator control on it right? to make fore/aft movement you just use opposing collective settings on each rotor, correct?

it seems if you did use the elevator feature then it would be trying to flex the heli in half.

Sounds like a hoot to set up,I know where a bloke is getting rid of a hirobo 30-40 twin rotor, should I get involved.
Are there good and average ones? I remeber reading a article(British maybe) about a Heim i think, approx 5-8 yrs ago that had a german onboard mixer. wooden sideframes , looked scary!!
