I still enjoy flying my Eolo pro,and going to do so for a looong time
It is the perfect e-heli for me,small but not too small and very stable.
Eolo is very reliable heli and when i need parts for it,i can easily order them from ercmarket

Stet,

New to the Eolo crew and judging by the response to your post I should enjoy every minute of this machine. Thanks for yours and Laurens advice on the motor choice. I have ordered and will have the 8L here shortly, can't wait to get this heli in the air.

Perth RC in Western Australia are both Robbe and Hacker agents and they have indicated continued support of the Robbe product. I should have no problems obtaining parts for the eolo line from what I can see.

I will let you know how she goes when all set up.

Edon.

First batch

I got my Eolo 22 when they were first released and would fly it once in a blue moon. I bought it to fly in the back garden. Back then a big backyard heli was a bit unusual. But it needs a little more room than that. Recently I have taken it out of mothballs having gotten a few more electric helis and now, probably because of flying the other little electrics, I find it cumbersome. It's a gorgeous bird, and yes, very stable but so lacking in punch. I had fitted semi symmetrical blades but I wonder now if that was such a good choice. I also realise that going LiPo would help but don't know whether it's worth the investment as parts are drying up..........or even what battery setup works the best. I can see that she will get mothballed - might even sell it if I can bring myself to do that.
In its day she was a big step forward but now it is like a dinosaur.

One less

Too late. Buried it today. Took it out with me to the field and completely wrecked it. Nowt is salvageable. I tell a lie, the boom, swashplate, tail rotor grips, blades, flybar paddles survived. So what can I throw the servos into next as I won't be rebuilding it?
Should have sold it!!!!!!

She lives "I'll be back"

Have been able to get the drive gear so gonna fix the bird and get it back in the air. Hoping the feathering spindle survived the blast as the blades and flybar were untouched. Anyone suggest anything I might like to do to it on the rebuild to make it a little better without costly alloy upgrades???

hello,

I am really getting crazy with the eolo and its power system.
I have tried the twist 37 on 3 s and for me it is an underpower machine, I tried the lehner 1930/6 on 4s 3700mAh and it function well but the batteries last only 4min, the motor was very hot. I set the jazz to 40% to get 2200 rpm with 15T pinion.
I decided to lower the pinion to 11 and 10T (0,7 module from logo 14) to tried to have a better eficiency runing and see if batteries last more.
It has been a disaster, the motor does not respond well, it doesnt speed up, get very hot ant the batteries only last 4 min, for my surprise the batteries (polyquest xp 3700mAh 4s) never got hot.
I think that probably the jazz 40-6-18 is not enought for this motor as it is really sucking more than 50A.
Please give me your opinions, I am thinking that at last I will have to buy another motor for the eolo ( hacker 40L 9?), I have to say that I am really tired of this heli, I love even more my trex and my acrobat se.
thank you for your comments

The 1930-6 is more suited for 3S. Not sure if I am running it on 14 or 15T pinion, I forget. I have one on my camera carrying eolo which is heavy. The motor gets barely warm, and with 3S3P battery it flies well under the heavy load for 4 minutes. Will fly much longer, but headspeed drops and gets unstable. I do have a heatsink on the motor.

Kontronic controller is very nice, I have the 55-6-18 with the lehner. Very important that you run speed controllers close to maximum throttle. I run the lehner at 95% in governor mode. This is much easier for the speed controller to operate.

If you have 4S batteries, get the Hacker 9L motor. You should be very happy with the power. I have that setup with a 40-6-18 controller and 4S3P battery, but have not tested it yet since the model is a long way from being done (scale). I also run the 8L motor with the 40-6-18 on my sport eolo on 3S2P and am very happy with it, but folks who want 3D power would be better served with the 9L and 4S.

Maybe, but perhaps not so for the Jazz according to their instuctions on page 26.

"A highlight of the Jazz speed controller is the dynamic automatic adjusting of its beat frequency and its commutation angle. This ensures that depending on the actual used power, the connected motor runs always in its best point of efficiency. Especially in partial load this allows more flight time or more power and the motor stays cooler,"

I don't suggest it as an issue for the motor, only the controller.

On electric with governor mode, we want to run the throttle as high as possible. Then it all boils down to the correct gear ratio.
Pretty standard procedure. Speed controllers tend to run hotter at lower averaged throttle settings.

I think Kontronic's comment applies more to airplane setups where speeds are more variable, though it may indicate that indeed the controller is not susceptible to any problem or extra wear if run at low settings.

I have seen a lot of controllers fail due to low settings, though not Kontronic.

Just a rule of thumb when spec'ng out your electric motor / voltage / gear ratio combination.

thank you stet, I will have to buy the hacker because I have the lipos for the eolo 4s and want more power than just 3s.
The lehner has been a little dissapointing for me. It is an expensive motor that runs too hot and here in east spain weather is not for a hot running motor.
thank you again

First flight on the new setup today. C40 8L, flightpower Evo20 3s 1p 3700 14t. Had 10mins of flight time and loved every sec. No more overspeeding(twist 37, it is now a paper weight). Motor only got warm to touch and had considerably more power, this thing is a rocket ship

Great advice re the hacker Stet, cheers. Interesting that you made a comment re the 3s 8L maybe unsuited for 3d. Well after today it is evident that this is no slug. I have not had the pleasure of flying a Trex so I cant compare however I dont feel there is a need. The inverted climbouts today were awesome and combined with the light paddles it was all good.
