I don't think I'm anywhere near interested in an electric the size of the 600. I'll stick with my 90's for the need "large" days.

BUT, if I were, I'd wait, as others have stated, and let them get it debugged. I'm not willing to put up my HARD EARNED $$ and be a beta tester. I waited on the SE V2 for my first Rex and DO NOT regret it! (for very specific reasons, like QC issues and failing parts)

Though I was primarily interested in feedback from those that have actually seen the 600 and seen it fly, the input is valuable regardless. Thanks.

np.

Personally, I'm curious as well to hear more from average flyers about the 600.

You'll find that most people are skeptical of anything new, especially when there's so much on the market already that has a proven track record. That puts a lot of pressure on Align to put some quality and keep costs down for the customer.

We'll see how it fairs. As I said, I'm sure people will not even think before buying it all up. It's human nature.

The smart one's will wait.

I don't agree that "smart ones will wait". Some people, myself included like a challenge. I enjoy tooling as much as flying, and don't mind taking on something that would otherwise be potentially frustrating to benefit others...maybe sometimes to be the first on the block with the new toy...

...And it's only money!
I may get one just to put on my fireplace mantel...

For those with budget constraints, families and other responsibilities, waiting is the safest bet though.

As much as I'd like to think that I'm a "waiter", I was one of the First to get the H9 260 (what the heck is that... oh no, a planker .), as well as the lanier Edge. Both ended up being pretty decent choices. I am on Readyheli's waiting list for the TREX, though with the motor I have now (NEU 1910 1Y), I might be better off with a Logo10 instead.

I'm on the same boat. I love a challenge and tooling with everything.

However, you missed my point.

"Smart ones will wait" for the 'real world' lipo testing in this 600 heli.

I fly my E-Raptor 50 which is identical to weight, blades as the TRex 600 and I fly it with a 10S2P 4200 TP Prolite which is $550.

If I fly with anything less, the lipo is the weak link and will fail after a small number of flights.

Remember that this is nothing new. There are already large electric heli's out there.

Putting a 6S2P or 6S3P 4200 TP prolite into a 50 heli with 600mm blades is just like putting a TP 1320 3S1P or a 2100 2S1P into a Rex with 335 mains. Fly that hard and watch what happens to the lipo.

It's all about the battery which will make or break this specific heli.

There is just no 'cheap' or 'workaround' way to put anything less than a 400-550 lipo in it.

That plus you will have to upgrade the charger/balancer as well.

I was responding to your most recent post regarding it being new, not shaken out yet. I didn't say batteries would be cheaper, that was someone else. That's part of the reason I said those with budget constraints should wait.
I'm not one for cutting corners, and agree that it's a mistake to save a bit of money now, only to throw it away later and start over the right way.

I don't get it. Everyone says "1/2 the weight of a 50 sized heli." Where does that come from? A 50 engine and tank of fule isn't 70% of the flying weight of the heli is it? Once you replace the Nitro Stuff for Electric Stuff how much of a difference could it actually be? Yeah, I know its lighter but 50%?? It couldn't be that much could it?

Its not 50% lighter. To save money on lipos the new emoli v28's that are used in the new Milwaukee power tools wil be an option in the 11s-12s 3000mah range. You can buy two 7s1p 3000 packs for $200 to make the 11s or 12s packs.

Besides those batterys you wil lhave to run a 10s2p setup maybe a 8s2p for mild flying with prices in the $500+ range.

50 size Helis are not and will not be cheap to fly.

I think the size and weight - and how you intend to fly - determines the power required. My Logo 14 carbon is very light at 6.3 lb at lift-off, has a 2.1 HP battery pack, ditto the motor, and is designed for any 3-D maneuver you have the thumbs to do. Let this be your reference for a 50 sized machine..

My batteries are TP 10s2p 4000's.

There is no such thing as a lighter 50 e-machine, unless it is weak.

There is no such thing as flying hard 3-D with less than 2 HP on a machine this size.

But there is such a thing as a machine for flying FF and a few simple maneuvers that could get by with 1.6 HP and the corresponding battery pack..

After all, how many T-Rex fliers are really 3-D pilots?

So by 2.1 HP, you're talking about 1500 watts??? 8S at 60A can deliver that much power.

frankaart - you might be able to arrange time with Erich Stoltz, contact info at
http://www.rcheliflight.com/training.htm

He's an awesome pilot, and though his schedule is full at times, it would be well worth making the arrangements IMHO.

I just think it's bloody great news there is going to be competition in the 50 class e-helis. When I bought my Logo 20 it was the only real choice for me , as a kit, out of the box. The few comments about whether size matters (stop sniggering) - for me - there is something very special about firing up a large bird (I said stop it!) - the sound of the rotors, the sheer size of it, the blade slap - and most importantly (at least for me) - the visibility of larger choppers (sigh!). It'll be funny if a lot of people who got into helis because of the affordable t-rex grab one of these - they are in for a shock when they see it spin up.

Things are looking up for larger e-helis. You can now buy a rappy 50 with e-conversion kit, motor, and esc for £450 in the UK. You can do this yourself (i.e. make your own kit) for under £400. Which is great. I'm very tempted ;-). (My logo with motor and esc was more like £1k when I got it). You can also get the Logo 14 (don't know how much), Logo 20, and now the T-Rex 600.

I'm guessing, and hoping, that the t-rex 600 will push larger lipos to the fore of the market and get the prices down. This seems to happen when cheapy equivalents start appearing on ebay :-) - I'm also guessing it will only be a matter of weeks/month or two before we can buy emoli cells without buying drill packs. Not long now....(praying)

Plus the TT eR50 is being released (could be a prototype) on the 20th in the UK. MA has a 50 size being released and there is a Mini-joker on the way.
