My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Hi guys, i am going to produce some Carbon Fibre Frame Stiffener's instead of the normal standard metal ones. I need however an accurate drawing of the original frame stiffener so i can trim out my own. If anyone can supply me with a detailed 2d drawing of this i will send them some free Carbon Custom Frame Stiffeners. I work for an F1 team so this is possible to whatever thickness etc. i choose so will obviously be testing strength etc. to make sure they are as strong.

The frames are quite thick, I would imagine they would be difficult to draw around accurately..especially around the holes, I dont think it can be done properly with a pen/pencil ?

I've been thinking about using carbon frame stiffeners for a while now. Perhaps it's time to get hold of a sheet of CF, whip my stiffeners off and set to with a dremmel.

I have been producing parts using a flatbed scanner for a while its very easy, just scan at 100% size and save as a .JPG, transfer to your CAD package (AutoCAD works well) and draw the outline from the image.

Print out and lay the part on top to check for accuracy and away you go!

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		personally i think the stiffeners are a waste of time especially if not used with the base plate-the radio crate is still free to flex,(grab the chassis at rear and radio crate then twist)granted the stiffness is improved around the motor mount but they dont help tie everything together.
ideally id like to see the motor mount extended down to the base plate with two holes tapped out underneath so bolts could be used to tie together from underneath,a extended ali stiffener could be used to same effect,
or a simpler option would be to make the replacement carbon stiffeners but make the bottoms longer with a 90 deg lip on bottom to enable it to bolt to base plate-aluminim angle or a similar mount could be made if not able to find/make the carbon with the 90deg section

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		This is a one piece cnc machined from billet aluminum for maximum strength. The base plate ties the whole bottom frame together including the engine mount.

The boom supports are relocated to the base plate giving the tail boom increased triangular strength.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I would have thought carbon would be a better bet. I simply made up some right angle aluminium brackets that fitted between the base plate and the engine mounts. The weight is 49g including screws.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Carbon fiber up to 6mm have been test and still cracked with an accidental hard landing. The plastic frame has just too much flex for a CF base to work properly.

The aluminum base plate seems to take a beating and keep on ticking.

Also the plastic frames for the R50 evolved from an R30 with more or less extra plastic ribs. Engine power grew from a 30 to a powerful Hyper 50. The 500 gram Hyper50 is too much power for the plastic frame. By using a one-piece bottom plate, this solves the problem with the added engine brace.

The landing skids are also mounted in a separate holes. So hard landings will not distort the frame causing bearing damage.
