The Reactor conversion kit pictures are in my gallery now. This is a conversion kit for the Predator that I made using my CNC machines. The finished weight without fuel is 9 lbs 7.6 oz. I will be testing this design over the next 2 months. There are a few select people who are also flying the Reactor. There are three of them flying at this time. Some of you may have seen it at Birmingham.

The Reactor uses the Century CCPM contol system except for the elevator servo is in the back, on top of the boom clamp and the elevator lever has been fliped over. You can see from the pictures that it also has the bearing holes in the stock location on the frames. It can be built either way. The reason I fliped it is so that I can make an elevator push-pull bell crank that is 20mm/20mm, instead of the 20mm/14mm that Centurt offers.

You will notice from the pictures that alot of effort was put into raising the center of gravity. Everything was mounted as high as possible in the frames to achive this. The servos and fuel tank have been raised along with the canopy being raised almost an inch. It balances dead nuts with a two cell duralite.

It also has break-away canopy mounts as to not damage the frames in a crash. The side frames are 2.5mm carbon and the base plate is 5mm. The rudder linkage is new also, it has a horizontal bellcrank that transfers the tail contol rod to the left side. The tail contol rod is square to the boom in all directions. The boom supports have been moved outward to clear the tail push rod via a small piece of carbon fiber.

I will tell you that this thing flys really good. It is pig rich and has a sick amount of pop. You can really feel the weight/center of gravity improvements. I am still getting it dialed in as I only have about a gallon on it.

So the objective was to reduce weight and raise the CG?

Sick

Have you nothing to do but improve on helicopter design? This is going too far this time! To rip off Peter Chao, the master himself! That's how he got started you must know. He developed his shuttle parts stuff to evolve into the modern Hawk. If you keep this up I'm going to have to buy one . Looks superb as usual Mike , keep it up.

I think I will do a Gasser version next, or mabey an electric then the Raven 50. I really like the Reactor though. At this point I am not wanting for anything more..........yet. Basicly I did what all the Century reps have been wanting for years, starting with moving the fuel tank to the rear and saving a bunch of weight.

Parts?

Mike , what parts are required? I would rather use all new and maybe not throw a lot of a new kit away. Have you listed a complete parts list or just what? I have friends with these predators but I don't. Maybe the kit is the answer. I love the blades that come with it.

Reactor

Looks good. I'm curious why you still have the stacked frames? Looks to me like they only add weight, complexity, and some extra flexibilty to the frames. The lighter weight, tank in back, and the higher CG are all heading the right direction. Nice work. steve.

Steve,
Look closer, the frames are not "stacked" the servo plates are the only "stacked" part of the heli. If you look close you will see a small frame that the servos are mounted to. It is not much bigger than the two servos. The servo plates only hold the servos they dont do anything else. It is nesissary to stand the servo mounmts off of the frame so you can get the servos back to back.

Tim,

I tried to do it the "parts" way and it works out to be more costly. It is best to buy the whole kit and sell the parts you dont use. I was better off buying the whole kit even though I upgraded to alot of the metal stuff. Do the math and you will see, it good practice anyway. There are alot of predators out there and they a dropping like flys, so people will buy parts. I sold all of my leftover parts in the first 2 hours of listing.

After I complete the testing I will be kitting this conversion if everything goes well. I got some good test flights on it yesterday. This machine flys much better that the stock predator. It will change directions faster than you can turn your head. So far I am really happy with this machine.

I saw this helicopter and it is a really nice, well thought out design. Remember though, the Futaba round wheels do not have the holes at 20 mm. Using them you will get binding in the push pull. The heavy duty cruciform arms from Futaba are the ones with holes at 20 mm. The round wheels have holes at 19.6 mm. (Yes, the difference will show up at the travel extremes)

I noticed that the wheels are not exactly 20mm. Could you post a picture of the wheel that is 20mm. Yes I understand that the push pull set-up is critical. Also the bell crank being EXACTLY 90 degrees on BOTH sides is very critical to getting even throws on the aileron. A quick check is easy, you put your swash level tool (I use the MA tool)on at center stick and check to see if the swash is EXACTLY level. Then take both links from the bellcrank to the swash off and measure them, if they are EXACTLY the same length then you are ok. If they are different then the bellcranks are not at 90 degrees on both sides.

Please post a picture of the 20mm servo wheel as I would like to correct that.
