Im running the Tango with a 9T or 10T, still cant make up my mind which one is better. This combo seems too hot for my batteries 6S 3650 Tanic and 6S 4000 TP

I may try the Century motor.

I need flight time for hovering too, not just brute power.

what are your ESC settings?

My batt gets hotter during hovering vs FF.

If for AP...550 blades and 10T pinion is the way to go for slower head speed for maximun flight time.

Best of luck!

Using stock blades for now, I thought the 550 would be too heavy and long

The ESC is set standard timing

nope the 550s work great on the swift. i have even ran a set of 570s but it was pretty tough on my motor/batts

you should have seen the climb rate on the 570s and 7s!

it honestly would climb so fast i could hardly see it in a matter of seconds

There is no doubt about how well the Swift will fly with the 570 blades and a large enough power system to drive them. As I have seen some locally in action myself.

The question is: Are the stock components of the heli designed to take the extra forces these super systems impose? With the kit coming STOCK with just 515mm mainblades, I would assume that it is designed to accept power and loads from these sized blades turning at a reasonable 1800 to 2000 rotor speed. With a power system to properly drive these 515mm mainblades, they will fly very well, dependably and with acceptable wear factors that would be experienced from the smaller loads of these shorter blades at these rotor speeds.

Just like when we started powering our 60 size nitros with 90 engines or our 30 size nitros with Hyper 50 engines, we soon learned that they could not take the extra loads without some issues developing. Consequently the manufacturers came out with designs specifically geared to these extra loads - voila the 50 size and 90 size nitros we see today.

It is certainly a feather in the Swift's cap, in that it has done as well as it has, with all of these hi-power/hi-load systems installed.

its difficult to say what effects the larger blades/motors have on the stock swift. I too have been concerend about this and i will be purchasing the metal headblock and metal blade grips as soon as the grips are available.

that being said i have a ton of flights on mine with no problems as of yet!

Yes!
BTW, stock blades are 520mm.
"Recommended" max head speed is up to 2100rpm.
I also use helimax 550mm for some serious lifting when needed.
No 3d here and as mentioned...purchase quality the first time and you only buy once.

Sounds pretty intense!

197 degrees sucks though. You going to send it to add the fan? Took a couple weeks for my 1910-1.5Y and I live here in the states but I know your from Canada so I would wonder how long it would take round trip.

That's pretty cool on the batteries, they prolly get hotter off the charger!

I'll buy a fanned motor, then send the unfanned to be upgraded, can't live without my swift

Just curious if you think the 12s setup is worth the extra money? it sounds like you get maybe 2-3 min extra flying time but at the expense of a really hot motor, way more expensive batteries and a whole lot more weight.

just curious why you went with this setup and if you feel the extra costs were justified in better performance?

I first flew on 10S 4000mAh (cost 165$), the 12S 3200mAh cost 175$ and weight the same as the 10S pack. TrueRC lipos are a real deal

Only real cost is in motor temp, the extra performance far outweight it.
Anyway this was the hottest the motor could ever get, average temp should be in the 180-185F and probably 150-160F with the fan. The 1912-1.5Y on 12S generate a lot of torque as it spin over 22K rpm.

Seem like this needs a bump and updated info-pics after someone posted is "the precious" a dying breed?

ESC: P-80
Motor: Kontronic TANGO 45-07
Pinion: 12T
Battery: Flightmax 5S 5000mA 15C (not for 3d, good for mild acro)
Head Speed: 1600
Blades: stock 520
Flight Duration per type of flying...
Hover: barely hover much lately
Mild-Average: < 7min
3D: <5min

Comments:

45W peak consuming an average of 450mA per minute or <3500mA per flight.

errr..had to show it off next to my latest project as well

I moved the ESC inside the right frame where it gets better cooling and protection. Now using a rubber band to hold in place rather than the plastic wire ties...goes around the body of ESC to upper canopy stand off.

Painted servo horns red to match motor

Antenna routed via the left side.

Painted inside of windshield with Rust-Oleums high heat flat black BBQ paint.

Why did you go with the 10T pinion?

With the 10T pinion at 100% ESC (most efficient) you will get a very high head speed (2310) for that size/type of heli...specially for training. Even with an ESC setting of 80% you will be on the edge of safety with wood blades as your head speed will be in the area of 1850. These higher head speeds are geared for the more extreme 3D pilot using very good C/F mainblades.

The 10T pinion on that motor is more for use on 5 cell packs, with ESC (80% to 100%)settings that will deliver rotor speeds from 1550 to 1925.

Just a heads up cautionary FYI.

I would consider a 9T pinion as it will give you extra flying time as well. Definitely make sure that you used epoxy on the blades roots/plastic.
