Just finished the initial setup and trimming of the used 3d pro i picked up here the other day. After the t-rex it sure is a handful. I'm sure I'll be able to get a little more balance and tail authority out of her eventually.. it seems as though it may take a really good set of digital scales and calipers to get it near perfect but I think it can be done.

Right now it's running the helitech belt drive, JGF 400DF outrunner motor, an apex 3s 2100 mah lipo, an ikarus profi gyro, 20a eflite esc, 2 eflite s75's and 2 spektrum s75's (same thing i think). I had to replace two of the servos and the struts as they were junk when i got the heli but other than that everything was fine. First thing to go is gonna have to be the gyro. Does anybody have any suggestions? I'm spoiled by the 401, but feel it may be overkill in this little thing.. is there a middleground on that or should I just go overboard and never look back?

it's been raining here for a week (very unusual) so I haven't been able to fly at all. Going to work early to do some flying with this guy in the production room. I'll get some video too and hopefully I can figure out how to upload it.

Thanks to everyone for there tidbits of wisdom in helping me get this guy setup!

i dont think the 401 is overkill. if you want the tail to hold on a small heli, there's none better. i dont think the 3dpro is a 'toy' version of the trex. if anything, it needs a better gyro due to its smaller size....its just as capable. it just is a little more squirrelly due to its smaller size.

as for the servos, i'd definitely make sure you have 3 matched ones on cyclic. i'm not sure if those are the same either...but, if they are different you'll get some strange interactions.

if it ain't broke…break it.

I have nearly the same setup as you. I couldn't get the tail to settle down until I replaced the blade holders with the aluminum ones and shimmed the slop out of every thing I could. Now I need to find a good, fast tail servo. I am running 3 Futaba 3107s on the cyclic and they are working great.

I have a wierd problem with my 401. It works fine in "Normal" mode but will hardly work at all in heading hold mode. When in HH, the tail goes wild.

I took the 401 out and put the little Century gyro in and it is working for the moment. After I get everythin dialed in and am happy with the flight, I will return to the 401 gyro and experiment.

One issue I had with the aluminum upgrade was placing the blade grips on the tail shaft. I had it too close to the tail transmission and couldn't get enough pitch in that direction.

What throttle and pitch curves are you using?

i had the same problem with my 401 when i had the remote gain plugged into the wrong channel (first time with a new JR TX)....

just confirm the gyro is actually getting the gain settings you *think* you are adjusting.

what radio and RX are you flying, and what is your gain set to, BTW?

if it ain't broke…break it.

i am using a Futaba T6EXHP and had the gyro plugged into channel 4 with the sensitivity plugged into channel 5. Sensitivity settings of -60 and +46 are what is in the TX.

I am using a Berg 6 channel FM RX. The problem didn't change with the Futaba 6 ch FM RX either.

Any Ideas? Any way to check the gyro?

i dont know futaba tx.

i'd say have a look at finless' 401 setup video. i think it has some good starting points on the gain, and he uses a futaba for the vid.

if it ain't broke…break it.

I'm using the century outrunner w. my 3dpro.

I'm pulling +/- 10 degrees, and the curve is a straight line in all flight modes (i.e. zero at mid stick).

In normal mode, my throttle is an s-shape, with zero and 100% at low and high stick. This curve flattens between 50% and 85% stick position with a value of about 50% output. In idle up, my throttle curve is a smoothed v shape, with 100% output at low and high stick, and about 60% output at mid stick.

All of these settings are surprisingly like those on my Predator Max.

Cheers,
SteveR
