Hi All,

I've been searching the web on emoli cells. does anyone have any experience with these?

I'm not sure what cobalt lithium-ion does for the technology. But I'm sure curious.

cheers,
Leslie

Have they come out yet? I believe its the same vapor technology we saw from MIT. They perfected a conductive process for insulators where they basically sprinkled a bunch of iron fillings around a lithium electrolite or something to that effect.

Can't remember the name of the company either. But they were promising something mid 2006. The lead MIT guy started up and I even exchanged a couple emails with them at one point.

Forgive me Leslie, I'm digressing, but it just dawned on me... You're the same leslie that sends me those shipment confirm messages from RCHOVER! It's all coming together for me now

Hi Shelldude,

this is the first evidence I found of the technology moving into the public sector: http://www.molienergy.com/products.htm

Cheers,
Leslie

oh, and I'm not the same leslie from rchover. I believe that is jeremey's wife her last name is Waltzer (sp).

bah.... here I thought I'd unraveled a mystery.

The company I was thinking of is http://www.a123systems.com/html/home.html Incidentally it was as I was going through old emails trying to remember the name of the company that I saw an old ship confirm email from rchover and just assumed ya'll were one and the same.

The Emoli cells in the V28 drill packs are not really suitable for the T-Rex. They are too heavy and not anymore cost effective than getting 2 of the Apex 15c packs for $100.

I'm confused... (not rare)

Here are the specs following the above links:

ICP103450 For OEM Only 2000maH 10.4 x 34 x 50mm 39 grms 3.75 volts

SO it is 2,000 at only 39 grams !?

That seems to be very light, not heavy..

I was referring to the Emoli cells that are used in the Milwaukee drill packs. These are the only ones I know of that have been tested for heli flight. There are many threads discussing these cells over at RC Groups. The cells are approx 100g each so a 3s pack would weigh 300g. The Milwaukee v28 packs are 7s and cost a little less than $100 which is why everyone is excited and using them in mid-size to larger e-helis.

zdrcorp,

AT 39 grams each for a 3.75 volt 2000 mahcell, a 3S pack would be about 120 grams - isn't that what our packs weigh now?

What goes up must come around

I am unsure what is inside the V28 drill packs.

But the prismatic cells spec'ed on the sites look very promising !!

Catfight,

NO, our packs do not weight 120 grams, by far !!. The best packs I have weight 146 grams without connectors.
Also, the 39 grams may include some wraping and connectors, so it could be less at the end.

zrdcorp,

You are right- I just weighed one of my Apex 2100 15C 3S packs at 160 grams - quite a difference Will have to see how this develops.

you're right about the weight thing. right now the technology is perfectly suited to the logo10/swifts of the world (though with the rate these things are developing that may change by this summer)

but, you can charge the emolis at 3C...so, its not really the same as two apex packs that take an hour. with two emoli packs you can fly all day continuously.

if it ain't broke…break it.

I can charge 4 Apex packs in an hour so the 3c charge rate isn't an advantage.

You can buy 3 v28 packs for $265 shipped.

That will make 7 3s1p 3000mah packs @ 15C.

I've seen a few guys run them in their Rex's on rcgroups.

I flew a swift today on one 7S1P emoli pack and it hauls. Heavy 3D.

Using the TP1010 charger, you can charge them at 3C = 15mins for a 7S1p 3000mah pack which is similar to the 6S2P 4200 TP prolite.

So far, the average/best deals are the Apex/TP 2100's for the Rex.

The MAJOR advantage of the moli cells are as follows:

- cost
- charge at 2-3C
- durable like nicad's
- can be run down until they provide no power.
- they do not baloon like lipo's
- they balance incredibly well after running them down past std consumption.

... But honey it was only $$$

V28's rule for sport flying. They have changed E flight for me. Since i started with them a few month back i havent touched a bag of lipo. I use them in everything larger than a trex.

we can never have too many, can we ?
