Computer Flight Simulators > USB won't see XTR most of the time

Hi:

Maybe somebody can help. I've had the XTR sim for several years now. Normally it works great, but for the most part now the program will not recognize the USB dongle and the transmitter. I've disconnected every other USB device, tried to update the software, and still no luck. Is there a newer USB driver available for this thing? It's pretty useless the way it is now...

I had the same problem (thats why I finally sold the program)
each and every time I would plug in the tx and the usb doggle I had to reinstall the drivers. It is really easy and can be done in a minute or two but it got to be a hassle.
You might want to try it.
Just plug in the tx and usb doggle. Make sure the tx is on. Click on my computer, right click, then click on manage then just reinstall the drivers.
Hope this helps

yea, I just did that. It worked fine for my sim session. Then I turned it off and it would not recognize it again.... Odd

The bottom line is your dongle is BAD. Call and return it for a free replacement.

Mine went bad it was just like it wasn't there. They sent me back a replacement after about a month. The latest color seems to be red.
Works great like it should. Reflex will replace the dongle for free no matter what. If you are not sure if it is bad just smack it hard with a hammer or let your dog chew on it just to make sure they send you a new one.

Wayne,

Contact Jeff Green at MRC. He will be more than willing to assist..Customer support is A-1 with him...I know because I just received a new interface, cable and software disk to see if it would resolve the same dilemma.

Unfortunately, there is something in my machine that keeps deleting the driver as was stated by "vrex", and, the replacements have not allowed me to run the program...All I get is "Reflex Interface not responding".

I am about to delete all of my Norton's anti-virus and Internet Security software to see if this is the culprit in my machine. Those who have the problem...are you running any of Norton's software on your machines?

Thanks

Roy

In my case I was able to troubleshoot it by just borrowing a dongle from my hobby shop. BAM it worked so I knew mine was bad. As you said it might be a good idea to disable some of the Norton stuff. I do run NAV without a problem. It has never been an issue. It is not uncommon for a dongle to just stop working. Like I said the latest color seems to be RED, this might mean different versions that fix earlier problems...

microDan,

Jeff sent me a red replacement which workded on his machine before he sent it out...the trouble seem to be in my machine and, I wonder if it is Norton.

Sometimes problems like that are caused by a power issue on the USB port. Have you tried using a powered USB hub?

I guess I forgot to mention that you have to reinstall the drivers every time, even it is only a couple of hours since you last used the sim.
Don't know why

I have XP with SP1.
If you have SP2 that could be the problem. There have been some issues with Service Pack 2. I'm not saying direct issues with XTR but it has been buggy. That's why I won't get it until I'm forced too. Just a thought.

Thanks for all the help guys! I sent Jeff a note, I know he is 150% and will help out as always. I do run XP with SP2, who knows? I'm thinking I installed some new hardware like the usb external drive or usb microphone and that started the issues. I've reinstalled XTR with no real luck though.

This hurts, I sure need the sim practice!!!!

Hope to see you guys in Maryland in just about 8 weeks!

regards

I soldered mine and it works great now. Weak solder points are the #1 reason they go bad I believe.

AlabamaRaptor,
That has been said many, many times. What procedure do you use to open up the sealed dongle? And how carefull do you have to be not to damage the circuit board while performing the surgery? How is it usually sealed back up to keep it durable. I have my own thoughts but I'd like to hear what guys have done in the past.

As I knew, MRC Jeff Green responded to my note within a few minutes. I'll send him the old dongle, he'll send me the new one, and with a little good fortune the problem will be solved. Hats off to Jeff as always for such great customer service.

The dongle isn't sealed, it just has plastic latches that hold the 2 outer shell pieces of the dongle together. I took my time to be sure that I didn't break any of the plastic latches. Upon visual inspection the soldering to the USB port looked OK; however, I broke out the soldering iron and resoldered the 4 posts to the circuit board and it began working again. I'll try to post pics to my gallery on Monday and reply back to this post.

NOTE: I contacted MRC also about my dongle but once I found out that it could take a month for them to just get to my dongle during peak times I opted to do the soldering fix. I was told by MRC that they test the dongle before replacing it so unless they changed their process then it could be a little while before you get the replacement dongle.

I guess I really never looked close enough, I thought it was sonically (welded) seal. Now I see the tabs. Thanks for pointing that out to me.
