Today I recieved my flange to properly mount a Trex tail boom to the icon kit and accompanied by a letter from PJ's son Carl stating that his father had a stroke and was out of critical care. Carl is trying to sort through the orders and get them out of what goes to whom. He appreciates our thoughts and prayers.

Hi Arnie -

Thanks for the update on PJ!

I switched my Himax 2015/3600kV to a 9 tooth pinion (originally built Icon Blade with ten tooth) and performance suffered greatly. Got unloaded max HS of 2410 (zero pitch) but head bogged significantly applying pitch. Heli would climb very slowly and HS decayed to 2050. I was only pulling max power of 70 watts (6.5 Amps) at full throttle and +10 pitch. Ten tooth performance was better but still not as good as I was expecting. I'll have to put the ten tooth (and probably try an 11 also) back on and get some power data from it.

Hello JB642,
Thanks for the up date your going to fine tune that bird to your liking. I'm redoing mine with a 25A align esc and a Century outrunner for the 3D Pro with 13T. I'll have plenty of power should be great.

Arnie -

What is the power rating for your new motor? The Himax site rates the 2015 at 110 watts max. Mine should have a lot of extra power but is only maxing at 70 per my previous post... I wonder if I should have gone with a Himax 2025 type (175 watts)??!!

My Icon weighs 333 grams without battery (using TP 1320 at 88 grams).

JB642,
I'm sorry I can't find the info your asking ,I'll keep looking ,I wouldn't think it would be 175W. Your motor should be plenty unless it's your esc. I had more than enough power with the older century motor and would still be flying if my esc would of been at least 18A.

Hi Arnie -

If its the motor that comes with the 3D Pro I looked it up on Century's web site. Max amps 13.5 so its around 150 watts max power.

I'll try the ten tooth tomorrow and measure its power (using Eagle Tree Micro Logger)- too windy to fly the Icon here today!

Hello JB642,

Yeah I'll say it's windy ,I want to get out and try my Raptor after I made some head linkage adjustments to get it even more smoother. I saw the 13.5 figure on century's web site also didn't think to post that. 150W I'm ready with a 25A esc this time. I don't want this bird to go down anymore I fly the beltdrive the most I just feel more relaxed and push it more than my other helis having a ball.

wsilvio,
I sent a message to his son Carl through the icon contact form ,but didn't hear from him yet. Thanks for your concern.

Hello JLR228,
I see your from MI too and glad to have ya on board. Thanks for enjoying the beltdrive threads. I have enjoyed my kit very much as you can tell in my posts. I'm in the process of upgrading to the century outrunner motor it's installed and I'm waiting for the ESC which should be here by Friday so I can be in the air again and posting the results.

Hello Everyone,

Well I found the problem ,the throttle channel on the reciever is toast. I thought about it ,but the servos worked. After trying the new century esc and it didn't work there was nothing left to fault except the reciever. I used my Raptor reciever to confirm that.

I would not hold your breath on this guy...he has not answered me in several months!! Anyway go to helidirect they have the same thing!!
You can order right now, and have the benefits of gathering all the nessesary parts and upgrades to finish you heli. I think the best part is: they have a posted phone number and do answer it! Anyway<
good luck!

Juresti,

The reason why PJ at ICON hasnt answered is that he suffered a major stroke and is in the hospital.

For those of us waiting for our kits, PJ stopped answering emails long before he had the stroke. I ordered my kit back in March. He stopped answering my emails in May. I was never rude. I just dropped him a line every couple weeks asking for status on my order. For the first two months I got excuses and promises of delivery dates. When he stopped responding I got concerned. Now I guess I'll never see the kit.

At one point he told me he had a backlog of 33 kits. I wonder how many people actually got them? My guess is that it was only a few.

I ordered my kit in March also and received it the beginning of July. A long wait but worth it.......Hopefully PJ will recover and get the kits out.

It's too bad. It looks like the kits coming out now "borrow" heavily from PJ's designs. I got a kit, but I'm not sure I'll ever get repair parts if needed. But I guess the good news is I can always upgrade to the HD design fairly painlessly.

Any Updates on the ICON Belt Kit?

OK, I see all the people that did not get a refund or kits yet. I know that there were some health issues and problems, but how to get a hold of someone? I ordered and PAID in March 06 and had a few promises but to NO AVAIL. Anyone have an email address or any contact that works?? His Son's address?

Looks like the $$ is gone... no matter what happened, someone should have stepped in taken a look at his Paypal account. There most likely, are ALL the records of people who PAID for the kit and need refunds or product.

Anyone know what's up at this point? Kiss it goodbye?

Thanks

$ seems to be gone

I also ordered mine about the same time, about March and did not recieve either frame or refund. I do feel for the guy if he does have health issues but this isn't the first time I've seen someone collect $ from a bunch of people for an item he was producing/providing then some "issue" comes up where he/she can not deliver as promised and they just kind of dissapear with no feedback to the people who sent their hard earned money. Don't know what else to say other than I am now a bit disappointed to say the least in the lack of any communication from him or his family.

Guys - From RC Groups ICON forum - PJ passed away on August 7th after a stroke....JB

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...06&postcount=94
Just to let everyone know.

I received an email from a member here whom I had contacted concerning PJ's condition. I cannot verify anything first hand and am going entirely by word of mouth here, but was told that PJ passed away August 7th. My prayers are with his family.

There was a bit of discussion on runryder about some of the orders being filled by PJ's son recently but with PJ's death I am sure this has taken a backseat to other matters and what ever inventory he had originally may now be depleted.
