Thunder Tiger Raptors X50,30-90 - Imperio>Toki 40, TT39 and OS37 |
| meatbomber Senior Heliman | Hello Folks,I have a R30V2 with a TT39 in it. After i've done the needle Mod it's running quite good. Anyone compared the Toki40, OS37 and TT39 direct ? How do they compare power wise ? i'm not talking about handling (TT39 tamed ) but pure power how do they compare ?
Cheers

| pipo_blah | I got all three of them - os37, tt39 and toki 40 - and tried them also in the same ship a raptor 30v2.The toki definitely had a little bit more power of the 3 especially with the tuned muffle. But I prefer the OS37 and this the current engine I use in my raptor 30v2; It has enough power for me and I found it just a little but more reliable/smoother than the toki. Don't take me wrong the toki is really good engine and I still usee it in my .30/hawk. Never really got lucky with the TT39 so better no comments there

| meatbomber Senior Heliman | Thanks for the repiles guys !As for the needle Mod, do a search here and you find a lot of posts on this... basically you make the low speed needle more pointed thus increasing the fuel flow at low speed settings, after the needle mod you can get a very nice idle while still having a consistent mixture across the throttle range... it's a 3minutes mod and it helps the tuning so much... Well i guess between the OS37 and the Toki it will be the price then to decide
How difficult is the setup with a tuned muffler ? | ||

| colsy | Not owned an OS37, but have changed my Irvine 39 to a Air Supply 40 (TOKI 40), and am very happy with it, she's a right screamer the supplied pipe works very well, and represents excellent value for money..How difficult is the setup with a tuned muffler ? | ||

| spaceman spiff | I ended up doing a needle mod to my os 37. Was having trouble with engine surge, and weird stuff at certain throttel settings haven't flown it since the mod, hopeing for better results this weekend. Other guys i fly with have zero trouble with them, but mine....Interested in trying the Toki. Flew a TT39 last weekend, suprized to find it ran just fine.. was an older one, had been sitting around for a while, and was bought used so i don't know the history of it. Maybe someone had done the needle mod to it? | ||

| bmcgrady | I've tried all 3 in a Raptor 30v2... the Toki 40 with Toki Pipe, TT 39 with MPII, and OS 37 with MPII. The Toki and OS37 are both very close in power, but I prefer the OS37 myself. The only issue I ever had with my TT39 was that it was messier than the others as far as more fuel residue on the heli after flying. My next itch to scratch will be to try the OS37 with Toki pipe. I've heard mixed things about that combo, but am going to give it a whirl and see how it matches up. I don't think you'd necessarily go "wrong" with any of the 3... but my nod would be towards the OS37/MPII first, then the Toki 40/Toki pipe, and finally the TT39 with a good muffler or pipe. Just my .02...![]() | ||

| perfesser zero | Toki 40... I say you can't go wrong with a Toki 40 with the Toki pipe, but that's just my opinion. Mine has been great since I got it last summer. On the Hawk it's more than enough power. Instant power and it screams if I want. I'm still running a touch rich and it has all the power that I can use. I'm running it now about 1850-1900 rpm with the CF blades and yes I've installed the thrust bearing upgrade. Later...Tiger 50 - OS 50SX-H | ||

| wildstallionuk Key Veteran | Hi guys what an interesting thread, is there anyone that has tried the Toki40, TT39, Irvine 39ABC, and the OS37 I would be really interested to know how they all compare. Especially the Irvine since I have got one in my V2, I heard a rumour that my Irvine will not run well on higher nitro fuels I dont know how accurate that is, currently I only run on 12%. Not flown my blinged out Raptor for over a year now been to busy flying electric birds.Check out the items I have for sale in the clasifieds including a CSM 420 | ||

| MickeyMoo | I got a Toki 40 back in December for my R30. I have yet to fly it but I have been able to install the engine. Here are two things to watch for when installing the Toki in a R30. First the head will bump the frame before it is fully seated (the clutch is in the bell). To solve this simply cut about 4mm off the top cooling fin on the front of the head (carb side). Second the canopy will need to be cut a little to accommodate the muffler. The muffler that comes with the Toki is from what I have heard very good, but extends forward and bump the canopy without trimming. Hopefully I will be able to get out in the next month and check this engine out for myself. BTW this engine replaced my OS 32. The 32 has been a good engine but the power, especially in hot weather was only enough to fly. At times I had trouble getting the head spun up. | ||

| meatbomber Senior Heliman | My OS37SZ-H arrived last week and i put it in yesterday. The reengine took me only like 1 hour or so if you don't count the 5 hours it took me to get the fan of my TT39... took a while till i relized it was screwed on DUH Took it out to maiden and boy what a NICE RUNNING engine ! Fired up instantly and idled real well. Mixture was very very rich... after leaing her out a bit i did a couple of max power climb outs and performance seems quite a bit better than with the TT39. Did a few flips and other stationary stuff and yes it's bogable but power is good | ||

| Betofazzo | Good choice.. Hello there, well try to burn about 4 to 5 tanks and carefully lean out a litle at a time (one click), you always see a smoke coming out, ringed engines take a litle time to break-in because the ring is very hard, already have my O.S. 37, and i think to install in my raptor 30 very soon , i plan to burn 1 gallon for break-in (rich needle).Enjoy your new engine, happy fliying my friend..![]() I want a Turbine heli.. :) | ||

| PaulJC | The OS37 is a real power horse for its size, i use mine with an MP2 and it really sings, i think i've got my 2nd flight mode set to 18,250rpm which equates to a head speed of around 1910rpm and will pull +/- 9 degrees happily and if it does bog it will bog into the peak power point which is 18,000rpm | ||

| UAV Systems Senior Heliman | I agree Guys, Ive had lots of bad luck with a brand new TT39. Two con-rod failures later not to mention and numerous tuning problems, I decided to fit an OS37 with the CY muscle pipe. Problem solved. Power to spare. I'm doing 3D with no bogging down or issues. PS Ive been around the block with my Rappy and have decided to use my TT39 as a paper weight.
Gas or go home!
