I have a Mac G4 and a 21" apple flat screen...If no sims are available for macs, wonder if I could plug my apple flat screen into a regular windows laptop.

X-Plane is the best flight sim for the mac, although not as good as Reflex or G3,

mac heli sims

I just downloaded an rc heli sim for macs only out of europe. It's not fancy and you can test it before you register, only costs thirty euros. If you have a usb cord for your tx, any real tx, you can use it. The web address is www.alphamacsoftware.com I would appreciate any feedback and/or comparisons with the the major pc sims as my laptop is to lame to play any of them so I have no point of reference.

Mac just released Boot Camp which will allow those with Intel based Macs to run Windows XP.

I don't know if this will allow the installation of a flight sim on the Mac, but it seems possible or at least closer to possible.

Boot Camp is only workable on the latest Intel based Mac's, not
the G4 or G5 series.

Walt Mossberg writes in today’s Wall Street Journal that he ran Microsoft Flight Simulator (as well as 14 other Windows programs) on an Intel Mac booting in Windows (with Boot Camp) and it worked perfectly.
Who’s going to try Reflex first?

As of yesterday I have been running Reflex XTR on my MacBook. Running windows under Bootcamp is the answer for you Mac users. I find that it runs faster and with better graphics than on my Windows machine. Looks like there is finally a reasonable alternative for us. The only drawback is that it requires a Intel CoreDuo machine. Better yet, check out it out running on a 50" Plazma display in real time.

Thanks for the info Ron. Has anyone tried it with an Intel Mac Core Solo machine? Ie, the 1.42 Ghz Mac Mini. It also has an integrated video card (slower)so that could be a problem.

Should work OK, only without the hot graphics. I'm sure someone will post an answer for you real soon.

Reflex on Mac Mini

I´m running Windowx XP pro under Bootcamp on my MacMini 1,83 GHz with Intel CoreDuo prosessor. I reasently installed Reflex XTR, but when i try to start it i only get this massage, "no direct-3D-driver was found". Reflex works on a MacBook witch uses the same Intel GMA 950 graphics prosessor as the MacMini. Since the Reflex is working on a MacBook i would asume it would work on my MacMini too. Any ideas how i can solve this problem?

Don't know about Macs in particular but since in this case it is being used the same as a PC I guess this holds true.

When you install Windows XP on any machine it usually (if not always) installs a generic graphics driver. This works well enough to run windows but is not suitable to run DirectX based programs.

The message you are getting suggests this is the case.

What you need to do is to identify the graphics card and install the windows driver for that card.

Cheers,

Nigel

Just did a bit of research. Your graphics driver is one of these

Intel GMA 950 graphics processor with 64MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory

Details of the graphics card can be found here

http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/gma950/

You can download the driver from here

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-020683.htm

Although it looks like there are three different graphics drivers (depending on card) it looks like they are all downloading the same file - so any should do if you are not sure.

Don't expect sparkling performance. Memory is marginal. Being shared with main memory is bad. The processor itself probably isn't powerful.

Mac's way more power than the most powerfull pc ever,
and mac's has all major programs, and they give you the bootcamp, a solution for running pc programs while they create them for mac
