im sure this issue has been brought up before but cant seem to find the post. are the main shafts and main gears from the blade and the honeybee interchangable? if so wich is the strongest? every time my honeybee has a little crash or tip-over the main shaft gets bent..it just seems the shaft is to soft and my lhs only carries blade parts.

Honeybee stronger IMHO

I have a Blade CP and I have converted the entire head assembly and main shaft/gear to the Honeybee components.

I find the HB main shaft stronger and easier to replace. The head assembly is far tighter as well (it is a Bell-Hiller). I find that the prices are better too

The HB main shaft is stronger, that's fact not opinion. I was in the process of converting my BCP with the entire head and drive shaft from Esky but sold it before I did.

Niether one of them is hardened stell so they will bend, but the HB shaft is a little stronger. The nice thing about the HB is, you can replace just the shaft whereas the BCP you have to replace the shaft and gear because they're molded together.

murp,
can you list the parts required to convert to HB cp2 head?
I've been wanting to do this, but don't know which parts to get.
TIA.

I can't say for sure if it's longer but I do know the holes don't line up exactly the same. That's why I was going to just replace the whole thing head and all. I have seen people replace just the shaft and gear with the HB parts and the BCP head wouldn'r line up right.

The Esky shaft is longer/taller than the Blade CP shaft/gear. Putting the Esky head on also doesn't fix this, but is a "drop in" with the Blade shaft/gear and is a nice improvement (bell/hiller). The Hummingbird Elite main gear with seperate shaft is a "drop in" on the Blade if you just slide the pinion down on the motor shaft for gear alignment. It is probably better material than either the e-flite or esky piece. But not near as good as a hardened drill rod shaft. Happy Flying, Tom

Hi ECOHELI, I bend my Cp2 shaft and I try to put the Blade shaft/gear...
To make it work I would I to buy the rest of the Blade head because the Blade shaft if 1/8 shorter...

So I just order a Cp2 shaft instead..

Remark: The Blade gear is tinner and more fragile than the Cp2 but the
shaft look like the same..

As some one said to put a Hummingbird shaft: the blade main pinion is already more than the bottom end of the main motor so I doubt you can put this shaft... but with to Cp2 you can

And if you want a Cp2 main-shaft, I find only 2 places not back order:

rc-expert: 5$ + 15$(shipping) = 20$us

Hobbyjapan2000: 9$ + 5$(shipping) = 14$us

Part number: EK1-0266

Hey Evo here is what I got:

EK1-0229 - Rotor Head Set
EK1-0231 - Paddle Control Frame
EK1-0228 - Center Hub Set (the new type, it has a collar that slides over the center hub similiar to the blade, it is NOT the version that uses a short pin)
EK1-0244 - Main Blade Clamp Set (optional but worth it if you plan to use Esky Sym. Blades)
EK1-0234 - Push Control Link Set
EK1-0242 - Screw/Nuts & Washers (I think you may need this. I had quite a few pieces laying around so I didn't need to but you may want to pick it up just to be sure.)
Ek1-0238 - Main Shaft Gear
Ek1-0266 - Main Axis

That's it, your swash plate, servo push rods, and ring-like push rods from the Blade head are the same as the HB CP2.

I also have the DD tail mod, well worth it if you haven't already made the switch. (I use the CN12-RXC motor and 3020 prop, works great) I stopped using the HAS-002 tail fin and modded my Blade tail motor mount, far sturdier and a bit lighter

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.

Hi, I think that if you are ready to buy all those parts, you should

consider the all-alluminium-head at helidirect or rc-expert at 110$..

Why Al?

I think the Esky head is a better bang for your buck - save the extra money for spare blades and motors. The aluminum is for looks - save your money and upgrade from the blade once your skills have progressed - the Al head is like buying chrome rims for a tercel IMHO of course - cheers

Thanks alot, Murp.
I'm looking up for parts right now.

Helidirect doesn't have

EK1-0229 - Rotor Head Set
Ek1-0266 - Main Axis - nor balsapr. Can't I use Blade shaft/gear ?

ARGH!!!

I'm thinking about upgrading the shaft to Hummingbird - might as well do it as once... ???

to sure about this one!

More like putting a racing suspension to a already modify Honda ...

If you eventually want to have fun with brushless, etc..

Evo

EVO: You can use the Blade main shaft and gear no prob.

GSXR: I'm in the camp that going brushless with the Blade is a waste of money - get a better heli when you are ready for brushless, there are far better brushless helis (with geared tails etc.) out there compared to a franken-blade. Just my opinion of course - the Blade/HB CP2 is a great heli to learn on with inexpensive replacements parts. But I appreciate that some like to mod. the Blade to see how far they can take it.

Cheers all.

Hi Murp, if you put Blade shaft/gear on a Cp2 (I try it yesterday):

The parts fit but the main blade will start full negative-pitch throttle-stick down and zero-pitch full throttle-up... So it does not
work.

I think it`s important to know that the Cp2 start to work great when it turn brushless... if I knew better before spending double money on
stock brush-motor, I buy it before.

Now I am waiting for my Elite 3d Pro kit... I hope I did not order it
for notting because since a put the brushless, that will go in the Pro, in my Honey Bee Cp2, The Cp2 fly great.

Blade main shaft in HB CP2

Hey GSXR,

EVO is converting from a Blade to a HB CP2 head - I am using the HB CP2 main axis and gear in my Blade. You will have to move all your servo push rods to the top hole in the linkages (comes from the factory in the middle hole) and you may also have to extend the pushrods out a bit (change them all the same amount) until you get back to the pitch you are looking for.

The HB CP2 main gear has a lower profile spacer between itself and the underside of the body. As a result, the main shaft sits higher in the Blade CP than the stock one does. Pushing the whole head assembly up which translates into adding positive pitch (the servo push rods have not changed length and so the swash plate effectively moves down on the head assembly, which is exactly how the pitch is increased when you are flying). Moving the push rods to the top holes and lengthing them will allow you to bring the pitch back to the stock setup by moving the swash plate back up th ehead assembly to compensate for the higher position of the head assembly on the main axis.

GSXR, if you put the Blade main gear and shaft in the HB CP2 you will have the opposite problem - the pitch will go negative. There is no reason I can see to install the Blade main gear in the HB CP2 - it is weaker, the stock HB CP2 main gear and axis are superior.

EVO if you any questions let me know - I could post a picture if it would help you out. It is not nearly as complicated as I may have made it sound

Cheers.

Hi murp, I order a Cp2 shaft, but the reason I try the cp-shaft before

is because my LHS have those in stock...

Yes you are right about moving to a upper hole in the servo arm but when I think of that it was too late because I destroy the gear to see
if I can drill a hole on the cp-shaft and use it alone...

For now I wait a few day to receive my cp2-shaft or my Pro-kit...

Thanks

Thank you both.
I'll ask question if i have any problem.
The problem right now is parts. I think I'll just go with the blade shaft/gear (my tooth pick is stronger)

Woo hoo.
Ordered the parts from helidirect.
They finally have them in stock.
I didn't get the grip since I'm using BCP blades the Plasti-blade (It's on the way)
I'll be using cp2 gear and shaft. Do you have any diagram for the cp2 head?
