Just a couple of shots of a lucky break...
My son just touched the sofa cushion with the x400 blade tips, and the entire head, left for a different part of the room.
Absolutely clean break, and just a little crack on the blade tip.
This was the plastic hub from the t-rex, replaced with same for about $13.00 cdn. I can't imagine what the cost would have been if the hub had been metal....oh wait...yes I could...$$$$$$$!!!!!!

i hope you know if you had the trex blade grips and did that those wouldve snapped instead.

the trex blade grips i think are designed to snap in the middle as well as the hub with that hole in it. it saved me $10 last crash though

. i crashed, the blades sheared off at the grips (perfectly undamaged). drivetrain was undamaged, just a bent the flybar.

Yup, we're running the x400 grips, with spacers, only because we can't find sockets locally small enough to get into the spindle nut. Probably haven't looked really hard yet tho.
...I do like the concept of the plastic being a "fuse" per 'Terry' as we both are pretty green to this addiction, but once the learning curve starts up-hill I'm sure we'll up-grade.

Waiting on the warmer weather...so I can put my furniture back where it belongs, maybe even do less damage outside...?.

yup, the plastei boke on me...and the wodden blades didnt even get a screatch...

now i have to fork out $'s to replace from the swash up....pretts crappie if you ask me...

i run an all metal trex head except i still use the plastic head and grips. the last time i used a metal hub the screw snapped inside the hub and i couldnt drill it out so i had to throw the entire hub away = sucks.

on the up side, the ark metal head doesnt have this problem because the seesaw bolts go into the seesaw rather than the hub

.

i want the grips and hub to snap and hopefully thatll be the only damage. those cheap 3k plastic hub and grip set only costs $6!!! that's better than replacing the whole head.

other option would be to buy the 4 pack of grips for $10 and standard hub by itself costs $5

I do have an all metal RED head, but I do use the Trex plastic blade grips.
At 4 grips for 10 bucks, can't go wrong.

to be honest...
if you have the plastic hub..anything you touch, it will break
ive found that even if you dont touch anything its almost 100% you will break it even in midair!!

I broke two heads this weekend. A T Rex head on my MX400 and a T Rex head on my T Rex. Both were plastic, both were due to my dumb thumbs and in both cases nothing was hurt except for one flybar control arm.

I was considering an upgrade to metal and I still might but I think I will stick with the plastic head. Cheap insurance.

Hey EZ..
I'm with you....my LHS has enough trouble keeping supplies for us
numb-thumb newbies, let alone the experienced bashers, so if I can
limit the number of replacement parts I need, I may have a better choice.
I've got to get a bunch better before I go to pretty-up the bird.
Mind tho, I'd like to have the nice tight fit of cnc metal, but the thought of replacement when I do something goofy turns me off.
That's just my $.02 cdn worth.
