Well, my Hornet isn't exactly stock if that says anything.

I didn't want to glue anything, so I was upgrading before I ever flew it (tail servo/fin mounts and gear box).
Lack of ball-in-swash lead me to 2 alum swash upgrades (1 before I ever flew it).
Flexible servo tray and sloppy linkages lead to Duzi servo mounts and B/H.
Crazy multi-piece feathering spindle that I couldn't keep strait lead to a Duzi head with 1-piece spindle.
Walt's tail drive to try to tame the wags.
Polished off the Duzi line with the Axi-set just for the heck of it.
Even trying to talk Martin into offering a whole Duzi tail set ($180 package?).

I won't say it hasn't been fun evolving my Hornet, but it has been insanely expensive. It flew ok mostly stock, but this was to be my main or only machine so I did what it took to satisfy me. Though it might be on the heavy side now at 14oz (nearly 400g) AUW.
I've thought about the MaxiR SE if only for curiosity sake and had the money to try it.
But I've been thinking about getting a Blade CP just to have something cheap to throw around more often and shake my winter cob webs off with.

I dont know. I keep hearing that the hornet sucks! And I must say i have had a similar history as captein chaos. Ive never flown it without bling. got ridd of all glue parts at once, but its by far not maxed out. Built and tested for months until it was to my satisfaction (tons of broken parts even before i had it in the air). Its also my most international belonging, apart from my passport! with parts from Canada, both coasts of the USA, Vietnam, Korea and several countries around Europe!

But I love my hornet2/3dx! Ive got a Trex going through the same building prosess as my hornet, And its getting really to my satisfaction now, but still it spends to much time on the shelf with dust on. The only time i fly my trex xl is when my hornet is down and i am waiting for parts.

As for Blade cp, my third bird is a mothed honeybee 2 or something like that. its really cool for indoor flying as an FP. But for outside and in gymhall size flying i dont fancy a machin with 2 motors....

The maxir seems like a sweet machin, but mabye in the future, for now i am sticking with my three birds, with my Hornet as my MAIN bird!!

I believe, very much!!:D:D

Ok, let's get some things straight first....

The design of the MS rotor head is known as a flapping hinge design it my memory is correct... It's different from the Duzi head or the Trex head.. or the Zoom head or the MaxiR head which uses a spindle to hold 2 blade grips to the hub, ....In the case of the stock Hornet head... both blade grips would flap independently.think I saw another flapperhead on the old kyosho ep concept...

.. I never fully understood its advantages...

I've not really had a problem with the gluing of servos, 'cept I can't remove the servos when i want to (Shoe-goo!) now....

I'm pretty much back to the stock setup except for the rudder servo mount.... FOund a faster way to repair the tail section using the old stock plastic gB... and compared to the mH gB upgrade, the stock one seriously has less high frequency vibrations with new bearings in place.

Other than that I really hate the wobbly huge gear that the x3D is still using...

The only advantage of the Hornet that it has over the maxiR frame is that it can be converted for belt drive without changing the whole frame...

But that's about it. And let's face it... Parts still are more expensive than MaxiR's. Downtime for repairs on a Hornet I can imagine are a nightmare still, for some of us...

I can't for once imagine why MS composit won't want to do anything about the competition that it faces on the hornet line from the up and coming A-Plus helis.... or the MaxiR

Just suck it up and buy another kit for parts! Mine is mostly stock X-3D and I really like the way they fly, so I'm staying in the Hornet game for now, I like they way it looks next to my T-Rex and Raptor 50! Eric

Its a great heli - mine has worked superbly since day one and flys far better than its size would suggest.

Hi,

I am pretty pleased with my X3D. I had a slight vibration running it up with only the main gear, shaft and head attached. Although I tried a new shaft and main gear it was still doing it so gave up and assembled the rest.

I got it all running smoothly and gave it a test flight without even balancing the tail or main blades (impaitant ) and was really suprised how stable and smooth it was normally your fighting with the controls too keep micros in one place for 5sec.

Have added a few of the MS blue upgrades, mainly to do away with gluing parts and, I wanted the head as I didn't really want to start filling up the stock head with glue or shoe goo stuff.

It flies alot better than my H2.

Simon.

I'm happy with my X3D. The price of replacement parts makes me sometimes wonder if I'd been better off with a Trex, but the reality (for me) is that that I really like the smaller sized heli's. The X3D is amazingly stable for it's size (touchy-yes, but stable). If it gets too expensive I may get something cheaper to train with, but I really like the X3D and can't imagine ever parting with it.

My X3D has a wicked head vibration on spool up, it dances around a bit and then smooths right out, It has been there thru several repairs so I don't worry about it, it is glassy smooth when flying and also very sensitive. Eric

Your tracking it out slightly, husafreak. Doesn't take it being out by much at all to cause violent shakes during spool-up and spool-down. Sometimes less than a full turn on your linkage so you have to unscrew it completely and try to screw it back on cross-threaded. It's very sensitive to tracking and likes it to be absolutely perfect, especially with the slopless Duzi components.

Yeah. I've noticed the tracking adjustment is very sensitive, maybe I can find a finer pitch thread to use also. eric

The blade grips must be equally tight as well, but not overly-tight.... Lead and lag blade issue is damn sensitive on the hornet 2.....

After some digging I'm going to completely do dynamic balancing again... get it 100% smooth... then 3D the heck out of it till my next crash.....

Just stuck on some HS-50s cos one of my 55's conked out... on the shortest horns... by eye, everything looks okay..... I've posted this thread on Hornet forum as well.... anyone knows how to CA the brass inserts in the head?

I love my little X-3D

Had fun building it and love the guys at MS CompositUSA. I think highly of them.....Heck I d probably fly the heli if I hated it...Good Guys...But to my point. I really like it, yeah it is a micro for sure....I changed my anti-rotation quide, went with a 2mm aluminum rod and ran it to the frame top, through the existing holder and made indent in top of frame using the proper length of the 2mm aluminum, I made it stronger. Less high head speed oscilation from swash movement. I like the little machine ...Hey, its little. I ve actually only flown mine 3 full charges but that was worth my money. It is so cool to play with. I m selling it now LNIB over in EVERYTHING ELECTRIC CLASSIFIEDS for 300 shipped RTF almost half what I paid for it....only because I wouldn't mind a blade CP or one of those sitting around...but such a cool little machine needs played with and admired, Nice craftsmanship...PEACE OUT

Ap is GOOD, AV is Better ...Getting Paid to Fly is BEST !
