As far as i know there all made by protech and marketed under those different names in various countries. Zoom, Zap, Dolphin, Shogun and i think there's another.

I think it's also marketed as a Walkera 35. All seem to be made from the same designs but I'm not sure that the quality is the same from one bird to another. I would stick with the Protech Zoom/Shogun marketed by Global Hobby here in the states.

Zoom, Shogun, Dolphin and Zap are all the same machine from the same chinese factory, just different stickers and instruction books so far as I know.

I think the Walkera 35 is a clone from a different factory, but I might be mistaken.

Zoom SE is way cheaper but is also not actually a Zoom.
Its a knock off and not made by Protech.
Exactly the same design except for the belt drive which is naturally a good thing
Zoom is a proven flyer, but I havent really read much on peoples experiences with the SE.
I have bought parts made by the company that make the SE, and although the metal work was fine (not in the same class as Microheli or Heliup), the bearing quality was terrible.
So if you get one make sure all the bearings move smoothly, and if not replace them with better quality ones.
Thats my 2 cents

If you bling it, they will come :D

Wingspan,

If you have other Shogun pilots around to help you get it set up the stock Zoom will fly just great right out of the box--despite what some of the detractors over at the T-Rex forum might say!

Just kidding guys, I love the T-Rex too!

You might want to go with a Shogun-V2 as a beginner, just because the belt drive can take more of a beating than the shaft in the V1. That aside, they're both good. Two other things are smart to buy if you're just starting out in helis--training gear and a simulator. These two items will save you hundreds and hundreds of $$$ in crash repair parts--and in down time!

Good luck either way,
smokin

Wingspan,
It just as Smokin says; buy a stock Shogun ($129 is the current going price) and it absolutely positively flys right out of the box. No, it's not beautiful, but it doesn't need to be until you get the hang of flying a heli. Stock parts prices are much, much less than hop ups.
BTW, get some extra main blades and tail blades, and stick with the sock main foam blades; when those strike the boom at least they don't bend it.
Bill.

There is another clone named "Black hawk" selling in Hong Kong cost ~$100 USD, including all metal parts. --swash, blade grip, flybar, washout, belt drive pinions, and ccpm as well. The tail rotor gear box, pitch slider are plastic.

I am not sure if I am allowed to post the link here.

Actually your wrong there.
www.protech.be (think thats correct.
They are a German company and are the REAL designers/makers of the Shogun/Zap/Zoom.
RC Mart are a reseller, they dont make any of those.

If you bling it, they will come :D

It is made from Taiwan. T-REX and Shogun and Z-400 and GWS products are all from Taiwan! And Taiwan is not China! Thanks!

Your right technically. Only difference is that the Shogun/Zap/Zoom is DESIGNED by Protech, made for them in Taiwan.

If you bling it, they will come :D
