My Razor motor was getting a little too warm for my tasts, so I took my 400DH out of another helicopter to try in the 3DPro. I can't get more than 2000 rpm out of it. I've read that people use an 8t pinion with 3s. I'm running: 400DH, 8t pinion, CC25, High governor (tried it on fixed as well), TP 3s-1320. Thanks

8 tooth is way to small I think.
Almost the same motor as the 400DF, different amount of magnets is all as far as I know.
Anyway, people using the 400DF were using a 15 tooth pinion and getting 3000 on the head.

The DH is a 4000-4400 kv motor, the DF is 3000, I have a airpower 400dh that is the same specs as the JGF 1 and i get 3200+ with a 10t pinion

Thanks, I had thought that people were useing the 8t with 3s. I'll see if I can find a bigger pinion.

Geeo, is everything running cool with the 10t and what flight times are you getting?

I found a 10t pinion, it sounds and feels better. But, I still can't get above 2700rpm at 0 degrees of pitch.

Kong, have you got the JGF motor or a knock off of their design?
They all call them a 400DH or DF, but performance does differ.
Some may well perform as well, but here in Oz I have heard of some 400DH that are pathetic.
2700rpm is nothing to be sneezed at though lol. Just try an 11 tooth pinion if you can find one.
Trial and error my friend. More on the error side for me lol

the Airpower 400DH runs cool, flight times on a kokam 1250 are about 8-9 mins, but that's been with 255 hornet blades that are pretty inefficient.
Yesterday i had 6 glorious minutes on my stretched boom, trex 397t belt and trex 305 woodies, until my shoddy workmanship caught up with me

(didn't tighten the tail gearbox up and belt slipped = piro into ground and a broken blade).

I agree that 2700 rpm is nothing to sneeze at, but it wont hold more than about 2400rpm at full pitch, 10 degrees. At 2450 rpm, the helicopter just feels like a dog. I originally had the Razor v2 and a TP 3s-730. I know the pack is on the small side, but I hadn't bought a 1320 pack yet. With this combination the climb performance was pretty good, but the motor was getting too warm for my tastes and the motor and battery were so light that I couldn't get the CG right. The 400DH weighs 20 grams more and the 1320 is 36 grams heavier than the 730. If you do a headspeed calculation, I should be getting more rpm.

4200 * 11.1 * 0.85 * 10/140 = 2830 rpm

I was wondering what you guys were getting, as it seems that most people are happy with this motor. So far, I'm not impressed. I think I'll contact JGF and see what they think. (The motor was bought directly from them, albeit a while a go. I just hadn't installed it in anything else before. Maybe it's past its sell by date.)

Pardon my reviving an old thread, but I was pointed at this by T.J. Kong for comment. 8T on Shogun and 9T on T-Rex are what most are running. You purchased this motor over a year ago and having stated you ran it hot, you could have demagnetized some of the magnets, or at least taken the poop out of them. Consider buying a new bell to revive the motor. In the early days of this motor ESC's did not properly match the timing for outrunners and as a result generated heat. Our ESC's and many current ESC's no longer run outrunners hot. So hopefully you'll get two years out of the new bell.

Just for clarification, my 400DH has never run hot and it sat unused until February of this year. I am planning on using the motor in a scale project that I have not had time to complete. It had less than a half hour of use when I installed it in the 3DPro. The Razor was getting to approximately 120 degrees in about 3-4 minutes of use during cold weather. Not wanting to worry about overtemping the motor, I replaced it with the 400DH.
