Very nice! Headspeed was 1800? I am guessing 1800 since it looked like 30 frames/sec video and the blades were stationery.

Look forward to some 3D flight video!

Thanks

here some data from today in the evening by vertical climbing

8,5° pitch 1940rpm, starting with 1860rpm from hover
but that to much rpm for the Cuatro, tail is shaking up and down and fuel foaming during hover not in flight, so we went to
10° pitch and got 1760 rpm, starting with 1630rpm from hover

we have 800mm BBT main blades, all with muffler no pipe, fuel don't know exactly could be a 1:20, in inverted I didn't see rpm changing, so it could be well without going rich and no regulator needed

motor needs 130°C to run fine in a nova during flight, outside 27°C max temp 155°, at 600m sealevel, this is from the fun fly on the weekend

here in Vienna we have near 300m sealevel and it looks we are running colder in our Cuatro, but not sure, Friday some more tests with temp measure

Thanks 3DPP. Great information. I have found my Cuatro to be happiest at about 1700 - 1750 headspeed.

PLEASE take some video with sound - I would be curious to see how it does in fast tic-tocs.

he he with 6,1kg the tic tocs will not be that fast

we have all the time very windy contitions, so it's hard to get a well sound, in that way may be it needs some time.

Think also 1700 is a very good rpm for the Cuatro.

did you have any issues with air bubble in the fuel line when @155C(311F)? With my 91i I start seeing air bubbles at about 280-290F and above 320F engine power starts to decline. Hey, if @600 ASL you got to 155C I shouldn't complain any more, I am at 1100 ASL using a Raptor 90 airframe (bad cooling).
I have ordered a Cuatro with Owens Turbine conversion but I plan to run it with the 91i first just to compare cooling systems.

didn't see the fuel line in Claus Nova at this temp, he has a RDS4 telemetry system and I looked during flight, he was never near enough and for sure I will not go in that near of the copter to see this.

From the Cuatro we know nothing on temp, because Phillip and I, we will test him first like one which do not gauge temp, we will set him up well and then will have a look. Or may be it comes not to the point to have a look. But then we know the motor isn't usable for 3D and other hard power stuff and we go back to the 91 nitro.

I have not much experiences with the 91, because he is to powerless for my stuff and I do not use him, also do not use the 150i, this Phillip want to do, because of every day flying and keep costs down by fuel.

My future is 14 or 15S Lippo's in my MP-XL-E which runs to time on 12S FP.
After 15 years nitro copters, I take an out time from smell and loudness.

3DPP,

I get some large and slow tic tocs out of my Webra 91 Nitro so, the 150 gas ought to be easy!

I eagerly await the video! What is the engine weight by the way?

Never ever while in the air
I check for air bubbles after I land and heli is at idle. It is then that I see the air bubbles going towards the carb and causing it to rev up and down.
Is it possible for you to tell us hover throttle so I can compare it to my 91i? with my current set up, I am @65-70 throttle at hover.

oh yes at idle , I will have a look if that happen with the bubbles.
Idle and all idle up curves were more higher at the 91i as now with the 150i, same carb but complete different characteristic.

if it is not raining in the afternoon Phillip has time for the video

with 175°C some small bubbles but motor did run fine, as we leaned him out and made him really hot that he start sputtering and we had to come down, some more bubbles but motor did run on idle, we rich him up and up in the air again.

sharam
sorry 3D wasn't possible, because the tail under load went beside, so that we didn't feel comfortable with the copter for 3D stuff. But some Tic Tocs inside for you. Tomorrow we will have a look for the tail.

here a 2,5 min trailer

Very impressive, 3DPP. That engine sounds quite happy during those tic-tocs. Quite impressive. I might just want to install one of these in my Cuatro. Thanks a lot for posting the video.

3DPP, what do you think about the new 150 HC glow engine from Webra? It has some very impressive specs. Perhaps I should install one of those in my Cuatro?

sharam,
the 150 nitro is for sure more uncritical from temp as the gas under hard 3D load, but I think it is not easy to start that engine in nitro.

3DPP, How about using 10% - 15% nitro and loosening the plug until the engine starts?

I can imagine with such a large engine, starting would be difficult.

sharam,
every start loosening plug? There I would prefer to have a look for a gear for the starter.
Or go with the gas because the price different is only 20 euro, as I saw it at RC-Market web site under news.

3DPP, thanks for the link.

I agree, a geared starter is the answer but for now, since starting such a monster engine will be a monumental task, I figure if I just fly the heli once in a day, I would not mind loosening the plug!!

By the way, what new parts are necessary on the Cuatro to use either the 150 HC or 150i engine? Engine mounts? Change in pinion? Change in main gear? Anything? Thanks in advance.

sharam,
You need new motor mounts for the larger motor block.
Webra has made some motor mounts for the Nova, which fits the Cuatro too, may be they sell them, but may be it is possible to distance the original one and the new holes shouldn't be the problem.
The special motor nut to mount the clutch, in M8.
Gearing I would say 1:8,2, Phillips 7,57 is to short.
Phillip is searching for an other main gear ratio.
