Glad to see another one take to the sky. This photo of mine was taken a few weeks back on an unusually nice day. I have a couple of adjustments I need to verify before mounting the fuse on mine as well.

Hi Guys:

Totally turned on by the Chinook, and planning on building one in Several Mos. Getting comfortable with my Trex at the moment.

What battery system are you using for the setup? Are you using LiPo's, a BEC, or what considering the 7 servos.

Assume you're using a 4 cell batt for 4.8 V as suggested by Futaba.

4-5 flights on one charge sounds good to me. I'm happy with 1 10 Min Trex flight with a TP2100 LiPo. I have 2, but it's still 1 Hr to charge. I'm not sure a LiPo will add much tech advancement here, as it'll need a BEC to bring it to the proper Voltage. And were not talking much time difference,re total flying time and reliably!!

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I run a Duralite 4000 li-ion pack and regulator, 6x Futaba 9252's and a 9254 on the throttle. I also put a Hyper motor in it.

Can you say "OVERKILL"?

4K MaAh LiPo is an overkill, but totally reliable for all day flying!

What regulator are you using? Off hand do you know the approximate peak load on the system? A series regulator is simple enough at minimal cost---No 'overkill' LOL

I'm planning a similar '47' set up later this year.

I recently built a hirobo CH-47. Only at the hovering stage with flying.

Would love it if you could post another video to show how this thing can really fly. From your gallery pictures, it looks like you've really got the helo flying and I think alot of people would love to see the Chinook really fly.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I'm going to have a new video out here in about two weeks! I've got the body painted and am having a start shaft problem. The Hex on the motor keeps slipping and I had to get a Higher Torque starter to turn over the motor without loosening up the glow plug.


I'm in the proccess of moving to the High Desert of Southen California, so I haven't had as much free time to work on it. I'll be in Cali on the 27th Of May 2006.

Great, looking foreward to your video.

Also, wondering what you ended up doing with the blades.

I started with the Hirobo Woodies, trashed the first set and so for almost $200, bought a second set. I just dinged one of them due to a hot start.

Did you find a good alternative to the Hirobo blades or do you think they are the ones to go with?

I am building hirobo tandem (ch47). Looks like front shaft is to short. i am hitting the limits with mechanical guide pin for swash plate during deflection at high collective. anyone hit similar problem?

LOOKS GOOD!

My question is how good would this machine be for electric conversion? I have had many glow scale machines and glow is a mess and it ruins the finish no matter how careful you are. With the powerful electrics we have these days it seems to me that fitting it with a powerful motor should be doable.

What say you?

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		I have flown tandem today. nothing spectacular due to high and gusty wind. I am excited anyway.

The problem with main shaft i resolved during collective pitch settings. seems like my front pitch links are shorter than specified 37mm in the manual.
in the manual also fan shroud is supported from both sides, mine is only one side supported, no hole from the right side.

tandem flies nice!

If I could afford the CH-47 (maybe next year), I would go for it. After seeing up close and personal the size and action of Darrell Sprayberry's e-Huey and considering other e-Heli's that lift video equipment, I believe it would add more realism to a CH-47. Not to take away from the topic at hand, but could you imagine your scale CH-47 sounding like this?

It's a great model but you don't see a lot of people really wringing it out (granted at >3k, it's a bit risky but it would be great to really see the helo fly).

I would like anybody's input as to any obvious idiot traps with regards to the gyro set-up & general hovering charicteristics, any tips for blade tracking six rotor blades at once would also be nice.
I will also be getting it videoed for your viewing pleasure later.

Hirobo RAF pre-painted Chinook kit, with antenna set, TRSV-mixer, Hatori pipe, OS50 Hyper, Six Futaba 9252 servos, one 8700G servo on the throttle, TJ pro governor, JR R900 RX, Duralite 4000mah 5.3v regulated system, plus a Hirobo 3 axis gyro.......that's it!

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		The only flight trap which i hit was gyro sensor mounted to stiff and causing strong servo inputs inducing vibration. i mounted it like futaba gyro - soft sponge/steel plate/soft sponge. silky smooth now.
i tracked blades staticly on the bench at half collective at choosen azimuth. all blades seems to work fine in flight.
lift off is still tricky - yaw and cyclic input is needed to lift off straight. but it is manageable.
also it flies like tilted backward. that was confusing me at the begin.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Well the flight went very well this morning, no wind, heli lifted into the classic tail down hover, not bad.

The head speed was very low around 1200rpm, a bit wobbly but ok, this is where the problems started, when I tried to increse the headspeed to above 1400, the gyro would start some kind of dance with the swash plates, I removed the blades performed another run & again the same thing.

Following that I removed the gyro from the heli & placed it on the ground the servo dance stopped, I'm now going to try the metal plate idea & see how it goes, of course I altered the AILE, RUDD, & ELEV GY AMP values from 195 down to 50 and there was no difference.

Any other inputs would be appreciated.
