Will it ever get ready??

Ok, I am a little disappointed . This tread started in january and by that time the Helicommand was claimed to be ready for shipment by april, then they said by mid may and then again that it would have been the end of may and now (I have order one) I mailed Robbe to ask delivery time and was replied mid June! Looking at things as they are I would not be much surprised if in the mid of june they will posticipate again.
I would understand such a delay by a small company not by Robbe.

Torsten

I think you are probably right, but as final customer it's not of my interest to know what's behind, if a big and serious company promises a date of delivery I take that for real.
Anyway I was replied again by Robbe that the mid june date should be the definitive one.

Looks like real competition for Spartan and FMA!

Test sounds impressive...

Either the google translate function is a bit dodgy or that review smells as fishy as the contents of Baldricks apple crumble.

Does it say that he, a beginner, went test flying this thing in 40mph wind and it held position perfectly. He then flew perfect circles for a while and landed nose-in ?.

Does it do anything at all to assist on the collective ?.

Maybe it can do all this, but I think I'll wait for Torsten to give it a try.

Torsten : how come this guy got one before you ?.

heli command

you are right though with your comments on the fishyness... Just stirring things up a little.

It is indeed curious that someone like torsten didn't get his hands on first...

Nevertheless, still very curious about its qualities.

KP,

These kind of reviews are often quite funny - I just worry that people believe them. I remember the original FMA co-pilot ad. Now that made me laugh.

I'm curious too : as I understand it, the system is not position-hold at all. It simply tries to stop movement - so if it drifts then it doesn't come back.

If the guy was using the little electric as in the first video, can you imagine the bank (or pitch) angle needed to hold it against a 40mph wind ?.

Lets see what Torsten come up with .....

and I am still waiting for my test sample from Robbe.

just send a mail to the product manager and am waiting reply. last info from the 16th of may was that they were waiting for a whole new software update. so far no product on the german market.

Mr. Welter, owner of Aerotec Helicopters, is the Captron representative for the pro version.

http://www.captron.de/com/navigate/frms_01.htm

Captron is the manufacturer and Robbe has the sales for the hobby version, Aerotec the sales for the Pro version.

the hobby version is very small, the pro version looks like 2/3 coke can cut in half. holds a hover up to 30 feet high and has a barometric altitude hold function. price around the 3000 $ range what i heard. Captron is also working on the gps module. but in that price range i would go with the CARVEC.

so far i have seen the pro version fly on Mr. Welters Comeback, but only in a low hover on a parking lot. at the time (about 4 weeks ago) there was still the old software in the system and every once in a while the system produced a glitch in conjunction with the JR / Graupber MC 24 TX. the unit was originally configured for futaba RC. and i think that when i read between the lines in the info i got that is where the hold up came from. works like advertised with futaba, but has glitches with JR and PCM / SPCM

as soon as i have my test sample it will first go on the little old LMH 110 , just to be on the safe side. on the other hand if it can handle that little fixed pitch heli with its wrotten flight characteristics then it should be fine in the logo 20 photohelis as well.

i´ll keep you all updated asap

John,
What is your beef about the co-pilot, I am curious?

I have one, and I am quite impressed with it. The only negative I have to say about it is that it doesn’t have a physical switch dedicated for the setup and programming function. The sequential button pushing can get confusing especially when you use the same buttons to interrogate every flight.

I am not trying to rain on the parade of this Heli Command device but why do you need such a complicated and expensive system that only works 9ft off the ground? If you just took the Co-pilot or this AP2000i system and added a beacon detection circuit, the heli could trim the pitch and the roll axis to move towards a beacon. In the case of a failsafe it would come back to the beacon no matter where it was or what direction the tail was pointed.

Ace,

I have no beef with the co-pilot at all : it is a really useful tool to help get the heli level if you lose orientation.

Did you ever see the advertisement for the original co-pilot ?. It went on about 'holding the heli level like it was on a taught string between the centre of the earth and outer space'. It then went on to say how you could 'put the transmitter on the floor and it would hover the helicopter in one place until it ran out of fuel'.

I personally hate advertising which pretty much lies about a product to con people into buying it.

Lets see how the helicommand holds up to the promises !.

Your idea with the beacon sounds interesting : are you going to have a go to make one ?. The problem I see is that you could not just fly around : you would need to move the beacon to where you want it.

Locking position at only 3 feet is a 'Toy'.

Being able to 'hold altitude' and 'position hold' through GPS is a SERIOUS TOOL and should never be compared to a IR device, whether price or performance. Men vs. boys.

Actually you can turn the radio off and it will go into failsafe but you have to have the failsafe condition set for hover or a notch above. No matter what system is used for stabilization there will be a requirement for understanding it, setting it up and setting the mechanical functions of the heli. If someone thinks they can make a complicated autopilot system plug and play that anyone can use they are dreaming.

John, isn’t the flybar system the stabilizer for wind? Mine hovered pretty stationary in the wind when I got it set right. Nothing affordable is perfect.

I don’t have the electronic know how to mix in a signal from a beacon to the co-pilot but I am sure there are people out there that do. The beacon would only be used in a panic situation to get the heli back home after you lost it. Turned off in normal use and automatically activated should a failsafe occur. Adding collective for an ir sensor system would be a no brainer if vertical sensors are used. As the heli desends it gets closer to the ground where the heat source is so it would just add collective as it sees more heat. You would have to choose what elevation you wanted to hover at.
