Robbe HELICOMMAND 3A

This is what I just received from Robbe in Germany. I asked for a copy of the instruction manual.

we did not finished yet the instruction manual, because the delivery time for the HeliCommand will be end of April. Please contact me again about End of March, then the Englisch Version will be available.

I saw that video too.

I don't think it can hold position - but rather it tries to stop any movement. I wonder if you have to carefully trim the unit too for it to work effectively.

They are flying it over some perfect terrain (lots of 'lines' on the grass for it to see) and a low height and it is still drifting - so I don't think it will work very well at higher altitudes or over a less than ideal surface.

Also, I don't think I ever had a flying day with so little wind that I could leave the collective pitch like that (mind you, I do live in the UK).

Finally, I don't think the 3-axis gyro is going to work too well on anything other than an electric when mounted like that on the tail boom.

When will you be testing a unit Torsten ?. I hope you can bring it to the UK with you.

John,

a Robbe man told me to call again mid March for a sample of the PRO unit.

So I´ll try next week to remind them.

I´ll strap it to my little brushless LMH 110 and see if it can handle that. If it works on that then it should do a lot better on e "real" helicopter.

the movement in the video is not really any better that the old videos from the Vario / HAL 2000 unit, and that was a nice try, nothing more.

I dont think it will hold position for us to work with. maybe the gyros will at least hold it level ?

I suspect you are right there,if the unit is using an imaging device for referencing I wonder whether it is using similar methods to what some auto focus cameras use, should that be the case..wait until those blades of grass are flowing in the wind!! or there is so much movement that a fixed contrast is unavailable for reference!!
Of course I will reserve judgement until it's proven but I would also reserve the right to keep my hand on the sticks!!

Torsten,

I imagine it will work like a HH gyro in the X/Y axis - no long term stability, but handles short term movements. I suspect it will try to hold the angle you leave it at rather than actually level anything. It might be OK on an electric mounted down there on the tailboom - but if it works reliably with the vibration on a gasser, I'll go buy a hat and eat it. 10 degrees on a HH gyro isn't noticed so much - but if your heli does it in pitch or roll you'll spot it very quickly!.

Oyley - good point with the wind blowing the grass!. I wonder if it is using the same type of technology in my mouse.

As you say though - all judgement reserved until Torsten puts it through it's paces ...

You more than most will appreciate that with this type of product there is always as with most things going to be the 'pound v performance' issue. This type of product ( depending on price) and correct me if I'm wrong may only appeal to a limited number of flyers and I would suspect mainly aeriel photography/video operators.
Every heli has to have items such as engine, motor, gyro, blades to fly but not all helis will have a stabilisation system and as such will limit the amount of development and of course cost of such a product.I realise that a gyro's were not an initial requirement to fly(and unavailable) some years ago to fly and once introduced development moved on at a pace so it remains to be seen as to when we reach this stage:-

Potential buyer to guy in shop...'What do I need to buy to get this in the air then?'...Answer...Well you need the kit,Engine, muffler, blades, receiver battery, etc, etc,oh yes and this gyro/flight stabilisation device...Reply..Do I really need that last thingy?..Answer Oh,yes..nobody flys without one of those nowadays and if they attempted to,I would be a rich man !!

"Ortsfest bis ca. 10 m Flughöhe"

Looks like 10 mts are the maximum effective altitude for this device. enough for those who want to learn flying helis but for such altitude a Pole system looks more adequate.

looks nice

The Pro-version is IMO quite comparable to the Carvec-System without GPS-Module or even better equipped. It has inertial sensors plus 2 optical systems for postioning up to 10m (better than nothing))and built-in altimeter for hight-control. The Carvec core doesnt have these additional features. So if the price is right....
GPS and magnetic sensors will be available too as add-on.

Hi guys,
I have been following this discussion with great interest. Been quiet for a while, any new news? Official or personal reviews and experiences? Confirmed pricing/availability of both main versions? Any new info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Great thanks for the updated release date. Hope this won't be a typical Robbie launch that ends up being 6 months later than expected.

Torsten I know you await the pro version, but have you been able to get your hands on the hobby version at all? If so please share.

Any more in depth details/specs/functionality of the Pro version?

Pricing still look the same?
Hobby - $500 US
Pro - $2980 EURO

Thanks
Darren
