Again

The thing is, the pictures ar a little to small to see it in perspective. Just look carfully at them and there will be no problem. Worst case, you have to take it appart, and do the servo's again. Well, this way you learn how it's working pretty quick ;-)

If I remember correctly, one of the pictures in the manual is wrong. Actually, it migh t just be the US manual. If you want, I will send you pics of my bird to make sure you get it right. Send me your email address.

Servo's

Thanks Henry, but i've sorted it out. Only turning the servo with the frames mounted together looked more like a puzle.

One of the pictures in the US manual showed a servo in the wrong position.

the above link is to my build pics...i agree, its confusing but if this is the first kit i built, well it aint that bad...

you can click on the small pics for big ones...i followed the instructions that "Harld" translated, so the pics follow the instructions...

The only BooBoo i did was the tail blade ball...i later moved it to the other side...this was after i hovered and found the travel was more one way than the other...so i changed and now both ways the same...

let me know if anyone "liked" the pics...and they are free to use if anyone wants...

WoW...looks like the QJ-8 has a good strong following!

page 36 shows what i mean...just put the balls in the other holes...

Now a question???

I have a 401 on the tail...and the qj-8 has a very slow creap nose left...if i adjust with trim tab, the creap moves...silly sounding isnt it...

iv recentered...hovered and trimed...landed and reset gyro...but it still persists...although im new, i hover and apply opposit rudder BUT any ideas whats up..

maybe sticking/binding??

thanks,

Are you by any chance flying outside in cold weather after the gyro has been inside in the the warmth? This is a common symptom of that... try letting it sit in the cold for 10-15 mins first and see if the creep is still there.

Nice pics

Heli_J,

I do like the pics.

For the GY401, never use any trim or mix (No sub trim,No revo or anything else) with the GY401. The next time you start it up it uses the "new" centre, leaving you were you started.

MFIS, I have taken my heli from a warm car into 0 degrees Celcius, and there is no drift at all. The temperature compensation of a GY401 is almost perfect.

Begin with a gain in HH of some 60% and the same for normal mode.
Start up in HH. dont touch the heli. Go to normal mode and hover it against the wind. With youre trim try to get a staedy hover. Land the heli, but KEEP IT IN NORMAL MODE AND DON'T TURN IT OF.
Now fold the tail blades to eachother and measure the ofset of them.

Put the trim back in centre and turn of and on (on always in HH)the gyro. Put it in NM.

You will see a difference in the ofset of the tailblades.

Mechanically ajust the linkage till you have the same ofset.
Fly again and the tail should stay still.

Doeing it this way, you should be able to switch between HH and NM without the tail react. If not, the gyro is faulty.

MRS,

You are a wealth of good tips! I set my gyros up essentially the same way but never thought of using the exact same method you suggest which is actually quite clever and easy. Good info!

Tail/Main blade clearance

Anni,

You remember the 420mm clearance on your heli being 14mm short?

mine is from tail shaft to rotor shaft 550mm
Tail radius 91mm, main shaft to blade bold 46mm.
main blade room: 413 mm this is almost 420mm!

The thing is, the tail boom is almost aligned with the front boom brace.

I go to the indoor flying after all, so you can see.
Apearantly the tooth belt is longer, or you have still the normal tail pinion.

thnaks mrs...ill try exactlicy what you said...makes perfec sense...

But, always a but isnt there....my second 401 on trex, just works...no creaping...maybe the torque/lower headspeed effects the gyro more on qj-8....

ill try today and post the results...

MFIS: no thermal changes...in garage stored and flying (well hovering" but thanks for the input!!!!!!!!!!!

MRS: glad you liked the pics...i enjoy photography and detailed shots...especially the close up / details...not basd for a old 3mp camera!

On It's Way!!!

I just got of the phone with Harold of Helicopter Hobbies and my kit is on its way!!! I'm happier than a... lol Gotta keep it G rated. Anyway, I just wanted to share and I look forward to becoming one of the family. Harold said I'm now the 3rd Marine to fly one of his helis and I plan on doing so the Marine Corps way: Like I stole it! I can't fly worth a d@mn right now but between the sim and the QJ8's stability, I hope to be sport flying by summer. Anyway, take care and happy flying.

Respectfully,
Ken

Gotta add me to the list now. Still building the kit. Man I wish the manual was like the Logo 10. I'm not the greatest builder but I can always get the Logo 10 near perfect because of that very clear manual.

All right, Ken! Welcome to the "club". Sorry I haven't made it up there yet. Hopefully next week but I've been saying that for awhile! If you have any questions about the build, give me a call. If you can't find my number, email me at ka3muf @ charter . net. (remove the spaces)

yep, I got one too

but mine'll take a while before it gets airborne - right now I'm unemployed, so "me no money" if you know what I mean!!

it's a great looking little heli - some don't like the canopy design but I reckon it looks really good... very functional looking in a very Japanese kind of way (the way the VW beetle was very functional looking in a very German kind of way)

I looked over the parts and this looks like one solid little beast

judging by what people have said and by the vids that Anni and others have posted, it seems to fly like a dream too ... (i'm a refugee from e-flight and glo aeroplanes, so I'm new to helis)
