My Posts This: Topic Forum | I know it may not sound like much... but it was been a long term goal of mine to get my Hornet 2 to under the stipulated AUW of 340g.
Here's my setup:
3 x HS-55s (cyclic, )
1 x JR-306 (tail, mounted near the main frame.)
MS-044 HH gyro (decased and shrinked wrapped)
"Airtecnic" 6CH receiver (up to 800m)
MS-116
AXI-25t pinion
Bell-Hiller Mixer
H2 One-way unit.
HX-3D ball-raced tail grips
Viper-3D/ Dragonfly CP22A white Foam blades (I love these!)
3S TP730mAh!
Upgrades:
mH tailcase
Duzi tail mount.
Mods:
1)BH-mixer uses screws. (comes standard for HX-3Ds)
2)Sandwiched plastic rings btw LG and main frame to increase ground clearance.
3)Triple bearinged main grips. HX-3D uses 3 pieces of 2x6x2. I'm using 2x6x2.3 because I cant get the thinner ones.I had to grind the top of each grip bolt. Using 12mm bolts.
4) Increased damping using thicker o-rings, Alu tube section and set collar
5) Changed Antennae multi-core wire to single core.
6) Titanium-Alu Alloy tail drive shaft
7) Stuck 2 pieces of credit/phone card plastic together to form a platform so the Axi could be mounted levelled, instead of tilted (abit).
8) Alu Axi mounting screws.
9) Lock-Nuts for 16mm main blade bolts.
10) No tail boom supports
11) CG balanced using Chao's post.
Overall, I think I added a lot more mass than stock. This sounds like old news.... But a lot of the electronic equipment I used are standard, so it's possible to hit below 340g with a smaller batt pack.
So far, no outdoor tests yet. But indoor tests show the bird to be docile and very predictable.... With the big drop in weight (from 340 ++ to 310) A lot of vibrations are showing at the tail end. Ain't rocket science but this is just as I thought. Weight did mask up a lot of vibes i had in the past. I will try to get pics up soon. This has to be the 6th or 7th makeover without $$ additions.
I'm still considering on switching to HS-50s for cyclics.... Lol... I've spoke to hundreds of people about this issue since last June.... Yet I've not done anything except for getting the 50s.
Other things I'd like to try are
a) try to implement the set-screw collar for the old one-way sleeve system. I've brass piping of the correct OD already.
b) go back to using carbon tail drives. There's a twist .... I'm thinking of using only 2 bearings at extreme ends... use a regular 2mm carbon rod.... but only sand down the ends just enough to fit the bearings and the gears.... That should minimise twisting....
In getting here, I've ruined 1 perfectly okay titanium-Alu shaft, 2 gears, and 2 bearings.... I've no more spare titan-alu drives left..... |
